I wish Daihatsu would make a comeback in the US. Especially since kei cars and vans seem to be rising in popularity in the states right now. They make so many cool little vehicles like the Atrai and the Mira Tocot. They would make perfect city cars or mini camper vans.
I had a 1993 Daihatsu Charade, and I drove it for years. I towed a tiny camper with it coast to coast along the I-10 corridor, Jacksonville FL to Malibu CA. I pulled a small boat back and forth from FL to OH numerous times. It actually had more horsepower than my current 2013 Chevy Spark. I loved that little car.
I wish we got the Copen. I've got a 1997 Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R4 that I imported this year, Daihatsu makes some quirky vehicles! If you're ever in the Rochester NY area you'll have to check it out.
I hazard a guess that placing side mirrors further forward eliminates the blindspot that we get with conventional mirrors, which in turn are designed for seeing incoming high speed traffic. In urban areas of Japan, where traffic moves slower, doesn't necessitate as much the view of incoming traffic as it does the immediate area around the car.
It'd be super cool if Daihatsu could import you one of these new kei vans in the US as a camera van. 😀 It would get a lot of attention so it's great for marketing as well. 😀
the orginal copen used to be sold in europe, people called it the barbie car. Daihatsu is owned by toyota now also they made the engine for the first generations of the toyota yaris. Also they had a turbo charged 993cc engine who produced 105 bhp back in the eighties thats still good numbers by todays standards.
We had the 660cc & 1300cc not the 1000cc , on Autotrader in the UK at least 30 for sale today & for some reason the UK 660cc has 69bhp not 64bhp. The reason I know so much we have 1.
Neat convertible. Bubbly. Looks like it'd match up against the NC pretty well. Kei trucks and vans seem like the no frills vehicles that people keep asking for (Suzuki carrys and the like). Shame only a handful are cleared for and capable of highway speeds. Those low load beds would make a great hunting rig. And they aren't lacking payload.
I wish Americans had very different tastes in vehicles so we actually could have kei cars in the U.S. Americans need more affordable, thrifty cars. Not these gas-guzzling behemoths to commute alone in with 84 month loans. It's gotten ridiculous.
Wish Daihatsu came back to The Netherlands.. currently it's all about how big can my SUV be and all of those SUV's are really ugly and they look the same.. I drive my Daihatusu Copen 1.3 which makes a Fiat Panda look like a SUV but it is so much fun to ride.. I prefer this car over any SUV..
That one is electric and RWD Copen. Current gas FWD is too old. They invest in electric to bypass Kei class engine size limit, and also use it as low volume test bed to develop the technology.
With the new Mazda and now with that Daihatsu Copen one can tell that the styling of the new Japanese cars is already superior to the German offerings which are ugly and fora the lack of a better word, unfinished.
A car the size of a Daihatsu Copen with a 1,000 cc supersport engine...hooo boy. I can accept the electric future if the 2040 Porsche 911 was a 1,300 cc flat six gocart.
@@ulverop Your first intuition is probably right - you might be alone on this. Not that big a deal. It'd be super inauthentic if he called him by name.

Great video guys really appreciate it. hope for more JMS video soon 👌
I hope daihatsu would remake a modernized version of 90s daihatsu rocky/feroza, like what suzuki did with the jimny, modern but still retro looking

Back in the day, I thought I saw a copen, but it was just a charade...
I like the smaller Copen more. It looks so cute and cool.
Roman and Tommy, I think we are coping quite well without the Copen but a new Daihatsu Rocky sized SUV would do well here. 😉🤣
The little white car at the very end it’s not a 1.3 L it’s a 7.2 L V10 turbo with 520hp!
I rented a coopen in Greece and it was amazing for what it is
You guys have to eat at Ichiran Ramen!
From a distance those spokes look really good. I can see what he is saying about up close though
🔥🔥🔥 GREAT SHOW COVERAGE, LOL THE ENDING..TOMMY YOUR ADORABLE LOL

Japan is full of amazing stuff

Looks like the roots of MG Midget
Miata’s still the answer
The only way you could get excited about an mx5, is if you had never seen a car before.try a caterham R500.
Where's Kirk?
…and David
…and Motormouth
…and Alex on Autos
…etc.
Everyone is in Japan.😂
The 2002 Copan looks like an Audi TT or an Lexus SC 430.
Is it RWD?

Fun video
Daihatsu is considered the "Yugo" of Japan.
Copen looks like an Audi TT

The 911 is getting bigger and heavier in every generation so i'd highly doubt it
@@Nickoboss29 of course. And more is the pity.

Nope nd2 is still always the answer .. soon to be nd3
Too much Audi TT and Mini vibes...
I might be alone in thinking this, but to me it makes it seem a bit unprofessional with Tommy saying "dad" all the time...
No,because it’s his dad.
