    Hi is it good to put water from the exhaust holes to check valve leak

    do you just put in the valve stem or do you need to connect the valve stem seal and spring & keepers before you do this test as I'm rebuild by cylinder head and need to do this test.

    i did this, left it overnight, after replacing and lapping my valves on a lq4 ls based engine, no leaks were shown and the water level remained the same, upon looking at my valve seats, there is surface flash rust, can i leave it if it didnt leak or should i lap them again? Also, if i didnt leak water, why did my seats get some rust on them

      @PistonShack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cody. Could be just light condensation. If it's light discoloration, metal isn't flaking I won't worry about it. Before installing the cylinder head I also will clean light rust.

      when you tested for leaks did you put the spring and keepers back in? I just lapped my valves and they still leak, not sure if it’s because the valves are just sitting in the seat with no springs .

    Hey my car is loosing coolant, we changed the head gasket and resurfaced the head and put it back together and it’s still losing coolant but not as bad

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like engine might burn coolant slowly if any external or major internal leaks.

      maybe cracked head

    What irony
    I just realized that's the cylinder head off a vw 2.0 which is exactly what head I'm trying to test.
    Pretty sure there's a bad seal around one of the valves on cylinder #4 giving me a P0304 cause there's oil fouling the plug, and there's no crack in the cylinder head.

    Can this effect oil pressure?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't effect oil pressure.

    Can I reuse cylinder head gasket? This gasket before one month I replaced

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nope, you have to use only new gasket and new head bolts each time you take cylinder head off.

      @@PistonShack you dont have to replace head bolts, all depends on your engine.

    a shop is trying to tell me that this is okay and now they won't warranty their work. wtf. theyre really trying to say water leaking through my exhaust valve is okay for a 2500 mile engine bullshit.

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, it's not okay! Valves should seal when fully closed.
