    We use that kind of phrasing a lot in Spanish, it is called "pretérito perfecto" (perfect tense). I've never realized it was mixing future actions with present verbs until now that I hear you explain it in English!

    • @marinopayan7338

    Another example of past to talk about future is something like "If John came to the party, he would have a good time." The party here is in the future. Past tense is used because we don't think he will come.

    These things are all about the playing the game from 0 to 1 conditionals and vise versa. What is remarkable is the present perfect softly comply with both grammar rules. It is hard to learn separately each tense, because some tenses are secondary, but in groups it becomes much easier. It is a specific of the way how do the British perceive the time.

    Some linguists distinguish between time references and verb tense. So speakers can use adverbs to make verb phrases refer to future events eg. "After I have finished my lunch..." but the verb "have" is still present tense (perfect aspect). Some argue English has no future tense as other ways are used to refer to the future. "Will", for example, as a modal, is not a tensed verb.

      @@ynnad2702 It's present perfect. Present TENSE with perfect aspect. Your example sentence means that [Now] you have taught English... It's seen from the present moment. Tense is not the same as time. Present TENSE is not identical to present TIME.
