Nice demo! You can use the alcohol part without changing anything. Just put the alcohol burner directly on the ground and only use the top part with the pot stands. Of course, it isn't the best windshield because of the feeding port hole and top holes. At least it had worked for me with the trangia burner. I think this is a nice backup just in case, because I consider there are better systems out there if the main goal is using alcohol stove.

Love these ovens. Have sylindrical cleanburning oven and flatpacking oven. The flatpacking are nice to use in winter when you want to heat yourselv when it throws the heat all around. But these "tower ovens" can do everything and are very versitable. In the high setup, when its have become hot you can throw almost everything semidry in and the fire gets going after some smoking. Just let the oven dry the twigs. If you use dry materials it is almost magical how thick stuff you can use and you dont have run around to find small twigs. Some ovens get problems after a while continous heating because the oven get gloged after a while, but this oven gets better because it gets so warm.
Nice wee stove Martin, really versatile and lite. I have the titanium honey stove which is a similar weight but you have to slit it all together which can be a bit fiddly, and it’s twice the price! Another one to add to your collection! Epic thumbnail btw!

I have one of those - I think mine is Tomshoo but the same thing. Quite expensive for what they are. I found using a wood stove really stressful, I hunted for twigs and even brought wooden kitty litter (yes it works!) and weirdly found pine cones just refused burn even with lots of tinder - cotton wool etc, and twigs...and I had a massive stack of twigs under my tent cover to keep them dry...Didn't matter, I usually ran out of them before I even got water boiling. I was using the Lixada Titanium cup - the 750ml one with coffee press, and it was cold and October, and fairly damp so dunno if that had a bearing. I abandoned that trip in part cos of it (my fault taking a fairly untested stove out with me). I have a Biolite I've never really used in anger - too heavy - but at that at least has a fan and more enclosed chamber, seems to burn really well,, but this one jjust seemed to burn twigs too quickly to actual cook or heat anything. Interesting though, found your video just as I was looking into maybe getting a Des Catty alcohol stove and needing a windscreen. Was going to sell it, but if I can reuse it for that I am totally going to! Also you might have already found out - but when used as a wood stove be REALLY careful. I lost most of a meal once when using this cos it tipped over. It's dangerously top heavy in that configuration. For that reason I might try the smaller single level with the Des Catty if I get it. Maybe I need to make a video about what happened with this stove...

I've heard good things about the Des Catty alcohol stove, and it's cool that you're considering repurposing the Tomshoo for that. And thanks for the tip about its top-heavy nature in wood stove mode - safety always comes first. You know, making a video about your experiences with the stove and how you've dealt with its quirks could be quite interesting. It might help others who are in a similar situation. Would be interesting to contrast the wood stove, the new alcohol stove when it arrives, and my Pocket Rocket. I settled with the Speedster alcohol stove cos you can get a simmer ring with it - I know you can make one for those stoves, but one that fits already is a bonus. I am going to make a stand from a clothes hanger, and have a cheap Chinese titanium windshield coming, but might make a temporary aluminium one in the meantime.

You can just make the notches on the pot stand that comes with it bigger.
You can also just use the two bottom pieces + stand as a wood burning stove

You don't need to continuously feed this. Load up the burn chamber, and let it rip. It will do a boil just fine with a fully packed burn chamber.

The 200 grams is a bit for a cooker plus added alcohol weight. But, sticks are everywhere!

You can put it in your cook pot though, just like a gas stove and tank. I would use the mesh bag to control the soot.
