The egyptian god cards are real when summoned, and when the game is a shadow game the monsters make it real.

Could be psychosomatic. People have burned themselves on stoves that were room temp because they THOUGHT they were switched on; they felt pain and their skin literally developed the burn and blister, despite not being hot in reality. Maybe the holograms are so realistic, people expect to be hurt and their minds convince them. Or your thing, because Lord knows this whole show is held together by 'it's magic, don't question it'.
@@loganteague5805 Except its actually explained several times that Duel Monsters was based on an ancient game where they summoned real monsters. And using the millennium items they can make the cards real temporarily. Also don't forget how the Egyptian Gods were so powerful that even their likeness on a card gave them power. That was why Joey and Odion were stuck my lightning, him playing a counterfeit card (which bypassed the chant) invoked the wrath of Ra.

In the actual show, The Millennium items (Like the Puzzle that Yugi wears, the Ring that Bakura wears, The Rod that Marik wields, etc.) give the user (if they're chosen) magical powers.
In the case of the villains it's the ability to make duels "Shadow Duels" which involve the "Shadow Realm". Now the holograms inflict real pain and the penalties for losing are changed, usually involving the losers soul being separated and lost to the Shadow Realm. The holograms USUALLY can't actually damage things while in a Shadow Game but they can definitely inflict varying amounts of pain depending on however strong they may be.
That's a basic summary of Shadow Games, from someone who actually watched the original lol.
And Millenium Puzzle gives the power to draw whatever card he actually needs :D

also this was a manga exclusive but the big deal about kaiba's duel disc holograms is that they're basically solid and lifelike.

12:00 is a reference to the subbed when malik/marik pulled out the dagger from the milenium rod to threaten joey. They aren't holograms marik used ancient evil magic to make everything in the game bocome real. Which is why they feel pain when their LP is reduced.

The shadow realm makes the attacks real
The "Shadow Realm" was made up for the English Dub of the series. The Shadow Game itself makes the attacks real.
From this point on, LK started using the original Japanese anime. In the US version, a lot of things were edited out, including guns (which is why previous episodes poked fun at the invisible gun thing), deaths (i.e. the part were melvin (Marik) was supppoed to stab Odeon in the eye, but didn't, was never shown in the US release, and cleavage which was the main thing edited out. So from this point, we kinda get to see some of those things. You'll also notice an increase in the animation quality. Hope that makes sense!
The people on the card are the guys that run the Schmoyoho channel on TH-cam. They Autotune news stories and make then into songs. It's hilarious. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife. Check them out sometime, it funny.
Great reaction! Just a tip in case you guys didn't know. You can use the space bar to pause and play videos too. Very quick and you wont accidentally full screen it or anything. The Left & Right moves video 5 seconds back and forward for every press(you can even hold it) and there should be some volume shortcuts on your keyboard.
Just a few shortcuts in case you wanna go rewind and pause a bit faster. There's actually *dozens* more, but I completely understand if clicking is a preference though. No big deal :3

I’ve watched this series many times and never heard the metalacolypse song playing in background as yami burns from the god attack. I’m pretty sure I hear the song “go into the water” for background music.

the god cards Saint Dragon - God of Osiris (slifer the executive producer), Giant God Soldier of Obelisk (obelisk the tormentor) and The Sun God Beast Ra (mega ultra chicken) are not holograms when a person plays them and people with god cards or melenium items have the power to make their other monsters do real damage to humans and the surrounding environment. So Yugi was being burned by actual flames.

3:10 I think the reason for that is they may be using a scene from the Japanese version, instead of the 4Kids version. It's just a guess but I know for a fact that it is censored in the 4Kids version just like the violence and language.
