  • Alex and Eric head out to the Ottawa River for a weekend of whitewater canoeing. A brand new Esquif Canyon canoe with whitewater outfitting (Mike Yee Outfitting, North Water Spray Deck) ready for its maiden voyage. This was the perfect whitewater prep for our 2021 expedition, Cote Nord: Maze to the Aguanish.

I loved this video for the technical canoeing. I'd love more commentary on what you're doing, how you decide what to do, and why you do what you. When do you paddle hard, when do you paddle slow. Tips on reading the river. I'm just getting into canoeing. My husband and I are taking a beginner river canoeing course this spring, but it's always so helpful to see what others do.

I prefer a folding knife in life jacket pocket. After 40 years paddling canoe and kayak on class 1 to 4 water, I have found Exposed knives have become caught on branches and even being the person on the rescue rope. They are also harder to hand off to someone who might be in a position to cut something.

Nice technical paddling. It is always more fun to pick a clever line through the whitewater than to blast through fast. Makes the day last longer (read fun). Mad skills bro. Nobody wants advice but here is some. You really should have done a few wet exits in flat water before hitting those runs. Especially since one of you had never swum whitewater before. And the whitewater swim should have been first on your list. It looked like he had the right form going through. Was he cautioned about low feet getting snagged in rocks, and that its impossible to get the foot out once snagged? You just die bro.
