I enjoyed how you provided so much useful information in under 6 min. Lots of pen reviews work hard to drag it out unnecessarily for 30 min. I find I rarely finish watching their entire video. Well done. Thanks.
As a person of vintage years who had a dip pen at school, the nib does get smoother with use. The fountain pen I had in high school was much nicer, not that endless dipping but I have to say these pens look divine
This looks SO cool. I've had bad luck with glass dip pens so far, so I've gone ahead and ordered the steel and brass nibs along with the indigo pen holder. Your channel is starting to cost me a lot of money! 🙂 Edit: congrats on 1,000 subscribers!
Moeharri, I've had my share of glass dip pen mishaps so I understand your decision to go steel and brass. That is the risk of watching these videos, you will just have to let me know how all your purchases are going! Thanks for the congrats!
@@lianelikes I received my nibs and holder last night and gave them a try today. They worked OK, but still aren't quite what I'm looking for. The ink goes down far too dark and doesn't shade. I was hoping for something which replicates what the ink would look like coming out of a fountain pen, instead of just being a way of putting ink on paper, which they do pretty well. I also received a new glass dip pen (Rohrer & Klingner) which I like more than my previous glass dip pen (Herbin Round), as it shows some shading, but it's super broad (like maybe double broad). My search continues for the perfect ink tester 🙂
Super appreciate your thorough swatch test and review. The steel nib is the top of my "just one more then I'll have all I need" list. Now I really look forward to ordering one. Thank you 😊
I recently purchased the brass nib and I’m waiting for it to come in the mail! I love that you were able to showcase all of the nibs. It’s making me want to consider trying the stainless steel or the glass nib next
Thanks Jessica! I purchased all four nibs as a special birthday gift to myself and I have been so happy with them. If it was one or the other, I suggest the glass nib!
Been using the brass nib for my watercolor and just love it. I use ink, gold metallic inks, acrylic inks and watercolor. Really enjoying it. It was expensive, but i am so happy with my purchase.
FUN FUN FUN!! I loved watching this. I have the brass Kakimori nib and it is really fun to use, I love it. I bought it with plans to eventually do a fp ink collection video. I should get that filmed.
You definitely have to try one of the metal nibs. I’ve found that I prefer using them to draw with instead of writing, they’re really fun to swatch inks with, for sure, just not so much for longer writing sessions.
You might take a look at Shigure Inks for a source of Kemmy 's Labo glass dip pens in the US. I haven't checked their supply in a long while, but that's where I got mine.
You know, hard to say, only because I’ve used it with that one ink alone. I’ll have to test it out with other inks to really get a feel for the different nibs. But so far, I’ve enjoyed the stainless steel nib. The brass looks prettier in my opinion, but right off the bat, I prefer writing with the stainless steel nib. But I’ll have to get back to you in a few months of testing and playing with these nibs before I have a definite answer!
@@lianelikes Thank you! I only have the brass Kakimori nib so far, but based on other reviews I've seen, I probably should have gotten the steel. Some have indicated that the steel nib has a more precise, sharper line. I may have to get one. I really can't justify the glass nib because I have several other glass dip pens already (including one Kemmy's Labo, which appears to have a similar nib ).
I still like the stainless steel nib! Gives me precise line widths and feels smoother. I just wished it was brass, just because I prefer the warm color over the cooler stainless steel.
@@lianelikes Funny now to look back on what I wrote. I now have both nibs and I prefer the brass version. I find it smoother, softer, and less scratchy. It really is a matter of personal taste!
Loved this review! New to your channel and so excited to see some of your videos. Are you buying directly from Kakimori in Japan or from a US distributor? Thanks!
Hi Karla, thanks for your lovely comment! Yes, all of the above! I purchased them through St Louis Art Supply (US), Kohezi (overseas), and from Kakimori as well.
which one is the least wet? glass or kakimori? my issue is that my current 1$ cheap glass dip pen writes way too wet. and I want something that doesn't write super wet at the beginning.
Hard to say, I think they are both very wet writers. If you want something less wet, I suggest a pen nib that Kakimori sells, or the Pilot or Sailor Hocoro dip pen nibs.
You know, I haven’t tried pigment I JS with pigment inks but I bet they would work quite well! Kakimori has a line of pigment inks that are well suited for their brass and stainless steel nibs. For waterproof inks, I imagine cleaning would be a bit more difficult.
I’ve been using the brass nib with black India ink and it works fine. I am very careful to clean well after each use. I have been using Higgins Pen Cleaner and just water for acrylic inks.
Nice video. I’m curious how you like writing with these nibs compared to the fountain pen nib hack you tried a couple months ago. Beyond the ink capacity, do both sets offer similar line consistency / reliability as you write?
Hi, since the video, the glass nib seems to have sold out. I purchased most of my nibs from the St Louis art Supply, but not sure what their inventory is these days!
I enjoyed how you provided so much useful information in under 6 min. Lots of pen reviews work hard to drag it out unnecessarily for 30 min. I find I rarely finish watching their entire video.

Thanks for that lovely feedback, Pamela! I definitely try my best to make the content as meaningful and concise as I can make it!

Of course! Thanks, Tillie.

Sarah, I appreciate your feedback, glad you enjoyed the video!
Just received my package yesterday. Aluminum holder with the brass and the steel nib. Best of both worlds. I have not yet opened the box. So excited.
That is so exciting!!!
Thank you so much for comparing these! I'd been thinking about getting some of them but I wasn't sure which. Super helpful and informative!

Brand new nibs for me, so thank you so much.

Love my brass version. Handy sometimes when drawing.
Definitely, the nibs shine when you dabble with drawing! I especially loved creating doodling parts in this video.

A bit of a latecomer with this query but here it goes: can you use the brass or steel nibs at 90 degrees? E.g. perfectly perpendicular?
Yes, you can! You get a fine line when writing at a 90* angle

Thanks Kevin! I would say that the nibs write with a bit more variability, which is fun and adds a lot of character to your handwriting.
This was very cool to see. What paper are you using with this?
I’m using Tomoe River Paper in my Hobonichi Cousin planner. The perfect paper to showcase inks!
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Hi we’re can I purchase the nibs?
Hi, since the video, the glass nib seems to have sold out. I purchased most of my nibs from the St Louis art Supply, but not sure what their inventory is these days!
I’m overwhelmed by $90. lacquered nib holders…not in a good way.
👍🏼
After about a year and a half, has this nib lasted? I really feel like this style is the future of dip pen nibs.
It absolutely has!
Wish it wasn't so expensive
Oh, you were drawing the pen nibs. I thought you were drawing candles.......😅
Lol!
Will be an eternal wishlist item for me, i fell behind when i saw the price (besides i live in the global south so shipping is reallyexpensive) 🥲
