What an amazing way to close out to an awesome career with the Blue Devils. You are an incredible performer and it was SO much fun to watch you perform on a day to day basis for the past three years. You are also the example of what a Blue Devil is all about. I know being a section leader brings a whole new level of expectation and isn't always the most enjoyable. Truly, you are not only the anchor of the line, but the entire drum corps. And that can bring a lot of added pressure. Your lines seemed to want to perform and really follow your example of hard work and excellence. Congratulations and well done. 💙
Having marched in the '60s, I'm delighted with the technology and advancement of today's drumline! Even utilizing a GoPro to help capture the event. Enjoy this very much!
Sean you are a huge inspiration on me. Because of you I decided to go into percussion as a brass player and make the drumline as an eighth grader. You have been a huge inspiration since I found this video. Thank you. Also you are one hell of a drummer.
The first sticks they were using were practice sticks with rubber tips. Supposedly, they used them in the intro to give the snares more of an old school sound, then they switched to regular sticks.
not saying they are bad, but woah. some of the doubles in the beginnings sounded so much better than others because they were sooo in sync. (im complimenting on certain sections saying they stand out)
Marcle DCI groups and most marching bands for that matter use the word “dut” and other words sometimes at random to keep tempo. It also makes them look badass when doing cool dut splits
chase2208 you're right, the front ensemble isnt percussion and doesn't play incredibly fast and challenging runs leveling the difficulty of the hornline because cleaning five marimbas on those runs isn't hard or anything.
I’m not going to be salty person or anything but you need to give props to front ensemble that put in so much work. Also watch the xylophone/glockenspiel cam he plays fast.
Because, hear me out, the whole show isn’t about drums. While the drums may not be playing anything, the brass and front ensemble are playing batshit crazy parts. It’s their moment, there’s no reason to try to take attention from it with drum parts. Drum parts do not make every section better, especially when other instruments are having their moment
Jfc you're literally playing on the very edge of that head during the ballad #DYNAMICS #ARTICULATION #TECHNIQUE Is anyone worthy of filling up your spot for next year ? 🤔
This was two years ago, but the first commenter was right, different sticks make different sounds depending on the types of wood, and the shape of the tips, as well as the general dimensions of the stick👍
The0nlyAngelica I would recommend looking up tutorial videos on TH-cam and practice. Yes the beginning of the season marching band instructor(s) teach you some basics but background knowledge is always a very good thing to have :). Also, unless you already have the materials, I would recommend getting sticks and a practice pad. If you can’t get these things right now it’s ok because the magical thing about percussion is that u can just practice by hitting your hands on ur leg or a pillow. Also on TH-cam there are many good sources and instructors who teach how to read music that have helped me a ton in the past :)
Zoe Huffman legit thank you so much! I’ve been looking at these types of vids looking for someone to respond with something actually helpful , thanks so much I’m ordering a practice pad and sticks and have been doing some follow alongs and the R L thingys and warmups and stuff. Thanks so much omg you don’t know how happy I am rn tbh I rlly appreciate it ;D🖤🖤
Hey Sean you know the best part about these YT comment warriors complaining about your dutting................you are a DCI World Champion and there is nothing they can do about it. Keep pissing them off Sean!
I think its because the book was also centered around brass and front onsomble so it might have a little to do with it becase if they changed it too make it more complex it might have made it sound different that and the fact that they make several changes throught the season.but bassically its more based on how it would sound all together rather than complexity although they do make up for it with all that movment.
Who would win: sean clarke vs metronome?
Who would win: a genius piece of technology that is a musicians best friends that never lies, or....

The first sticks they were using were practice sticks with rubber tips. Supposedly, they used them in the intro to give the snares more of an old school sound, then they switched to regular sticks.

What's the sticking for that part of the ballad where you guys lean backwards
What sticks did you guys use this season? I've seen some people say DC50 and others saying DC17.
DC17's
Why does the entire flight of the bumblebee have absolutely no percussion in it besides some quads? I could hear so much being done with that..
chase2208 you're right, the front ensemble isnt percussion and doesn't play incredibly fast and challenging runs leveling the difficulty of the hornline because cleaning five marimbas on those runs isn't hard or anything.

To have different sound textures to either stand out for a feature/blend with the rest of the corps I think
