lol, this whole thing doesn’t happen without Hollands mismanagement. He signs nurse at 9.5, then signs Campbell at 5x5 followed by his buyout. If those contracts were handled correctly Bouchard would already have been on an 8 year extension out of entry level instead of a bridge and both Holloway and Broberg would’ve been signed to 2 mil each by 2 instead of the lowball nonsense during the season.

Also Neal still being ppaid $2mil/yr to not play. Also had to pay Yamamoto to leave/quit... & some others like duncan Keith, goalie Smith etc etc. Lots of wild desperate swinging for fence; hiring Kane, not evaluating Nurse

Another thing that's a bit wink wink is the fact that Kane didn't get surgery right away in the off-season. He could've already been 2 months into recovery before the season, but now that there are offer sheets, it's Oh Kane needs surgery now. It seems fishy to me. Waiting to have surgery just means you lose the player for more games in the regular season, and I guess Kane will be 100% right in time for game 1 of the playoffs. There's too many LTIR shenanigans

LTIR is a tool for cap circumvention brought to us by the cap circumvention experts over in Toronto. Those guys invented Robidas island. The whole LTIR system is seriously flawed.

Something that wasn’t mentioned is that the offer sheets couldn’t have been made without Pittsburgh trading St. Louis their own draft pick back. The second & third round picks have to be your own picks; but until Dubas did Armstrong a solid and gets him the St. Louis pick back, then St. Louis can’t do the double-barrelled offer sheets.
So it’s not just Army that is sticking it to Bowman.

I’m not a conspiracy guy not, but, it’s this like 1950’s sports where the owners screwed players and took all the profits, so my take is that most GM’s had or have an unwritten rule not to offer sheet, in essence keeping salaries down and screwing the players into a corner, “so what you going to do about it “ has kinda been the attitude for decades, let the facts show how few offer sheets there has been since salary cap, I hope this opens the doors for the players better and hope the NHLPA takes notice, colluding with other teams to keep players salaries low is wrong❌, it’s obviously happening, I will say this happened because most GM’s don’t like bowman or his dad, so they don’t care about the relationship with him, I agree if Holland is still the GM in Edmonton this does not happen, talk about collusion in sports and the players get screwed
    Thank you 🙏

Even if the Oilers could afford it, they wouldn't pay Broberg 4.6, someone is huffing gas over there in St. Louis. He's a good kid, but he ain't worth that at this point.

    • @alexschneider8494
      @alexschneider8494 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

It’s not about him actually being worth it. You’re missing the point. Doug Armstrong knows it’s an overpay. The Blues aren’t contenders right now and have open cap space. They’re basically getting an 8th overall pick defenseman with tons of time left to develop for a 2nd round pick. Eating $4.6 mil for two years isn’t a big deal for them.

Jake Sanderson has had a couple of decent seasons as a defenceman for the Ottawa Senators. Yet last September after only one season in the NHL, then-GM Pierre Dorion offered an eight-season US$64.4-million contract, which Sanderson delightfully signed.
I do understand wanting to sign a decent defenceman to a multi-season contract but US$8.05 million per season seems to be way over the top on a team that as of the date of his signing had not made even ONE post-2017 playoff appearance. The Sens, following the:
      - mid-April end of last regular season, saw their playoff appearance Road extend from a 6287 season, with only the Wings and Sabres having had longer such droughts than them
      - early-May end of the first round of last postseason, saw their playoff series win drought, tied with the Ducks for 5th-longest, also extend to a seventh season, behind only the Wild, Kings, Wings and Sabres
      - end of the May-June Western Conference final, the latter of such finals to end having done so early on the a.m. of 3 June Eastern Daylight Time, steam, such a relevant appearance drought extend to a seventh season, 2nd-longest, among 17 teams with such sub-10-season-long droughts, with:
      - only the Blackhawks’ 9-season-long one, of such droughts, longer
      - the Ducks, Preds and Pens tied with those Sens
      - the Kings, Devils, Utah Hockey Club whose players and personnel the NHL had last April allowed to inherit from the Arizona Coyotes as part of a move from Mullett Arena into the Salt Lake City-based one of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, Canucks, Flyers, Wings, Sabres, Wild, Leafs and Blue Jackets having had conference final appearance droughts of at least 10 seasons each

First off - Kane will get surgery and LTIR'd, secondly, Broberg will be a HUGE bust in St.Louis with that money and pressure on him after only 10 good games, and 3rd, Holloway's will be matched. We'll use St.Loo's 2nd pick for a real 4m dman at the trade deadline. Kane will be back healthy and raring to go @ playoff time - all good

I think you have it backwards.
    I think they match Broberg.
With Kane on ltir they oilers can basically max out the ltir for Kane and likely they will trade mid season with Ceci where people see he’s a good right shot and the oilers aren’t clearly pressed.
Holloway is easier to stomachs but Broberg is the one we can’t replace…

They aren't exciting, but they're solid middle-lower caliber players in the lineup. It was clear to everyone that both of them were positive pieces in the Oil's run in the playoffs. Sometimes, important players don't need to be the highest scoring.
The price just went exponentially up for two solid, proven players with indentities on the team in high pressure scenarios. It would've been a bargain to sign both of them for under 2 million. A complete oversight. It does clear up some cap space for someone else, but there isn't much left in terms of free agents

a situation that edmonton did to themselves. Not leaving cap space for your RFA's is idiocy. Should have left a UFA alone (Jeff Skinner) and gotten the RFA's under contract before spending to the cap. I know, my sabres didn't wait and still have an RFA.. but they also have room under the cap.

Business, then, is a uniquely HUMAN activity, and is conducted with a modicum of emotion, etc. There can very well be "something personal", or something that is less rational than we might believe.
