      I had the Zhiyun Crane V2, but it broke the first day of using it. Used it with my Nikon D500. But now I'm using a Moza Air and I love it.

      Matti, maybe just putting the motor strength option on HIGH probably the 1DX wont jiggles anymore, try that, I have one btw, for me its a great gimbal, nothing to complain

    False information in this video: Zhiyun released a gravity adjustment plate to accommodate the 1DX mark ii. I own both the crane, the adjustment plate and it works flawlessly.
    Also - you said you don't want to "battle" with a tool - it should just work? In what universe does anything work right out of the box? Not even glidecams work immediately; hell, you have to BUILD the glidecam before you can even use it. You should have taken your time and balanced it properly to avoid the nodding. You're doing a big disservice to this company by not having followed the instructions, and presenting the product to the masses as if it's faulty or defective. The crane isn't faulty, your *"let me throw it on and NOT balance it or change the motor settings"* mentality is faulty. To any 1DX people reading this, I own this setup with a 1DX and if you balance it like you're supposed to do before shooting, it will work just fine. No nods or defects. I'm just upset becuase this is the first company in a long time that's actually taken the time to listen to its customers, and change what needs to be changed; i.e. the 1DX not originally fitting on the crane, so they made a new adjustment plate to accommodate. I like your channel, but you shouldn't review anything until you have actually done your research. It's not fair to these companies who are doing their best to help consumers like you. I'm sure you wouldn't like that to be done to you with your company/ luts/clothing biz or whatever else you offer.

    Like other people said, you've to change the motor settings for heavy cameras, takes 5 seconds to do in the menu. I can use my RED Scarlet-W on this Crane 2, so a 1DX shouldn't be a problem. And you can buy a dual handle for the crane 2, works really well.

  • @hellohogo
    @hellohogo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +117

    Love ya matti buuut, you gotta dig in more. Firstly, zhiyun makes a new gravity arm for the crane 2 that is longer for the 1dx. Second, that nod only comes when the motor setting is not turned to strong, and/or you’re not balanced. Here’s a pic of my 1dxii on the crane 2 with a canon 85mm 1.2 lens! No wobble at all! instagram.com/p/BfaNG6-BJZ6/

      Totally agree and I’m a fan Matti, but your video just felt like you didn’t want to like it before you tried it. Not to mention the there are accessories now that make the the ixd 2 easy to put on. Also crane 2 is easy to use with the handle on top which is simply not possible with the glide cam. You didn’t even mention advantages like that. I get you like what you like but I enjoy your reviews when they are more comprehensive. Still a fan though and your videos are great!

    • @MelvinJoseFilms
      @MelvinJoseFilms 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I just bought one and the first thing I did was change the motor setting to the strongest setting.

    • @TheZX11
      @TheZX11 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think he didn't have it really balanced. He seemed to have it pendulumed so the weight was just at the bottom, not centered. Nice big gimbal but my entry level DSLR is too light for the Crane 2 or glide cams. The V2 is a better fit. I guess the glide cam is a better fit for the OP's style.

  • @RobertArmstead
    @RobertArmstead 6 ปีที่แล้ว +73

    @matti - Zhiyun made an extension arm specifically for the 1dxmk2. You also have to adjust the settings to "Strong" to get it to handle the 1dx mkii, it handles my c100 just fine and it is a bit heavier. I hate to be critical of your review - but you really should learn the tool first prior to review. Also the dual handle makes this tool better than the Ronin-M in my opinion.

    • @131media
      @131media 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      C100 mark I or mark II? And what lens do you usually use with that setup? I have a C100 mark II (and would probably use my Canon 24-70 F2.8 mark II with it) and have been contemplating this gimbal but wasn't sure how it would handle my camera and lens setup. Thoughts?

    • @RobertArmstead
      @RobertArmstead 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have it on with a 35mm 1.4 and I have gotten it on with the 24-70 mk i. It works because the camera is back heavy enough to allow it to balance sufficiently. The main issue with this setup is more about adjusting the aperture, focus, and overall settings while in use as you will not be able to balance this setup with the grip on the body. For the c100 mk I, the focus dial and controls do not work. I do not know how they will function for the mkii, but I am going to have to purchase a grip relocator and devise a way to wire it to the camera.

      Robert Armstead totally agree mate, the guy always does reviews like he knows what he is talking about tough its obvious he hasn't really used it and haven't even bothered to lookup stuff he had issues with (mostly because lack of knowledge or experience) and states stuff that ain't true. I remember his gh5 review.. was about the same.

    Did you have the power set to high? I use the Crane 2 with a heavy Sony PXW Z 90 without any problem. The dual handle accessory is really useful though. It's impossible to use with one hand.

  • @BrianSellers
    @BrianSellers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey Matti - Looks like others have told you about putting the motor setting to "High" and the 1DXII adjustment plate. I'd recommend Voosestore in Sweden to get the 1DXII adjustment plate. It got to me here in the States in under a week, which is faster than most that I've heard of! Hope that helps - the Crane 2 and 1DXII are a great combination!

    I use both the Glidecam HD 2000 and Zhiyun crane. Different tools for different jobs, but I find myself gravitating towards the gimbal almost every time because it's so much lighter and easier to keep balanced.

  • @maxim.horoshilov
    @maxim.horoshilov 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I have Glidecam HD-2000 and Zhiyun Crane 2. I'm not a very experienced user of Glidecam, but after all the times I used it, I can say that's really difficult to balance it, especially with big lenses. You should put extra weight to balance this thing, and it gets too heavy. I also was surprised how it's easy to get smooth shoots with Zhiyun Crane 2. Balancing wasn't difficult part at all too. I like to have an ability to change the apperture, ISO, and shutter speed from a joystick. This gimbal is a really nice tool for run and gun situations like weddings. As you mentioned in one of your previous videos it's quite good in filming low angle shoots. I agree that motions looks more natural with Glidecam, but for most situations I'd choose Zhiyun Crane 2. Thanks for one more good video. :)

    Matti - I went to Zhiyun Assistant app to my phone and connect to the gymbal. If you scroll to the bottom of the Stabilizer Settings menu, you can choose between three motor strengths: weak, medium and strong. I sent strong and no more jitter problem :).

  • @MarcusRFilms
    @MarcusRFilms 6 ปีที่แล้ว +231

    Matti, I'm lost. Why do a review on gimbals when you admit that you didn't take the time to balance it (but admitted that it takes time to learn how to balance and use a Glidecam), and most importantly, you said you don't even like gimbals in your Glidecam video. Why even do a review????? I love your channel and I've been a subscriber for a few years, so not being negative. But this just sounded like a gimbal bashing video. Oh, and they make handles for people that need two hands to turn it. IJS.

    • @MatthewStinar
      @MatthewStinar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a bad point, but I think he's testing it against what he's willing to spend on setup. It sounded like he was willing to spend just a moment balancing it, but not a bunch of time fine tuning. In that sense, it's not about whether the product works at all, but a matter of how well it fits his chosen workflow.

    Love the Video Matti, but I think a way to fix the nodding problem with the camera is to make sure the motors are set to Heavy (I think that’s what’s it called) there are tree different settings for lighter cameras like Sony a6500. Maybe that will fix it. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I have Crane 2 too. Love the thing to pieces.

    I have a GH4, apurture lens regain and a sigma 18-35 and I also have issue with the nodding you mention at 4:25. I am not sure but I think it is because we havent balanced our cameras perfectly. I think a lot of folks in the travel space jump to get bigger tools like gimbals, without considering that the extra weight and size of these tools will make them less likely to film. If you're just starting out I think it's all about working on telling a good story with a simple tool kit. The buttery smooth footage can come later

    If anyone else reads this you can get dual handles with it which i like because you have the option of a smaller or larger setup which is good for travelling. In regards to the case i didn't notice any smell.

    Love your content, but you really dropped the ball on this one Matti. All of your issues with the product have been resolved by either the company or 3rd party manufacturers. And if you want a different form factor there is the Ronin line from dji. This is like the 3rd(?) "I hate gimbles" video in only a few months. You already know your solution, stick to the glide cam.

    Matti, the NODDING from the gimbal is an extremely easy fix. When i first purchased this gimbal, i had this problem too, but all it took was a little research to figure out. All you have to do is go into the Zhiyun Assistant app, and change it. The factory settings of the gimbal’s motors are set to “weak,” you have to connect your phone to the the gimbal through the app, and manually set the motors to “strong.”

    Did you make sure you had the crane set to the 'strong' setting, which would be needed with the weight of your camera.

    Try Zhiyun Crane Plus or on the mobile app for the crane you have to change it for heavy cameras to stop the jiggle

    Hi Matti- I have this same gimbal that I've been learning to use and I have found the stabilizing arms for the crane 2 to be quite helpful. I had to buy them separately but you get them on Amazon and they come with a remote you can place close to your hand. Maybe that would better suit your needs.

    LMAO at the case smell😂I have the Crane 2 and I haven't experienced that nod. There is a facebook group for cranes with tons of answers for solutions for these kinds of problems. It can be accomplished with your setup tho.There are dual handle options for that gimbal. Zhiyun has also been releasing a lot of different handles that are looking to answer your request of different ways of holding and operating the gimbal. Great vid Awesome gimbal. I love this thing! Also looking forward to what DJI will bring to the table with the Ronin-S

    Can you get your hands on Tilta G2X? It seems it can support C200, so it should hold 1dx2 as well. It also has an option of adding an extra handle via rosette so the way you can hold it is improved comparing to other pistol grip gimbals.

  • @Evannanvin

    Step 1 get Gravity adjustment plate for heavy cams then Step 2 Please install Zhiyun assistant app and choose stabiliser settings and you choose 'strong" you can avoid that shakes....also calibrate with calibration settings in the same app...usual app is zhiyun play....Thanks bro...love your videos...

    I pair the Crane Pro with a 5Dmkiii w/ 24‑105mm lens and it is a VERY TIGHT squeeze and I have to be SUPER careful when I flip around because this combination "works" but it's seriously pushing the weight and size limits. I have to use the most extreme arm positions to balance. I've also gotten the nodding he's talking about, but I just power off and then it's fine again. Incredible footage though!

    I think they are great for lightweight cameras. I have a Nikon D5500, which is a very light DSLR. The MOZA Air 3-axis gimbal is very small and compact as well. Its a good setup for me.

    Same here it jitters - watched one being used at an event I was filming - not impressed - and that was with a 80D. Took to long to balance - it's a pain.

    Hey Matti I would check out the Kylin M from Snoppa. The best thing about it is that the handle rotates so that your not holding it straight. And for bigger cameras they have the Kylin Pro, dual handle stabilizer with better features than the ronin M

    I’ve been using this gimbal for 3 years now. Still works, but I’m looking at other options. I film dancers and i find it hard to film a long piece without it losing a little balance or fidgeting another direction(I have a 6d +24-105mm)

    I see your point with the form factor, but all the changes you wanna have would make the gimbal bigger and for that you already could use a Ronin or some of the extensions... For me it´s build like this because it´s super smal and easy to transport like this

    I noticed at times you were holding it at an angle. I have the original Crane and it seems to work the best when you hold it perfectly vertical.
