@@jonglaubitz4021 Of course I know Dylan wrote it. But z was singing the story with such truth. Doesn't matter who wrote it. I was meaning her phrasing is very blues authentic... but hey, she's black. Sure, Dylan wrote it, but sang it like a white man. She's like a skinnier Tina,Turner!
Great vocal by Bettye and terrific accompaniment by her band. Kudos to the keyboardist, drummer, bassist and guitarist for lending just the right touch to really put this song over. It goes without saying that Bob Dylan's songwriting song writing his terrific - This is one of his best later career efforts.
A worried man with a worried mind No one in front of me and nothing behind There's a woman on my lap and she's drinking champagne Got white skin, got assassin's eyes I'm looking up into the sapphire tinted skies I'm well dressed, waiting on the last train Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose Any minute now I'm expecting all hell to break loose People are crazy and times are strange I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range I used to care, but things have changed This place ain't doing me any good I'm in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood Just for a second there I thought I saw something move Gonna take dancing lessons do the jitterbug rag Ain't no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove Lot of water under the bridge, Lot of other stuff too Don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through I've been walking forty miles of bad road If the bible is right, the world will explode I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can Some things are too hot to touch The human mind can only stand so much You can't win with a losing hand Feel like falling in love with the first woman I meet Putting her in a wheel barrow and wheeling her down the street I've been walking forty miles of bad road If the bible is right, the world will explode I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can Some things are too hot to touch The human mind can only stand so much You can't win with a losing hand I hurt easy, I just don't show it You can hurt someone and not even know it The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity Gonna get low down, gonna fly high All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie I'm love with a woman who don't even appeal to me Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy, they jumped in the lake I'm not that eager to make a mistake I've been walking forty miles of bad road If the bible is right, the world will explode I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can Some things are too hot to touch The human mind can only stand so much You can't win with a losing hand
This angel needs more respect, she has one extrodinary voice, check out her other stuff, this woman is something special, why the hell do the very exquisite always feel so hard to find
Found her by accident. She has a very nice sound. I don't know her songs but sounds cool. I am not a Bob Dylan fan but this is cool. Maybe now I will be.
How did she fall through the cracks of the music industry for so long? She's got more heart and soul than any singer on the scene today, not to mention many "stars" of the past! The only singers that come close to this level are Mavis Staples and K.D. Lang.
Damn she’s giving Dylan a run for it with this rendition, her ad libs are right on. Makes me think of when Hendrix did like a rolling stone and made it his own or all along the watch tower
No other 75 year old woman has this much SWAGGER standing in one spot! Bettye LaVette is my spirit-animal🙋
Mavis Staples. She's older too.
Did you hear about Tina Turner?
And she's wearing those shoes. You go Miss Lavette. She is killing it.😍👑🔥
I thought only Dylan could sing his own stuff, but Bettye covers lyrics like no other. She is amazing.
Curtis Stiger also did this song great justice!
@@jas_bataille Thank you, will check it out.
Not many singers can deliver lyrics just like Miss Bettye LaVette!
Love you, darling lady. Can't praise this version enough. Delivered with so much heart and soul.
Bettye LaVette is the perfect match for Dylan's songs. Brilliant performance, very soulful.
Indeed, BUT tell me about her band. They are fabulous too.
Her version of Mama You Been On My Mind is amazing - it had me in tears
Yes Bob did it with so much SOUL and she picked up on that. That's why.
This is how you deliver a lyric, kids. And that band!
I swear, nobody can touch this version of this song! I just can’t get enough ...........
Thank you Bettye ✌️😎❣️
Nothing like stigers version
I totally agree!!
Fab version but I also like Curtis Stigers interpretation of it too! Both of them great vocalists.
Amen!
Bob Dylan won an Academy Award for this song! Bettye LaVette really does it Justice!😎
What a woman, what a song, so powerful!
In France, we love that lady and she knows it 🇨🇵👑🌞
Now that is the way to get those lyrics across! Brilliant version of a Dylan classic. Well done Miss LaVette. What a great band too!!
WOW.....!!! Soulful cover of this ( grammy winning ) masterpiece by the one and only Bob Dylan.
Oops....not grammy..... "Oscar"
Stunning performance and interpretation..... Wow!!!
She nailed this Dylan tune. Bravo!
Brilliant badass version of a great Dylan song!
'A lot of water under the bridge a lot of other stuff too'. Loved it!!!
Omg, WHAT, a blues singer. So much soul, funk, great storyteller.
Yes your right....but dyjan wrote the story not her....
maybe should have said "great storytelling performance"

My first time hearing this interesting
I first heard this song on Luxembourg radio, driving flat out, Bett came on made my evening.
Magnifique 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Love this woman, she rocks Dylan's song!
Not very often cover's performance is equal to the original. Bettye and her fine musicians take one gem and make another one. Chapeau bas.
WOW! (One of my fave Bobby Dylan tracks- but done in a brand new way!) Very well done!
she adds a dynamic that really amps up the song!...very nice job!
Where was she all my life???? Awesome lady, so cool.
This is the first thing I listened to when I woke up today, I’m so glad I did!
Thank you........,.!!!!!!!!
I love Dylan but I never quite "got" this song.
Now I get it. This is incredible.
It's I believe a girl in trouble, she says sitting on strange Mans lap, waiting on the last train, home , take it she was a hooker, in the song only.

Bettye channeling Dylan!! Hellya!!
I just love this song and this version is great - Bob is truly a wonderful craftsman of song.
A worried man with a worried mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There's a woman on my lap and she's drinking champagne
Got white skin, got assassin's eyes
I'm looking up into the sapphire tinted skies
I'm well dressed, waiting on the last train
Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose
Any minute now I'm expecting all hell to break loose
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
This place ain't doing me any good
I'm in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something move
Gonna take dancing lessons do the jitterbug rag
Ain't no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag
Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove
Lot of water under the bridge, Lot of other stuff too
Don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through
I've been walking forty miles of bad road
If the bible is right, the world will explode
I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand
Feel like falling in love with the first woman I meet
Putting her in a wheel barrow and wheeling her down the street
I've been walking forty miles of bad road
If the bible is right, the world will explode
I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand
I hurt easy, I just don't show it
You can hurt someone and not even know it
The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity
Gonna get low down, gonna fly high
All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie
I'm love with a woman who don't even appeal to me
Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy, they jumped in the lake
I'm not that eager to make a mistake
I've been walking forty miles of bad road
If the bible is right, the world will explode
I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand
