Chrome removal showdown

I try getting the chrome off of some very stubborn FMS parts. I did not get to try one product because I could not find it and I did not use bleach, explanation in the video.

The awesome that you're looking for, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't do the job that you're hoping for. At full strength it will dissolve cigarette residue off walls but when you dilute it 50:1 is a good glass cleaner and is non toxic whatsoever. I used to sell it door to door under a different label.

I mentioned it because I have seen a few people say they have used it for this purpose. But after looking around a bit more, I think some of this stuff works great on really poor quality chrome. As I am still trying to finish getting all the chrome off that rear bumper.

I know you cannot probably use this product, because it may affect your wife, but for those that can, Westleys Blech-Wite tire cleaner strips vacu-metal off very well. Modelers have been using it for decades to strip styrene plastic kits. Also, remember that the "chrome" on plastic like this is not actual a type of plating, but instead vacu-metalizing which is aluminum. That's why the vinegar worked so well, it's a heavy oxidizer of aluminum. You can also use any drain cleaner that contains sodium hydroxide which works very well too.
EDIT: I found out that Black Magic bought out Westleys some time ago and the formula may have been changed. So I cannot confirm it works as well as it used to.
