I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Personally I'm a mutant and I'm so used to the temperature that I refuse to wear pants unless it's -15c. I have a number of friends who have moved here from other places, I just give them advice on the winter's 1.Layers, always layers. Sometimes the planet Mars is warmer than the prairies 2.Long Johns, sound weird, but are life savers 3. Toques, your ears can freeze in a minute or less if you are not careful 4.Driving, we use cat litter in our cars. Sounds strange right? It adds weight, and if you can stuck you can open it, dump some at your tires, and it will give you grip

Im a Canadian and we definitely gave up on style, I think it started in the 90's when grunge was huge, now its all about comfort. I think Canada and the US are the lowest on the totem pole when it comes to dressing up on the daily, but like you said our stores are super expensive and the clothing stores are crap with fast fashion, so we make do with what we can afford and like wearging, style comes as an afterthought. And definitely the weather plays a huge role. But I have to say, my ex is Middle Eastern and he used to wear the tackiest outfits, fake name brands and tight pants (not fitted/custom) that looked cheap in my opinion, he said he had style and that I was more of a hippy, lol.

For the delayed health care I recommend getting a family doctor. You make an appointment and the only waiting you do is for your name to be called mostly because I'd you come early and the person before is either not there or canceled you can go in earlier
well for the education I won't blame them for being an engineer what I learned in Nigeria esp for civil can not really be applicable here bcos of so many factors. most of our courses in Nigeria are becoming obsolete or has been faced out. i can go on and on. thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!

Wanna wait tables? smart serve certification. wanna work in a restaurant? food handlers certification. security? Certification. Truck driver? Certification. PSW? Certification. So, things that may apply to Ontario may not apply to BC, or New Brunswick or Alberta or Quebec. In Quebec, New Brunswick and Alberta people are very friendly and outgoing, in Quebec people are fashionable.
You complain about long wait time when it comes to health care🤨 That's because unlike Nigeria, every body gets the same Health care despite your status. In Nigeria only the rich have access to the doctor whenever they need one. I think I prefer health care for all no matter the wait time.

I like this video. I pay taxes in my country and don't get any government benefits because I'm not 'poor'. Example: I pay education tax, but my child will never be eligible to go to school and get free lunch or monthly stipend to go back to school. If I go to the public hospital they will use my private insurance, nevermind healthcare is free. Everything boils down to your status here....AKA your salary. So at least in Canada you pay taxes and get something back for it. Very informative though. Thanks.
It depends on the people you’re dealing with lol. Canadians dress really good, in fact they’ve got way better dress sense than Nigerians. I guess you’re probably dealing with teens and the much younger generation who wear pyjamas to the mall and don’t bother cleaning their shoes lol. Sure, you have to go through the initial stress, and I honestly think that’s fair, but once you get your first job it’s easy to get subsequent job. My own recommendation is always to be ready to unlearn and relearn. Some "normal" traits we learned from Nigeria needs to be dropped immediately and embracing a new way of life as well. 90% of these things aren't unique to Canada though, lol. Except there's a dress code, I don't think anyone cares how you look or dress abroad and Canadians are way more welcoming than other places. Taxes are crazy, but financing the social infrastructure like healthcare and education that has brought immigrants like you and I here costs money, it's not free. The housing point is spot on, getting a place to live in most Canadian big cities is really a hassle.
The Taxes are soooo worth it. If the govt in Naija utilized the taxes paid for social infrastructure, I'm sure people won't grumble paying them. Thank you for your comment.

90% of these things aren't unique to Canada though, lol. Except there's a dress code, I don't think anyone cares how you look or dress abroad and Canadians are way more welcoming than other places. Taxes are crazy, but financing the social infrastructure like healthcare and education that has brought immigrants like you and I here costs money, it's not free. The housing point is spot on, getting a place to live in most Canadian big cities is really a hassle.
The Taxes are soooo worth it. If the govt in Naija utilized the taxes paid for social infrastructure, I'm sure people won't grumble paying them. Thank you for your comment.
