1:26 - "Although it's unclear what happens to those birds" In the arcade version of the game, it states that Flicky guides them home. So thankfully, no deep-fryers are involved.
I just realised you inserted your own applause in the intro. Credit for recognising the brilliance of this game that is a fun version of Mario Bros. from two years earlier.
Dat gamer's rage. I made it to level 38 of 47. It gets real difficult at the end demanding precision platforming, but with floaty and bouncy controls that just don't support it.
Since this was an arcade game at one point, this game actually never had a real ending to it. You can get to level 100 and then it resets to level 1 all over again.
I originally discovered this game on one of those genesis plug and plays. Flicky was my favorite game, just loved it, so tracked down a nice CIB copy on ebay. It seems to be kinda rare and can cost a bit complete. Worth it though, IMO.
I'd say that there's a lot more in common than just the enemies and the setting. For starters, both games have you collecting a certain amount of items in an allotted amount of time. Second, the stages are similar in the fact that they have multiple levels to them. Add in some enemies that kill you on contact and you have gameplay that's almost completely the same.
Speaking of which, there's a really weird Pseudo-Sequel to this one called Sonic 3D Blast where they basically took this game, made it isometric so that it's even more frustrating to control, and made Sonic the main character trying to rescue Flicky and bring him to the exit ring.
I remember unlocking this game for the Sonic Mega Collection. It's the last game I expected to see. Well. Second to last one. Ristar was the last game I expected to see. I enjoyed Ristar a thousand times more though.
Not just Europe. It was Mega Drive in the whole world except US. SEGA had problems when trying to sell Mega Drive with that name, so they changed to Genesis.
Not exactly. There are a few things in common like avoiding cats and the fact that it takes place in a mansion. That reminded me of Mappy to be honest. Plus Mark mentioned that the original arcade release of Flicky was in 1984, a year after Mappy's release. The gameplay however is different so I don't believe Flicky is a complete ripoff of Mappy
Mark has gotten so ridiculous (in a good way) over the years. Lol 0:25 just sums it all up! It's almost like CGR is it's own kick ass TV show. Eventually he'll have a set to review in front of. Hell, he's already got games, an El Camino and a disco ball.
my my. It appears several dog lovers attacked my comment even though I never said I hated dogs. In fact, I like them, proving my comment to be, in fact, true! Nice work.
I don't know why, considering how many more rockin' games there are for the Genesis, but this has to be one of my favorite Genesis games!

I remember playing this on my gamecube with sonic mega collection!! Good times
I started playing this game today for the first time since I was 2, which I couldn't get past level 3, and now I could reach level 13
I just realised you inserted your own applause in the intro. Credit for recognising the brilliance of this game that is a fun version of Mario Bros. from two years earlier.
I loved this one, simple but addictive
This was one of my favorite games when I was younger. I really have the urge to play it now.
Dat gamer's rage. I made it to level 38 of 47. It gets real difficult at the end demanding precision platforming, but with floaty and bouncy controls that just don't support it.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MARK TO REVIEW THIS GAME NOW FOR 3 YEARS. THANK YOU MARK
i first played this on one of the several sega games collections on the ps2 its always been one of my personal favorites.
I remember playing this game on the old genesis, I was young so beating the game didn't matter just saving the cute little birds.
Since this was an arcade game at one point, this game actually never had a real ending to it. You can get to level 100 and then it resets to level 1 all over again.
Back the day I use to play this game better than today...Thanks Mark for the review! =)
The jumping chirp is so cute!
Flicky is also an "animal friend" from the Sonic games.
Nice, you should review Mappy, it has pesky cats too, bet you'd wanna blow them dow with a flamethrower too.
Bloody Brilliant!, i miss this game so much, i think i had it in one of those cartridges with 5 or 10 games...
I LOVED THIS GAME!
I originally discovered this game on one of those genesis plug and plays. Flicky was my favorite game, just loved it, so tracked down a nice CIB copy on ebay. It seems to be kinda rare and can cost a bit complete. Worth it though, IMO.
I remember this game from the Sega Smash Pack I had on the computer someday :D
Nice job getting all the evil ottos!
great little game. didn't play it back in the day but it came with a 6-in-1 Sega plug & play TV game I got about 7 or 8 yrs ago. pure rage-inducing
Yes... it was previously available for the Japanese SG1000 Mark II equivalent in 1984, along with the arcade game itself.
You deserve more views and subscribers.
whenever i turn on my psp this is the first game i play before deciding what to play
I love this game great and addicting game!
omg i loved this game when i was kid
I loved this game!
We want a tour of the Intergalactic Space Arcade! :D

Used to play this, pretty fun and came on a 7 in 1 tape for MegaDrive
I remember playing this on my first laptop when I bought Sega Smash Pack 1 and 2 for the PC. This was definitely a frustrating game. lol
This is actually a pretty faithful port of the original arcade game.
Recuerdo haber conocido este juego despues de haber jugado el Sonic 3D. Ahi supe de donde vinieron los Flickies
This game will make you cry with its difficulty!
Mark, give us a tour of the space arcade when it is completed! Please!!
My most fav game of childhood flicky😰
Speaking of which, there's a really weird Pseudo-Sequel to this one called Sonic 3D Blast where they basically took this game, made it isometric so that it's even more frustrating to control, and made Sonic the main character trying to rescue Flicky and bring him to the exit ring.
What a fun game...still fun as I die on level three but I am sure it gets insanely tough.
this is an awesome arcade game !
THIS FREAKING GAME
IT'S AMAZING
Flicky From the Sega Channel all the way back in 1994 (Also in Sonic 3d Blast and Treasure's Gunstar Super Heroes on GBA) :D
My name is joe "b" and I just love to watch my bro "b" play flicky!
This is where they got the little flickys from for the sonic games
Also did anyone else get the girl twerking in level 10 if you beat it a certain way?
Oh, God! Twenty Evil Otto's is the ultimate nightmare.
I love you Mark.
Looks fun.
I remember unlocking this game for the Sonic Mega Collection. It's the last game I expected to see. Well. Second to last one. Ristar was the last game I expected to see. I enjoyed Ristar a thousand times more though.
I thought those birds were in danger of being turned into robots.
Ah, ok. It's an Arcade port from the 80's. I was thinking "damn it doesn't look like a 1991 Genesis title."
4 more videos until the 3,000 mark, Mark.
Flicky rules! I played the crap out of this game on the Sega Genesis Collection on 360.
That hat should be a permanent thing!
Yeah, I love this game, but man, this is harder than Streets of Rage 3.
Not just Europe. It was Mega Drive in the whole world except US. SEGA had problems when trying to sell Mega Drive with that name, so they changed to Genesis.
In the arcade, tiger was named "NyanNyan"
Yep. He did a brief review of it here: /watch?v=SZoUsYQbwZ8
It was supposed to have a part 2 but he never got around to it.
I freaking love this game! I just hate it when I'm right at the exit, a cat comes and knocks away one of the babies >_
All Hail the Al Camino!
It was an old arcade game from the early 80s
Where does Mark get all the money for all that cool stuff? He must be from Heaven!
Not exactly. There are a few things in common like avoiding cats and the fact that it takes place in a mansion. That reminded me of Mappy to be honest. Plus Mark mentioned that the original arcade release of Flicky was in 1984, a year after Mappy's release. The gameplay however is different so I don't believe Flicky is a complete ripoff of Mappy
cool review...never heard of it...chciking it out on mame
flicky 2 for the vectrex needs a kickstarter
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
yes!
yes, he does
It's hard to believe that this is the single most punishing game on the console.
The birds get turned into Peeps.
You can't get past level 10? I'm ecstatic if I make it to level 4.
I like how the reviews are starting to sound more and more cheesy like an old game magazine or cheat booklet from the 80s or 90s
Md and my brother compete at this game. We've played it a lot so we got pretty good
That's because dog owners have to take responsibility for their pets while cat owners just let them outside unsupervised to annoy everybody.
At first glance the name Flicky looked like Fucky in that opening font.
Am I the only one that hears a bit of the Indiana Jones theme in Flicky's background music?
Finally!
Like your reviews. Would like to see you get more frustrated than the acting. Dont hide the rage, its a gamers thing!
ALL HAIL THE EL CAMINO!
Mark has gotten so ridiculous (in a good way) over the years. Lol 0:25 just sums it all up! It's almost like CGR is it's own kick ass TV show. Eventually he'll have a set to review in front of. Hell, he's already got games, an El Camino and a disco ball.
reminds me of that level from Gunstar Super Heroes
For some reason this reminds me of Mappy.
Awesome game
This games alright but I favour Pengo or Penguin Land for my Sega bird related platform/puzzling.
You should have mentioned the secret picture!
Trust me I test it on few friends, one of my mates who got platinum on skyrim couldn't even do alien soldier on sega mega drive
Did he just referenced Birdemic? I'm sorry you saw it too, Mark
Is Mark's solution to everything a flamethrower? XD
ALL GLORY TO THE EL CAMINO
I am playing this on Sonics Ultimate Collection on my 360
All hail the El Camino ?... so that means .... he is .... Lord Karnage ?
Man how can upload a review everyday ? What do u do for. Living? Anyway this is a great game ! Tks
Was this originally a Master System game that got ported to the Genesis? Because it sure looks like one.
He's a filmmaker.
my my. It appears several dog lovers attacked my comment even though I never said I hated dogs. In fact, I like them, proving my comment to be, in fact, true! Nice work.
Level ten >_< I hate you!
thank you for the review Mark! (and for being stuck at level ten too)
Sonic 3D Blast's gameplay is pretty much this
i read "FUCKY" in the title lol
FLICKY!
I love this game. You can read more about it on my blog "flicky1984" on Tumblr.
