Wow! That took such a long time! I hope the firmware is worth it. I think I 'll wait a week before installing just in case the new firmware introduces any bugs

What's actually missing, and for the FX3 as well, is variable shutter. Flickering lights are a big issue for me on a lot of productions (the FX30 has it)
I’d love to see the ability to import custom LUT, too!
I have an important question. Before the new update, when I changed the AF from the lens to the MF ( mode in the video mode ), "PEAK" appeared with the red color that I had previously determined, and again when I changed the focus from the lens to the AF mode, "PEAK" was turned off . But after the update, when I turn on "PEAK" and put the lens in automatic mode, "PEAK" remains and Don't be off . where is the problem from ?

Option for shutter to stay closed when the cam is off too. If this update included lut imports that would have been awesome, but the update is better than I expected so I’m happy.
Could you try can you turn the eye focus on and off during the recording? It is possible with the A7iv.
Thanks for the comprehensive video! It's a good update, but think there are 2 items still missing (1) there is still no animal eye autofocus (it was always in the menu, but didn't work) in video which the FX models have, and (2) they should really add shutter angle for their video-first cameras like the A7S3, FX3, and FX30
have u figure out how to add the a7siii to creators app... need that badly its still not listed in creators app
Nice update, you think A7SIII or s5II, if buying new for interviews, work content creation and personal? Can afford both.
I just updated mine, but I think there's no option for import LUT to the camera. I wish sony would include it in this firmware update. but the touch capability is really nice.
It would have been great if they mirrored the FX3, I agree - considering both cameras have the same internals. I'm a lot more happy with this update over the last one they released which was almost laughable. :)
What about third party battery. Can we have dispplay of battery level with non Sony battery ?
Finally! It took such a loooong time! What about the Lut feature? Will they add that in the NEAR future? Not in 4 more years
Fingers crossed! Yeah it took way too long. I nearly gave up hope they’d be supporting this camera anymore.
Bro we should file a petition online so Sony is forced to give us custom luts update. And creators like you should raise the voice. Everyone is talking about custom luts in every video comment section.
I don't think I'll be updating anytime soon. Focus breathing has never remotely been an issue for me and I actually prefer the old menu style... although I'm still getting used to the new one on my a6700.
Eye's tracking is not working as well as the prevuious
firmware.

I’m a little late commenting on this video but I had a quick question. In the new update are you able to use the touch focus with clear image zoom now? Like the Zv-e1 thank you and great video!
The A7SIII never had clear image zoom, it started with the FX3 and FX30 to my knowledge. There's no rocker control on this one.
They downgraded my a7 SIII in some ways. After the update I can’t clear all distractions from my screen while shooting, and my autofocus somehow seems worse. I no longer have any indicator of compression (XAVC-S vs XAVC-HS) on my screen while shooting either. I’m really disappointed that they decided to take away certain features that I liked. I’m all for focus breathing comp and timecode, but it feels like this update wasn’t worth it with how much I lost.
Wow, I didn't remember you had the A7s3! Some of these new features are super excellent and makes the camera take a big step forward! I have the E1 and I am tired of trying to explain to people why I like the camera so much when they think I should just poo-poo it and just won't give it any consideration. These features mostly are in the E1, but the BIG one I was looking for to come to the A7s3 (and the FX3 too) is the dynamic active stabilization. I'm glad the camera you have got upgraded, makes me happy to hear that. The dynamic level of stabilization will probably come in the Mark II version, it may be a hardware thing. I kept it and held out hope it would finally be updated. I had to install DCI-4K separately which was interesting, but it's a decent update. Your A7SIII videos were one of the reasons why I went for it mate! That dynamic stabe looks great as well.
E1 has caveats, like no HDMI output and no dual SD at XC ii, that preclude it from being a serious video camera.
sorry, it is just me or the icon of steady shot on the display has disappeared after with the new firmware🤦♂
hello Geeky I love your content. You are good at describing complex things in a way so that everyone can understand. Geeky I may need your help with one minor things regarding this update. I have the new firmware on my Sony A7s3 and have some issues with Auto focus with Face and Eye detection when set for Human subject. The issue is this: focus works fine when my head is horizontal but if I stay with my head upside down the camera fails to focus on my eyes. This did not happen with previous firmware version (2.10 I know not quite previous but that was last before updating to 2.15 and 3.0. Please let me know if you experience this kind of issue also. Maybe somehow is a problem. Happens with both lenses that I have GM2 24-70 & GM2 16-35mm. Kind regards and thank you so much in advance.
I am unable to test this as I just sold the camera to help fund some travel coming up. Does it lose you if you hold the camera vertically or just when you tilt your head?
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Hey, when I set the camera horizontal on a trypod and I stay on bed with my head looking at the camera the focus finds my eyes and all is good, once I move upside down with the head the camera does not recognise my eyes or face anymore and focuses on the closest object. Imageni I move my hand towards the camera but the face end eyes are still visible to camera, instead of getting focus on eyes it will move the focus to my hands... so my eyes are blury and hands infocus. This happens only if I have my head upside down... if I stay normal works as expected.... focuses on eyes and my hands remain blury ... F2.8 with GM2 16-35mm or F2.8 with GM2 24-70mm same issues.

If I do not like the result of update and I run Camera Settings Reset will I get the firmware I had before I ran Firmware Update?
No, I don't think so. Just keep it as is, if it's fine for you.
My AF-C doesn’t work in the memory recall dial modes since the firmware update. Does your AF-C work with using the memory recall dial modes? Thank you.
Yes it's working here, I just checked it as it was not something I looked for before. Maybe try save a new preset and see if it fixes it.
Thank you, I appreciate you testing it out. I did find others having this same problem and they said reset back to factory settings fixed it for them.
Good evening , I updated my Sony A1 to firmware 2.0 and it gave me a lot of problems. I just updated to the new version 2.1 and the problems are still the same. Do you have a solution? One of the main ones is that I don't have a connection to the mobile and I can't use anything from creators. Thank you.
Ah that sucks, sorry to hear that. Try resetting the camera and wiping the phone app and see if it works. Is the error on the camera or phone? I am wondering if the wireless settings are off by default after the update?

Swipe right or just hit the trash icon on the camera.
Thx. What about animal eye AF - is it still not working in video mode? I could see it was showing as switched on at 3:00?
It appears to be an option in the menu in video mode, but I can't see it find an eye. I only tested it on a photo of a dog and it didn't do anything.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thx - have you tested it with the new firmware? It works in photo-mode with fw 2.10 I believe. But not in videomode - which is odd....
Did you have to do anything extra to get DCI4K/24/48? I cannot find those settings after updating
You have to log in to the Creators Cloud web page and input your camera serial number to register the license. I'm still updating the firmware, but will do that next.
Yep, something this video totally failed to mention. It's fiddly... you need to activate the licence in the app.

So they let you set a custom white balance of a white card while using a memory recall setting or is that too much to ask???
Sadly, that's still the case.
There is one thing they have added that annoy me... you can't have focus peaking only in manual focus mode. You either turn it on or off. on the old firmware you had it on just in manual focus mode, this will take some time to get used to 🙈
You can turn it on for AF I have it on the entire time.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Yeah I know you can turn it on and off, but not like in video mode where it is always on in manual focus and when you switch to autofocus it turns off. this is new with the new update. Only on and off in video mode

Hi sir, I hope you're doing well. I need your help. My A7SIII suddenly stopped working while I was using it, and the red light is blinking. Even when I turn the camera off, it persists. Can you please help me identify what might be causing this issue? Thanks.
I have no idea, usually the lights indicate some sort of fault. Check/Google the user manual and look under the troubleshooting options. Leave it on, take battery out, turn it off, and try it again from there.
Can you customize the shooting icons that appear when you side swipe?
No you can not. Kind of ridiculous just like no lut support

On their website I'm seeing and now it's listed as compatible with the Monitor & Control App. Has anyone tested it already and is it connecting?

I tested it with the creator's app and had no issues here.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy I think that's something everyone else missed. The M&C app is a much bigger deal for Video. It has scopes, false color and all that good stuff for video that usually comes on an external monitor.
Hello, did you lose your camera settings after update ?
It clearly states in the update instructions that the settings on the camera will be reset to default after updating.
I updated to 3.00, but the breathing compensation option isn't there in the menu? does it only become available if the lens supports it
yep
It works with most Sony lenses and not with all lenses. I put a link to the firmware update that has a link you can click for supported cameras. It's un the menu, I showed it on screen.
For me the DCI option is not there

So excited to finally have the firmware. I did notice a lot of disappointment and frustration online, but guys, let’s look at the positive things this brought to our beloved workhorse!🎉😊 And great video capturing it all precisely and concisely!
It's good the community has a few people that spoke up publicly otherwise they might have done nothing about updating this camera. It's a good day for sure, I am really happy to see this update come through and actually exceed my expectations for a change. 😄

You do a quick swipe off the screen left or right. Took me a while to figure out.
Focus breathing comp does not work with Sigma for me. sigma 24-70 DG DN lens.
Yes, it's mostly just for Sony lenses.

I am absolutely dumbfounded! I simply cannot believe Sony didnt add LUT's! They didn't even improve stabilization. It feels like Sony is laughing at A7S3 users. I think I ll start looking for a different camera. Total dissapointment. People think they gave us a huge upgrade. To be honest, considering it's been almost 3 , 4 years, it s a disgrace we get the left overs.

i dont use a7s3 but none of this updated stuff impress me. but maybe thats why i dont use a7s3.
This update changes native ISO settings when using PRORES RAW / Ninja V. It goes from 640/12800 to 80/1600. 😢
Even comparing a camera with older firmware, having the updated Sony A7s3 firmware 3.0 ISO80 was still brighter than older camera with older firmware at ISO640.
Something is not right with this update. 🤔
Again this only effects external recorders such as Atomos Ninja V/V+, Ultra etc.
So do not update if you are a PRORES RAW user!

3:18 what's log shooting mode?
The FX3 and FX30 have a mode that can enable LOG shooting mode via the tile menu (Shooting in SLOG3). It's a different process to the A7S3, even after this upgrade.

I miss the big 100fps on the screen when I am in S&Q mode. Now it doesn't tell you that.
Push display a few times and you'll see an x2 or x4 come up on screen.
I was saying that I would be more happy to get the main menu and the new video shooting layout that dci 4k 24p anf breath compensation. Great job Sony this time.

This is an odd video. Everyone else complained about the F/W and some refused to install it.

As if you're actually missing out something. The camera shoots slog3 just like the fx3.
Incorrect. The FX3 has a dedicated LOG mode from the tiled menu system. You turn it on and off from there when shooting SLOG3 which is a different process from the A7SIII. LOG mode is missing from this new menu system. Rock on.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy You didn't understand me. A7SIII shoots Slog3 just like the FX3 does. There is functionslly no difference between the two.
At the base ISO of 800 or the fx3 in log shooting mode at EI800, the a7siii and the fx3 are EXATCLY the same with no difference in image quality, dynamic range nor noise. There is literally nothing you're missing out on.
You want Slog3 with Cine EI? Import exposure luts in to the camera with the steps being -3 EV to +3 EV with the camera at ISO800 or the second base ISO and never deviate. Functionally the exact same again. It's more work yes but the results you get are the exact same.
Log shooting mode isn't something the alpha line really needs. It's just a luxury that saves time on set for professionals.

Focus breathing feature only works with limited lenses, mostly native g master lenses. So anyone with sigma art glass like myself is out of luck. Making that upgrade useless. Kinda bogus update....who gives a shit about menu layout. A 180 degree feature for video would have been useful. When changing framerates the shutter auto adjusts...ijs

haha. I got an FX3 and A7C years ago, and since then, I have gotten a good mix of cameras. I prefer the LUMIX stuff, but I got the Sony gear before they released the S5II and X. I've got a bunch of E Mount lens reviews on the channel going back quite a while and usually try to feature one a month. 🙂 I use a range of gear depending on the situation.
