  • As morticians we get asked about the condition of crime victims bodies...
    "Are they viewable?"
"How would we handle this case?"
"What would the body look like?"
Kari the Mortician and Ryan & Brian from Undertaking the Podcast will answer those questions and many more. Each episode three embalmers/morticians will talk about criminal cases of murder and unexplained deaths and how they would handle the deceased victims from those cases.
In this first episode, Kari, Ryan & Brian will discuss the case of the Watts Family murders. This story made International News because of its senseless brutality. Many people have looked at the criminal aspect of the case and the murderer himself, but we will discuss caring for the victims and the sad task that laid before the funeral directors who cared for the victims.
Warning things may be discussed that are disturbing to some people.
If you have a case you would like us to cover please comment below! Please excuse the choppy video. Even with four uploads it just won't play right :( Maybe

I take my hat off to you for being able to do what you do. Funeral directors get a bad rap. I think initially many of thought all funeral directors were money grabbing monsters and "making money off of everyone's grief". Now I realize this isn't the case for all of them. Your job has to be one of the most difficult in the world. I wish it wasn't against the law to come in with a funeral director and observe what is done and how. I think it would give people a much needed perspective on how difficult your job is.

Patricia, agreed. With apologies to passable dirt bags everywhere, the father of the family (like Kari, I can't speak his name) doesn't rise the level of a dirt bag. It's really impossible to fathom this heinous crime. And the motive? Don't get me started.
We have to respect that Colorado doesn't have or doesn't want to use capital punishment, but it's better to have and seldom use, than to need and not have. Just ask Wisconsin. The fellow inmates in Jeffrey Dahmer's prison had more sense than the laws and judicial system of Wisconsin. They didn't want him around so they solved the problem themselves. We'll see what happens in this case.

The funeral home even called several weeks later to offer free counseling services for one of my children who was experiencing heightened grief. In other words, they didn't see my father's death as a profit margin. They actually cared about the entire family and that meant the world to me. Same here, Marian. This case struck me so hard - it was so evil! I became very invested in it.. I've watched all of the interviews and police first response and subsequent search and investigation videos, the media interviews of Chris "appealing" for information about his family and the neighbour showing his security video, all his confession and court videos - and NK' s interviews. Plus I've read the full discovery and all of the books written so far, and listened to all of the recordings of his telephone conversations. Anything that's related to the case, I've covered it all. And I STILL can't wrap my head around it. Now CW claims he's found Christ in prison... Poppycock! Utter poppycock. He actually thinks he's going to get out of prison one day! He belongs in hell.

Re Lacys pregnancy, Conner wasn't a coffin birth, nor did her baby pass vaginally, her cervix hadn't opened. Conner was able to leave her body due to lacys other organs being passed. So once her lungs, liver & heart left her body, he eventually passed too, until then her uterus protected him.

I looked it up. The girls couldn’t be cremated, because, as frank ruzcek said “they would have blown up a building”. They had to be put in a large coffin wrapped in special material to fly. Also, the family members never got to see them before burial. Very sad.

According to the mortician statement to Shannan's parents, the two girls could not be laid in same coffin .... friction of two crude oil soaked bodies a hazard of flame and explosion. That is why they were buried in large coffins due to their angelic remains being placed into sealed biohazard flame proof containers then placed into adult size coffins. May they all four rest in peace. God bless the Ruesak family. I am glad they buried all of them as Ruezaks and not watts.

My Uncle was a hitchhiker in the 1980's. He had his disability check come to my mother's address as his permanent address. He was living in Chicago at this time. He always hitch hiked his way down the end of the month to take care of his business and see us. He Didn't come the end of January. As we all know Chicago to St Louis can be a pretty brutal month to be traveling because of weather. Evidently he was under a viduct and had managed to make a can of soup and he had a daily newspaper. Some gentleman happened on him about a month later when he had a flat tire. I can only imagine how shaken he was. Anyway this is a long story so I will cut to the chase. Someone had to claim the body. Everyone was freaking out except me (ex -military medical specialist Vietnam era) I go I will go. I remember driving up to this hospital that was holding him in the Morgue. It was all very clinical and to the point. The Administrator of the hospital was there (and this was Midnight) She took me to the morgue. They pulled him out to view and he was in a body bag. They unzipped his head to his shoulders. They told me he had ice on him so they had to slowly raise the temp they were holding him in to bring his temp up slowly of his body. The Administrator said "are you sure this is your Uncle"? I said yes. I mean he had not been shaved for a month but other than that and the ice on him I could see through it all and tell it was my Uncle. She handed me a clipboard of I have no idea now but a ton of paperwork that had to remain in Illinois then have the body transferred to Missouri state line, Then again have paperwork to transfer from State of Missouri line to the Funeral Home I had set up to take him.
As I was doing all this paperwork she made me view him 2 more times and make SURE he was my uncle. I finally got tired of her crap and told her I knew what death is and had seen more than she ever would because I was in the F------ Army as a Field Medic during Vietnam era. I also informed her if she handed me a razor and shave cream that would be the deciding factor. That was her cue to leave me to all the paperwork! The funeral home had me make 2 different funerals one to be able to view him and one where we could not view him. Whats the difference? They told me either the casket could be open or they would have the casket sealed meaning the screws they put in would tighten everything down so no one could open the lid. All I can say is for being my first funeral to do for my family it was a Rodeo. It only set me up for more unbelievable deaths to come. This is NOT everything I went through with my Uncle's funeral. For all I dealt with the Funeral home said I was a remarkable person for how I dealt with everything. If anyone wants more into this (Morticians) just leave a message and I will get in touch with you. Last year I got to deal with my oldest son commiting suicide on Meth and Cocaine. So I guess funerals are not the norm for me.

@@KaritheMortician Most welcome. The newspaper was the deciding factor of how long he had been there. Love your bits of odd humor. If I had not had some of the same for all I have seen of death, I would be in the loony bin by now LOL
