    Back in Europe after an amazing first Boston experience. Absolutely unforgettable life experience. And despite the brutal conditions, I somehow almost managed a PR!
    But I mainly wanted to say how invaluable this video was for me as a newbie. Particularly useful was that tip about entering the Expo through the Prudential Center. You were right, absolutely straight in with no queuing!
    Thanks so much for this, big fan of your channel!

      Wowee! A PR on the day we had, that is really something incredible! I am sure you will treasure that and your entire trip for years to come. Keep on celebrating and thanks for the kind words!

    Very informative for a first timer. I had previously watched an older video. It would have been nice if it included logistics for those staying by the start & not taking a bus from the start. Also useful would be some info on how family might travel the course to see a runner along the way.

    • @coachkrisrs

      Those are both great suggestions! I appreciate that. I do have some tips on those topics if you have questions, I can answer. The spectator thing could probably be its own video. It can get pretty complicated depending on how many times they want to see the runner and how fast the runner runs. But it's certainly of interest to many!

      @@coachkrisrs I do have questions. I was thinking have my family drop me off at the drop off (52 South St) around 10. I’m wave 2. Then go to Framingham station. Once I’m passed there they would ride the train to the finish. Then we would all ride the train back to Framingham. Is that feasible?

    • @coachkrisrs

      @@jeremyday6864 overall it's a good plan except for the time you will get dropped off. You need to budget a lot more for that. There is a 15 minute bus ride from the South St drop off and you can expect a wait with traffic and congestion on the way. I would plan to be dropped off much earlier, like 9am. It sounds like a lot but keep in mind there are going to be hundreds all doing the same. The streets/parking lot in Hopkinton are quite small/tight. Plus you'll have secure checkpoints. Better to not be panicked and miss your start.
      Also for your family, make sure they get on the train into Boston the second you pass. These also can get backed up due to congestion. The timing will work but just don't linger.

    • @jeremyday6864

      @@coachkrisrs Thanks! Sorry, I have one more question. It looks like I won’t be able to use the gear check. And B.A.A. says on their website spectators can’t have any bags. Can my family carry my gear check bag? I just want to gave some sandals and maybe a hoodie post-race. The carbon plates really do a number on my feet. Or can another runner drop my gear check bag?

    • @coachkrisrs

      @@jeremyday6864 the area right around the finish is a secure area so your family wouldn't be able to carry a large bag there. However you can meet them anywhere else outside that and they can have your bag. I actually recommend meeting family/friends somewhere outside security since it is so much easier. If you look at the map we included at the end we give a few suggestions for spots. There would be a few blocks walk but you can exit North, West or East.
      The other option would be to have someone else check your bag on race morning. You'd have to give it to them prior to Patriot's Day. But that would also work.

    These videos are hugely helpful, thank you! How much time should we expect to lose in the first mile because of congestion? I've heard people say between 30s to 1.5 minutes. Does that sound right? (I'm in wave 3.) One other question, I'm a bit claustrophobic. Would it be possible for me to line up on the end of a row so I have people on three sides of me instead of 4? Thanks very much.

    • @coachkrisrs

      You won't necessarily lose any time due to congestion - but that depends on what pace you are aiming for and where you are seeded. The majority of the people around you are going to be running at the seeded corral pace. If you are trying to run a big PR (by several minutes) or your BQ time was a "bad race" and you are trying to go much faster than those around you, then you could get boxed in. However it really depends.
      The corrals are generally seeded quite well! Better than most races since everyone needs proof of a time to be there.

    • @coachkrisrs

      Regarding lining up to the side, you certainly can do that! It will give you a little room. Only note of caution is that folks who are purposely running slower will seek out the far sides. So that might be an occasion where you have to slide around them from time to time. Good thing is when someone is intentionally much slower that isn't typically too hard a maneuver.

    • @ethers

      @@coachkrisrsthanks so much. My BQ was indicative of my abilities and about where I am at now due to a hiccup with injury/training so I don't expect a huge PR. I'm in wave 3/corral 4. That's reassuring about proof of time and good seeding. Wishing you a great race. Thanks again!

    • @ethers

      @@coachkrisrsGreat to hear. This makes me feel better. I don't mind sliding around a slower person or two if needed. Here we go!

    • @coachkrisrs

      @@ethers wave 3/corral 4 will be between 3:32-3:37 with the corrals just before that and just after being a few minutes off that range plus or minus. I think you'll be in a good spot without much slowing and if you keep to the side you'll be able to get around fine. Enjoy!

    Where do the busses that take you back to Hopkinton after the run line up?

    • @coachkrisrs

      They will be lined up on Columbus between Clarendon and Cahners. I’ll link to the Google map location here:
