This is the first time I've seen one of your videos. I really enjoyed how you talked about each pattern and shared your personal variations of them. I look forwarad to seeing more of your videos.
That was Great,,,!!! Thanks so much,,, Love seeing all UR variations of the patterns,,,,and tips,,, Elaine 💓🏠 Making blueberry waffle socks right now,,,,in a scrappy pair,,,,and love ,,love!!!
Thank you for your compilation. Having you share patterns you have made over & over is like sharing a family recipe to me. I can’t wait to make the patterns you recommend.
Love all the examples. Wish I had more than one pair of hands to knit lots of these! Especially love the tube hat - not made one before and can think of lots of family and friends to knit that for. I'm currently knitting Dickie neck warmers for my toddler grandson - v easy to get and off him and perfect under a jacket for winter at his outdoor nursery.
New to me today and I thoroughly enjoyed your ideas and presentation. Now got some planning to do over the summer for cosy winter gifts and essentials. Come to think of it the dog could do with a new blanket too ... 🐕 Thank you.
I haven’t really done much gift knitting in the past but this Christmas I knit the Coudburst mitts, the Semplice Mitts, and a Musselburgh hat (my fourth and I still don’t have one for myself!). I started a two by two hat which I think could be a great gift knit and found the Pioneer gloves a little to late for a Christmas gift but will make them for myself soon. They look like a great gift knit as well
Wow, congrats on 137 comments on this extra episode. This is a great one for ideas for gift knitting. I forgot to comment in episode 117, love, love those cute leg warmers. They make me think of ice cream, especially spumoni. So cute! I've made the bandana cowl and Musselburgh each once. I want to make them for myself as they were for others.
Thank you for sharing! I tend to do a lot of gift knitting for my family, including grandchildren and son-in-laws. The Musselburgh hat is my favorite hat to knit for gifts (you definitely need a warm hat in MN). I also knit a lot of socks, usually in fingering weight; using my vanilla sock recipe, and changing the ribbing or the pattern depending on the yarn or my mood. In the past year, I’ve knit several pairs of color-work socks; including the Herding Cats sock pattern and the Fletching socks. Mittens and Sweaters are other items that I knit for gifts often, usually knitting the World’s Simplest Mittens, the Classic Cardigan, the Antler Cardigan, and the Flax Sweater, all by Tin Can Knits. Thank you, again!
So nice to see all the gift knits. I really want to knit some socks again after watching this. I do love your creative colour choices, so energising and happy!
I have almost all of these patterns myself, and it’s nice to see someone else’s take on a similar (or same) pattern !! I’ve made Blueberry Waffle socks many times…it’s so much fun to knit, I can’t stop!😊 Ribbing is a sizing/fit lifesaver! Thanks for a recap! A scaled-down list compared to my own queue…which leads to indecisiveness… lol
Great ideas. I have saved many of them in Ravelry now, thanks to you. I love using the LOSY hat pattern for using up sock yarn as you hold 2 strands together and it makes for fun hats. Great for gifts or to make some for the homeless.
One of my new favorite cowl patterns is the calluna cowl by lamb and kid, and it's free! Super easy lace design and it's actually pretty quick! It's a great pattern to take on the go because it's an easily memorized 4 row repeat.
I make the gingerbread hat which is a free cabled hat. I have also made the antler hat which was gladly received. I made Thumper mitts that involve making a bunny with cabling. It was free. We don't have as severe winters as you do, so my makesmight not be as warm as yours! You have a nice podcast that I try not to miss!
Great time seeing your go to knits, mine also is blueberry waffle socks plus lots of women's ankle plain, with different cuffs i love your peek-a-boo one, picot as well.I have 1 crochet and 1 knit hat pattern I always do.
Thanks, this was a wonderful compilation of go to patterns! I have knit the “MT Baby Raglan” pattern by Amy Gunderson many times to make gifts. I love the Blueberry Waffle socks and have made that one many times using 64 stitches with a single strand of fingering. Happy knitting!!
Love these go-to gift knit suggestions, Stephanie, thank you for sharing!! I will be sure to try some! I like to gift the Bandit Cowl, pattern by Clinton Hill Cashmere, (I’ll use washable hobby store yarns😄), World's Simplest Mittens, and a modified version of the Cozy Cuffs, free pattern by The Lamb & Kid. I also like the Baby Sophisticate cardigan pattern for children gift knitting. And of course I’ve knit or crocheted a million baby blankets throughout the years, in various stitch patterns! Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday! 🍁🍂🍂🧡💛
Thank for the gift knitting inspiration! I've made a few of these patterns, and added four new patterns from your go-to ideas. Every year, I choose a new hat and mitt pattern to gift knit. This year's patterns are the Red Hook Beanie by Maison Dene, and Stockinette Mitts by Svetlana Volkova.
I LOVED all of the patterns you suggested! Some of them I’ve had for a while and forgot about, so thanks for the reminder that I need to make them, even if just for me. 😊
Thanks for sharing all your great gift knit ideas! Yours all look wonderful, especially like your marled socks! I’ve knit the Grain shawl before, might be time to cast on another!
Hi Stephanie! Thank you so much for your gift knit recommendations. I usually start gift knitting in August. I live in Eastern North Carolina so I usually knit with a wool blend. A couple of my favorite knits are the Cloud slippers , fire pit mitts, Bonnie Earwarmer, and Chrysalis ear warmer. I love to knit for friends and family.😊
Hi Stephanie! I am new to your channel and just wanted to say I love it! I really enjoy how you talk about the patterns and their construction and the yarn and then any changes you made… it helps me decide if this is a pattern for me! I have found a lot of inspiration with your podcast! I really like this project list and have several of them! One project on my list for the new year is the Ranunculus.. I find it intimidating… not sure why… I have the pattern and yarn ready…😊
Thank you Stephanie for some really great practical gift ideas. I love to knit for my family and friends and will be making some of your suggestions for sure. I have made quite a few musselburgh hats and the classic ribbed hats too. Great presentation, clear and to the point. Loved it 🧶♥️
Thanks for the ideas Stephanie...I have added some more things to my queue 😉 I love the Purl Soho bandana cowl; you inspired me previously to try that and I have made two using the Breton stripes version, just swapped the colors between 2 balls for each one. So fast that I made one in a day! That's a first for me. And you know, I AM going to gift knit for me for my stocking...if I start soon enough, I will have forgotten by Christmas 😂
You are so welcome! I'm so glad you gave the Bandana Cowl a go - it's so satisfying to knit up and so cozy to wear. YES always to gift knitting for ourselves! Take care and talk soon Jessica!
I'm loving this compilation, and seeing your projects with the patterns! I was gift-knitting as I was watching -- I'm trying the watch cap hat from Purl Soho. My favorite go to is Tori Yu's Manhattan Hat, it's easy and has what I feel like is a fashionable decrease shape, for the fashionable friends in my life. I usually try new patterns for gift knits, just for fun and exploration, and I try to pick patterns that look like RTW.
I have been recently obsessed with making the Purl Soho Classic ribbed hats. I have found that my favorite combo is holding 2 strands of Knitpicks Palette either two of the same color, or marling 2 different colors. It's such an affordable yarn and quick knit. I'm stocking up on them for Christmas (and birthday) gifts!!
Great episode, Stephanie. I like all of your suggestions, especially the hats. I've gift knit several of the Everything November mitts, the ribbing makes not knowing someone's hand size less critical. I hope you have a delightful Thanksgiving! harpingJanet
Thank you! I feel like I should always have one going so that I a whole bunch of scrappy Everything November Mitts and just put them in a pile lol. Take care Janet!
Such a useful video, thank you so much. I also love the Harlow Hat by Andrea Mowry. This is also a very versatile pattern which uses simple brioche in the round.
I so appreciate this list of gift knits especially since you have made them! Jason's Cashmere Hat (free) by Melissa Thomson is one of my go-to hat patterns. I also like Red Rover fingerless mitts by Carlie Perrins since they have a fun pattern with purl stitches so easy to follow. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! It’s important to me that if I’m going to suggest a pattern that I can actually vouch for it. Plus, I really wanted to showcase how a pattern can really be a blank canvas that we as knitters bring to life in color with our yarn choices. Thank you for sharing your go-to patterns - I hope others are reading the comments for ideas! Take care ❤️
Thank you for amassing all the information and sharing so many great gift ideas. I've made several of these but look forward to trying some more 👍🏾 I also like the Sockhead Slouch hat (Kelly McClure?) for gift knits. Subscribed 😊
Another fun and inspiring video Stephanie, and such a nice way to start the day. I love your choices for gift knitting, and really appreciate the suggestions for holding yarn double or marling to use up those special skeins I haven't known what to do with. Oh, and I LOVE the pullover you're wearing! I'm going strait to your Ravelry page to see what it is . Hope you have a wonderful day 😊
Thank you so much! I will include what I'm wearing in the show notes - thanks for showing interest! It's the Coloring Book Raglan by Aimee Sher. Take care!
I added a couple of patterns to my Ravelry library after this episode. I like to gift knit the Scrap Happy hat by Cassie LaFollette or any of Kacey Herlihy’s cowls.
You’ve made a really useful and unique list, thanks so much. I have a question about your experience with the Bandana Cowl by Purl Soho. I’ve made this as well, love it for the same reasons, but I often have trouble with the neck edge flopping or rolling out on itself. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Thank you so much! I think you could experiment with a going down a needle size for the garter part or bind off tighter but still making sure it fits over a head. Best wishes!
I have enjoyed making the Breezy Louise cowl for gifts. Super easy & one ball of yarn with different colors makes it fun to knit. It is a free pattern by Laura Dobratz.
Absolutely! For me personally, I wouldn't be gift knitting to anyone I didn't know well enough to know if they can or cannot wear wool. Plus, there are many other reasons for knitting with other fibers as well - they all can fulfill different functions/purposes.
Adding to say that when you say "...your friend" I wasn't sure if you're referring to me and who I gift knit for or a general "your friend" to anyone who's reading the comment.
Ty so much for these tried (by you) and true gift ideas… on my way to my yarn stash now! 😃👏🏼🧶🥰….another pattern I love is “Cozy Handwarmers” from Churchmouse Yarns and Teas…. Worsted weight yarn and simple yet clever design for both circular And flat knitting 😃🤩
Thanks for the inspiration, I immediately cast on a marled version of the Grain shawl for my niece :)

Such a useful video, thank you so much.
I also love the Harlow Hat by Andrea Mowry. This is also a very versatile pattern which uses simple brioche in the round.
You are so welcome! I’ve seen many cast on that hat - it looks lovely.
I have a favorite hat pattern. The Easy Knitted Hat pattern. I’ve made three of them. Not sure who the pattern is by, though!

Another fun and inspiring video Stephanie, and such a nice way to start the day. Whoohoo! Thank you for sharing your go-tos!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for such a timely video.
Can you tell me the name of the sweater you are wearing please?
Thank you! It’s the Coloring Book Raglan by Aimee Sher.
🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
Be sure to check if your friend can wear wool. If not you can get some great alternative yarns.
I’ve knit 3 of those Purl Soho ribbed hats. Absolutely love them, but I get tired of the ribbing so fast 😫
I have several projects on the needles going simultaneously so when I just absolutely don’t feel like 1x1 rib , I pick up something else 😂
You are so welcome! Thanks for sharing your go-to! I hope others are reading through the comments with other people's favorite gift knits.
Such a fun video. I have made many Drop Stitch Cowls by Abi Gregorio as a fast gift 🧶
Thank you for watching and sharing!
