I totally agree about supporting our local yarn shops Tash. One of my favourite shops is having to relocate due to rent increases, but they haven’t found a new location yet. They had a lovely little cafe, couches, and a wonderful range of yarn from super fancy down to budget acrylic. Owned by the same family for 35 years.
Thanks for another great episode, your dress is AMAZING!!! 😱😃🧶
Thanks so much Susie. I hope your LYS finds a great new location.
so sorry about the fish, and I understand the pain of witnessing a living being struggling without being able to help...💚
You look amazing in the coral color of your field sweater! Anxious to see it all finished.
Thank you so much. It is done just in time for the Japan trip. It will definitely feature in my travel videos. :)
Another lovely podcast. I can’t believe how much you knit and work part time and be a parent and a wife!❤❤
Thanks so much Joanne. Like most mums, i do a lot of multi-tasking. ;)
Your Field pullover is absolutely gorgeous! Just beautiful. Have a wonderful trip to Japan!
Thank you so much Casey. :)
Love your podcast! Always full of great tips!
Regarding your comments on casting on for a new hat using a yarn stash, I believe It's fantastic to look on Ravelry for inspiration and create our own version of a knitwear piece. My grandma would look at a picture of something and replicate an entire stitch pattern. I would love to reach that level of independence. It is good to support designers but also be able to do our own thing.
That's a great idea! I think with things like hats where you know how decreases generally work and the number of stitches needed for a particular kind of needles, it does mean that you can make your own pattern and adjustments as you go. It is empowering. Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement. :)
Just did a marathon watching your tutorials. Very helpful. I gave up on the Field sweater because i simply could not init 5 together but may try again after your tutorial.
Im always amazed that folks in Australia knit because although i know you get winter but not really. I live in Canada.
Thanks so much Lisa. I hope you can manage the K5tog by using a crochet hook. It really is a lovely sweater.
One of the things about Australia is most of our houses arent designed for cold weather. So when it is even remotely cold, we need to wear lots of warm clothing as the houses arent heated as well or as efficiently. ;)
Always such a lift to my day to watch your video with my coffee. I so agree with you about supporting our local small yarn businesses. I am fortunate enough to have a small shop a few miles away so I do 95% of my shopping there. I love the fact that we can have access to your wonderful tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing your skills with all of us. ❤
Thanks so much Maryann. x
In terms of vlogmas or vlogging, I think what you did with Bec for the Bendigo Show was great, a little change in scenery (for us and you) and a little footage / photos of your adventures in Japan is more than enough! I think we're all curious to see the yarn shops in Japan so very much looking forward to that. I went to Skein Sisters as part of a yarn shop crawl last month - I have shopped online from them many times before because I live nowhere near them, and I specifically drove there from my hotel across the city and was disappointed in what they had in store, so I'm glad you mentioned that. I went there to support them (along with many other yarn shops on my travels) and wasn't able to purchase anything sadly. Hopefully they can turn it around so that we who want to support them can 🙂
Thanks so much Erin. I will definitely be sharing parts of the Japan trip that I think people might find interesting. I am really glad that Skien SIsters have a plan for I really hope the changes are really successful and they get back to being a strong and vibrant shop. :)
Teared up when you talked about your student. Thank you for praying for him! It makes me feel peaceful to watch your yt while knitting. You have such a calming voice and friendly personality. And I love to see what you have/had on the needles. Newly subscribed.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching and for your lovely comments. :)
I Love your podcast…my first time and you are Delightful! Your choice of colors and patterns are so inspiring! I want to knit them all! Looking forward to your next video! Thank you!
Thank you so much Mary! Welcome! I am glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Your Field Sweater is so pretty. I love the color. (I just made it through the short rows!). I really like the color. I can hardly wait to see how you finish the cuffs.
Thanks so much Mary. I know whatever i do, i dont want it to distract from the beautiful yoke. :)
Thank you for a lovely podcast ❤
Thanks so much Donna

Another wonderful podcast and when you mention about the 4.25 mm needles, I shouted out YES. 😅. I agree that when doing sleeves that the jump from 4 to 4.5 mm is too much and I noticed this on my sleeve for the Aileas cardigan I just finished so do some of the ladies in our knit group. I was actually thinking of contacting chiagoo Safe trip to Japan, should be exciting
Thanks so much. I think what i end up doing is just working with a 4mm needle but perhaps have a couple of extra sts due to the gauge difference - which can often mean just not decreasing away those two extra sts under the sleeves. Nice to know i am not the only one who thinks that jump is a bit too much. :)
Top podcast, as always. Have a lovely trip to Japan x
Thank you so much! :)
Another lovely video Tash. Hope your week ahead goes smoothly. Blessings Gail 🙋🏼♀️
Thank you so much Gail. x
Love your field sweater ! I am knitting one also, and found a very helpful video on YT. It´s Mark Vogel, he is showing how to cable knit the grains without the cable !!! It goes so much easier and faster ! Maybe you could use it for the next field sweater LOL!!!
Hi Christina. Thanks so much for the suggestion! I'll definitely check him out. I am always open to tips to help make the knitting experience more enjoyable/easier/smoother/faster. :)
Hi Tash! I miss watching your podcast
I’ve been away busy for a while, so many episode to binge 🤣🤗
Thanks so much Dina. :)
I used your Icord tutorial and thank you as I had the same problem with Stephen’s instructions. I’m sure I will need it every time even though it is very easy but I don’t do it often enough to remember. I like the tail at the start of the underarm CO as it’s in place to fix any gaps. I have regretted using the backwards loop cast on every time I’ve gone ahead with it thinking maybe they know something I don’t. Your dress is beautiful and fits so perfectly.
I love all your comments Hilda. Thank you so much for your feedback on the backwards loop cast on. I dont mind it for the few sts under the arms, but the whole back cast on??
I also really like your point about the weaving in the ends and having the yarn right there by starting at one end of the cast on. I leave a long tail and go along the cast on towards one side and then back to the other, but it is completely valid to start at one end and then work over to the other. I will mention that option on my next video.
Thanks again for your thoughtful comments and your lovely comment on my dress. :)
Great podcast. Love all your knits and your tips fabulous. Can't understand how you fit it all in. I am a teacher 2 days a week grown up kids. I have a very easy job only 8 kids in the school. Easy Peasy workload. An idea with your snowdrop? jumper is Ulysse ciel pale blue beautiful and I used tilia filcolana (mohair & silk 281) gorgeous icy colour. I am knitting up the decision cardigan a cable knit. I did buy my yarn in Berlin. The main issue for me with yarns is that I want to feel them before I buy them & then it might be a colour issue also. It happened with the spincycle which I love but so expensive. You really need to see the colours and match up your colour scheme, and even overseas you may have your colour all worked out & then they do not have the colour range (no doubt due to the expense of their stock). Have a wonderful fun and relaxing time looking forward to see your pics from the trip.
Thanks so much Jenny. That is definitely one of the difficulties of yarn shopping. Lots of colours online but you cant see them in person and match them together. In store you get to see the yarn but they may not have it all in stock. I would love to go to a yarn store that was its own line like Knitting for Olive and they have practically every colour right there. But then i imagine i would be incredibly overwhelmed and have trouble choosing through too much choice. I think that is why i love ravelry as i get to see what someone else has put together. Thanks for sharing what you have been knitting and taking the time to comment. :)
Another great video Tash. Totally agree about supporting our LYS, if we don’t they will all disappear 😢
Thanks so much. x
Great episode,Tash...a pleasure as always and distraction from my healing at home from a very recent total knee replacement.Thougt Id be knitting on a WIP by now but not yet...soon.Keep inspiring us all.xx
Great to hear from you Annie. I hope you are feeling up to knitting soon and that can give you some joy and pleasure as you recover. xx
More knitting ESP. I'm knitting a red Oslo hat as I watch your (as usual) wonderful podcast!!!!!
Thanks so much Rhonda. Looking forward to seeing your Oslo xx
Gorgeous dress. I really like the sleeves as they are on you.
Thank you so much! I hadnt planned them that way but I actually really like them now and I am glad you think they look good. Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)
That would be a great tutorial. Can you include how to calculate for different sizes too please
I agree
I can definitely do that. I’ll start with the numbers I used for Whinfell and then translate them (with a teeny bit of algebra) for other sizes where say X is the bust size of your garment and Y is your hem circumference.
@@mostlyknitting that would be so helpful. Thank you
Emergency knitting is real!😂 A nice 1 by 1 ribbed hat pattern is Porty by Ysolda Teague. Top down, multiple gauges, baby to adult sizing. Same principle as the Musselburgh as in the start of the hat serves as your gauge swatch. I’ve made it a couple of times, once in fingering and once in worsted. Do report on the difference between the Oslo hat and Oslo hat with mohair. I have the latter and really wondered if there’s any need to purchase the second. ETA: I don’t think we need to support a designer by purchasing a very simple pattern when it has an excessive price point.
Thank you so much for the suggestion of Porty. I will definitely report back on the Oslo Hat and the version with mohair. And thank you for the encouragement on not needing to purchase a basic pattern. If i sew something that is inspired by a Gucci outfit, that doesnt mean i need to purchase the Gucci outfit (even if i could afford it)... ;)
Thank you so much, Tash !
Have a wonderful trip to Japan !❤❤
Thank you! 😃 I'm so excited.
Your dress looks amazing. Perfect color choice.
Thank you so much!
Kika, the pattern author, made a video tutorial for the Sailor Swift Top, going over all the various sections including the i-cord bind off . She did say that she made the i-cord too tight on the first try and couldn't get it over her head. :) I suppose that could be the reason for the floppy backloop cast on.
I dont usually comment on videos but since I'm here now, just wanted to say that i'm really enjoying your projects and the way you explain your making decisions. Have a great time in Japan!
Thank you so much for commenting. I started watching the video but didnt get all the way through. I might watch the whole thing before i start - while knitting on something else. I'm all for preparation. ;)
Love your videos! I so appreciate all the details you provide! My only problem is I LOVE all of your projects and can’t decide which one to start first! Thanks for all you do❤️
Thanks so much Deb. That is how i feel with all my upcoming plans - at times i feel like i mentally spin in a circle trying to decide what I most want to do next. Glad i am not the only one. Thanks for watching. x
Hi Tash, same potential patterns 🤔 I think some designers are a bit ______ I have mixed feelings on some of them. If they are inexpensive fair enough but when they are quite a bit it makes me pause .
You won’t get missed in Japan your blonde hair will be the standout 🤭
I always think of patterns as guidelines and often veer off course 😬😂
I’m also considering the tynne line for the Kutaar also 💕
Thanks for sharing and have a fun week, happy packing 💪🏻
Thanks so much Karen. Hope you had a good weekend. Looking forward to seeing your next project. x
A couple of my friends have recently holidayed in Japan. Most days they shared short videos; even the usually, most mundane of scenes looked fascinating. If we’re REALLY lucky you too might share one or two vids😊 (no pressure). Love your content and attention to detail.
Thanks so much Karen. I am definitely going to give it a go. I love when Helle from Danish Musings does her travel videos. My editing skills arent up to that standard but I will do my best and share what i can. :)
Agreed - Helle and her podcasts/travelogues are wonderful. Don’t worry, we will be happy to see anything you have time to share from Japan; raw, un-touched footage can often be as enjoyable as that which has been edited. Have a great time.
Tash a busy podcast and I love the Windfell dress it looks so good on you. The hat pattern in charcoal looks good. The red hat so you can be seen in Japan. The cast of the Alpine Sweater and I think this one will be a winner. Dotted Rays being knitted in another colour as your Japan Knitting. The Japan visit is it a sudden plan or a long planned for trip ?
Take care ❤😊
Thanks Rosemary. It was a bit of a last minute change when we couldn’t go to the US as a family. Zac has always wanted to go to Japan and Paul and I are keen so off we go tomorrow. :)
@@mostlyknitting Tash and Family Bon Voyage
You inspire me with your videos, have a wonderful trip to Japan ❤
Thank you so much. x
Are you planning a tutorial on the tubular cast-on? I’ve made many Classic Ribbed Hats with a standard long-tail cast-on but I like the look of yours better.
Have a good finish to the term (3 more weeks here in Canada) and prep for Japan.
Thanks so much. I hadnt planned to do a video as i quite liked the one that Lorilee did. th-cam.com/video/ITM9Zodn-Uk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jAX4g4MKB-07hVJS
Having said that, she does hold the yarn continental style and I know that can be harder for someone who knits with the yarn in their right hand to translate. Let me know what you think. I am happy to do one - i wouldnt mind starting another Purl Soho Classic Ribbed Hat - good travel knitting. :)
Your dress is beautiful! Love your vids!
Thank you so much! Debbie! :)
If you have a minute, can you take a picture of the pins you use to block a wip. I have been doing a few sophie scarf. Have an amazing two weeks in Japan. ❤
Hi Joyce. I'll show them on next week's podcast but here is a link in the meantime to the kinds of pins i use. x

Hallo! I'm not sure if Japanese Patterns and Knitting brands like Daruma or Amirisu or Japanese Designers like Erika Tokai are on your radar but I just wanted to mention them just in case since you are planning to go to Japan. Hope you have a great trip!
Thank you so much. I know of Amirisu but havent heard of Daruma so I will definitely look up before I go. Thank you so much. :)
I agree with @maryannbergeron re: boost to the day while sipping on coffee…I really enjoy your channel, tutorials, content and your presentation.
Thank you so much x
I would love to know if it’s worth buying both of the Oslo patterns. I have yet to purchase either of them because I don’t know which one would be most beneficial. I don’t want to buy both mostly because I just think that’s silly that they’re two separate patterns to begin with. But if they’re different enough that’s it’s worth buying them both, I’d like to know that too.
Glad it is not just me who wonders these things. I will definitely be reporting back on the Oslo hats next podcast. :)
❤❤❤
If the patterns are similar but only sizing different the designer should state that. It’s not a very nice practice on her part.
I'll definitely report back. It would be nice to know up front if there is any difference between the patterns or if they are basically the same. So if you only need to buy one, which one has more information. :)
