I hope that you make a video of you just painting a car or a kit from start to finish.
That would cool.
Keep checking to see if the fan caps get back in stock. I’ll order as soon at is available
They say it should be available on their site January 20th.
What a neat, quick comparison video I'm convenience I should get the fan cap/tip it looks like spraying well go a lot faster an make thangs easier thank you Robert for the time you put into are videos videos
Thanks for this mate, I had always wondered but now I can see the differences between the nozzles. I think its like having round brushes vs flat fan brushes in hairy brush painting.
These are so good, and so affordable, I may well be buying a second Swallowtail, so I keep one dedicated to fan tip. If any reader is hesitating, don't. This is a great airbrush. I also own expensive Iwata, and been airbrushing almost 60 years.. This passes my approval and earns my full endorsement.
I'm a rank beginner at 52 yrs old. You give me high confidence that I bought the right tool. I don't see needing the fan cap, as I only paint board game miniatures. But, but if in your expertise you'd say otherwise, please let me know.
@@cyclemadness You'll be fine with standard tip. 👍. The fan tip helps with really large surfaces, like O and G scale model RR cars. Small stuff, a regular traditional tip is perfect.
Swallowtail is still unavailable. Waiting for them to be back in stock. How long have you been airbrushing? Just curious because i just started. Got tired of using spray paint on my 3d prints.
I put my name down for this airbrush. Missed getting one on the 2nd batch😢 Love your videos Robert. I get alot of great info and tips. 👍
Suggestion when spraying metallics, fan or regular tip.. Apply paint from one direction only. I'm right handed and shoot left to right. Always spray your overlap traveling the same direction. the microscopic metallic flakes will lay different in the resin when sprayed opposite direction. By always spraying in one direction of travel, the flake lays the same across the whole surface and under bright light will have a smooth evenness in the flake reflectivity.
Thank you for this tip. Will come in handy.
I learned that same technique when helping friends do custom paint jobs on cars. Never thought about it with hobby/model paints and plastic models like cars 1/24 scale, etc. Makes sense though.
The same applies to pearlescent paints
@@xaviermontalban717 Thanks for this tip. Good to know next time I do a Star Trek ship.
But at the end off your stay pattern if you don't understand spray past... this will leave you with thin paint at one end and thick paint at other end...
Always spray past
Great information on fan cap vs no fan cap. Thank you.
Just used the fan cap on my swallowtail spraying clear coat, was really nice !
Pretty good demo! I would have done just a quick shot of paint out of each without moving the airbrush. DredFX (sp?) did that when he demo'd the ps290 and it was good to see. I pulled the trigger (pun intended! ) and got the ps290 and have been underwhelmed. So, I just got but haven't tried yet, an LPH80. I have some big kits (1/12 'vette, two 1/12 '57 chevies) and I hope the LPH80 is the answer. I bet SprayGunner would send you an LPH80... hint, hint. :)
Fan cap makes spraying paint easier and more even. Thank you for the demonstration. Coverage looked to be near twice as much, thus creating less work. I know you shot primer, so I am assuming the topcoat/color should apply very similar?
Shoot I built that GTO when I was a kid except all the parts were orange.
Will the .5 with the Fan cap push out metallic paints? Waiting for my fancap as well.
@13:30 ...sounds like we need to reach out to Alclad dude
Nice information, curious about your future vids, vallejo seems good
I've been waiting for the fan cap to come back in stock, can't wait, car kitchen the things I paint. I have the swallow tail, and I absolutely love it.
Blows away your other brushes ?
Should be getting my swallowtail tomorrow. Unfortunately they didn’t have the fan cap in stock when I ordered 😢
Here's hoping all of you are doing well.
U just need to shake that primer real good
U know that...has been my experience it's not the plastic jar!
I tried to buy one off their site and it wouldn’t take my credit card or PayPal. Very disappointed.
I love the swallow tail airbrush and fan cap never ever did I think it was going to be this good for the money. Crazy now I have to order 6 or 8 more for so of my airbrush students and some more for back up .and I have just about every airbrush made just like model paint and model kits I collect it all tools and supplies I'm a Sucker for also got to have the newest toys
I'm gonna knit pick so hard here, but I swear I mean well.
If an airbrush doesn't have a fan cap air adjustment, you get what the demo shows after a few passes: overspray. The paint and air have to be dialed in so perfect, or else you get irregular patterns.
I'd call it a "fan cap style" rather than an honest fan cap. I own a PS-290 by GSI Creos and its nearly impossible to get even stynylrez to get down nice and flat and even.
Iwata makes relatively affordable spray guns with a fan cap adjustment that yes, need a beefier compressor, but I'd invest in that and be able to use my airbrushes.
Having said all that, I love the channel and keep up the great work! You taught me a lot and no doubt you'll teach me more.
I too have the PS-290 with fan cap and I had problems laying down stynylrez until I strained it through a 190 micron screen. Once that, I thinned it approximately 10% and it sprayed fine. Maybe I just got lucky? I do like the swallowtail, but I find I like my PS-290 fan cap better for that application. So, for laying primer on large areas, I'll go to my 290, for the rest, I'll use my Swallowtail. Unfortunately, that leaves my Iwata Revolution relegated to storage. BTW: I only use water based acrylics so I can't speak to how well either performs with lacquer or enamel.
Does the fan cap come with the swallowtail or is that an add on? Super interested in this airbrush as my Iwata presents challenges for larger projects such as car bodies.
It's an add on. They sold out but more are coming in by the end of the month
I bought your second batch of Swallowtail air brush, its on the way. 😁 I also singed up for a notification on when the Fan caps come in. Awesome video...
LLAP 🖖
Thanks for the informative video Robert. I am assuming that fan caps are specific to each airbrush manufacturer, and there is no "one fan cap fits all"??
i just found very few airbrush guns on the market w. fan tip.
For your sin my son, you will come to church every Sunday of 2024
For Createx stuff they say to reduce 10% with their reducer and at least 0.5 needle. But i haven't seen the Createx Airbrush line tested anywhere, that could work differently
The package on mine says spray straight to the bottle but can be reduced 10% using their 4011 Reducer
@@barbatosrex9473 they have documentation on their website for every paint lines they have. How to mix each of them, how to store, etc
Good explanation, thank you, Robert.
the fan tip on the swallowtail is awesome cant imagine if it was the 7.0 needle but I'm confident between you and Gaahleri something good is about to happen😁🤩😎thank you my friend take good care of mrs clause God bless🧐😂
Great video Rex, can i use the fan cap with my GHAD-68
Sorry, the fan cap is just for my Swallowtail
Clicked the alert to help analytics and to see this versus video 😊
AFTERWATCH:
Wish the BRex brush set came w the fan cap too -- next version? 😊
Do you know if that fan cap will fit the GHAD-39 ?
It will not
Happy New Year. Nice Review. Congratulations on your sales for your gun & Fan cap.
Yeah, good people deserve good things in life.
I know you prefer to shoot chrome with the .28mm needle and nozzle (as seen on your other video with SMS hyper chrome). Do you think it's okay to spray Duralumen chrome with the .5mm and fan cap? I'm looking to paint a Mandalorian helmet as efficiently as possible. As always, thank you for your help and great videos.
Yeah you'll be fine with that set up. With a large surface like a helmet you're better off with the larger needle.
@barbatosrex9473 thanks a bunch!
I would like a video on how you clean your airbrush and change colors.
Ivve done that already but I can do another
I have the ps290 was gonna buy this swallowtail to use the fan cap with the .7 needle nozzle but thanks for pointing out it only works with the .5. I do smart repairs and love trying new guns and brushes out. The ps 290 in a .5 doesnt distribute the mattalics in a way to match the general look of car paint when blending. They clog abit and are too close together. Had high hopes for the .7 with the fan cap. My smallest spray gun is a .8 and does the job so was hoping this swallowtail with the .7 and fan cap would get the job done on tiny blowins. Oh well hopefully one day they will make a fan cap to suit all the needle nozzle combinations. Luv the channel btw.
I bought the fan cap when it was 1st realized. I plan to use it my multi-engine 1/48th scale WWII aircraft. I figured it would be more efficient way of priming the body & wings, less paint better coverage. This way I could preserve the small panel lines, rivets and other minute details. I think BR proved that when primed that car body, I could still see the variouse panel lines, really well afterwards. Plus that black primer is awsome.
I used the fan cap yesterday and it worked perfectly I love it! Going to order a second set for my studio G
I'm curious: you said you were going to use the body for a build, then primed it without (proper) prep.. are you going to strip it back down, or paint over it somehow? If stripping, what do you use, brake fluid or??
Man it's so amazing to see the difference between an Airbrush priming and spray can priming. Cans just push out way to much paint and if they cut that in half like those Krylon foil paint cans which I used for my Saninju it lays down a nice thin payer of paint and looks great. Just to spray a Matt Balck over a gundam body you have to make sure you got all of your movible parts safe from the paint cause it will ruin them.
I've been having trouble with black and grey stynylrez on my 0.5mm ace. Getting tip drying and clogging issues. Just ordered a swallowtail for the 0.7mm setup. Hoping that helps push this stuff through more consistently. The primer is a little on the thick side. I will definitely be switching to mr surfacer if i continue to have issues. If the swallowtail cant do it, then it must be the primer.
Stynylrez will give you tip dry like crazy no matter what. At least that's my experience. That's just the nature of the beast with water based acrylics. I cut my tip dry down drastically by straining it through a 190 micron screen, and thinning it 10%. Hope this helps. BTW: I got a lot of clogging/tip dry with the .5mm fan cap with the swallowtail. Switched to the .7mm and it cut that down drastically. I'll use my .5mm fan cap PS-290 with stynylrez from now on. But, that's just me. The swallowtail, to me, is more comfortable over an extended paint session.
@@clarenceobert5860 what do you use to thin stynylrez?
I use the home made thinner that Barbatos has on his channel. I also use his home made cleaner as well. Works great on acrylics. You can do a search on his channel and pull up the video. Doesn't take much, 1 drop for every 10 drops of stynylrez.
@@clarenceobert5860 thank you so much!
Do they work on GHAD 69?
Only on the Swallowtail
I'm sure I missed where you said it, but can you use a fan cap with other sizes than the .5? Thanks for making this video because it has now become obvious to me I'm going to need a fan cap to paint my cars in less than hours...lol. Thanks again Robert!
This fan cap for the Swallowtail is designed to only to be used with the .5mm needle. I'm hoping for a .7mm version later as I have a lot of BIG airplane kits to build that covers a large area.
@@clarenceobert5860 Thanks for responding. I checked the website and I can't find a fan cap for the Swallowtail listed nor for the one I bought from them. Maybe it's named differently on their website?
Great information! 🎉🎉
Informative video, as always. Just a note that how the fan cap is oriented will make a difference in the spray pattern. This is something that ccx an make an impact when spraying, especially for beginners to airbrushing
Great video. A Swallowtail is definitely in my future. Anxiety awaiting the Ultra Matt(e) comparison, even though I'm primarily an acrylics painter. When it's warm enough I sometimes transport my portable spray booth (large cardboard box with filter on inside, box fan on outside) out on the patio for any paint involving VOCs, mostly primers like Tamiya.
I like the fan cap but I really like the black primer
I can say this, as a long time Grex user (.5mm fan cap) your Swallowtail with the fan cap is now my go to for car kits. I've gotten better coverage with less product used and the trigger on the Swallowtail is butter smooth. I will still use the Grex from time to time, but the Swallowtail is my new workhorse.
Great comparison video. Thanks.
Thank you for this, it helps a lot.
Great video, as always! In my working days, I worked for a very large airplane building company, and went to paint school to learn to paint airplanes. The spray guns we used were giant by comparison, but the principles were the same. With a Fan Cap, to get the most even coverage of paint, it is basically a 50% overlap on each pass. If you point the center of the airbrush at the edge of the coverage on the previous pass, the applied paint thickness will be the most even on the entire piece.
great video as always
If there ever was a downside to Patreon, it's me asking endless questions of Robert!
Keep in mind to make a fan cap work effectively you have to have an adequate cfm output. Its just my opinion but I have found the fan caps on airbrushes to be a gimmick. If there is no air adjustment knob to the fan you cant fine tune the pressure/pattern for the material you are using.
I use a fan cap with my grex so it was a no Brainer when I seen the fan cap with this airbrush. So far, I really like this swallowtail ontop of that Gaahleri customer service is the best.
I watched a Gaalheria Q & A video yesterday very informative, covered variouse issued people have written them about, like sputter paint output, back-splashing paint, etc. Very nice video. I think their second in the series. I love their customer service.
@@bobrivett7645 where Is this video you watched? I had an issue with an airbrush they sent me. I email them pics and they sent me a whole new brush. I haven't had any issues since.
Im trying to get a second swallowtail. lol, but they sold out. lol gotta wait on the third batch.
They're selling like hotcakes thanks to you guys 👍
what do you have your compressor set at for the airbrush with the fan cap? i think i'm gonna be ordering one of these this week!
20psi
I've got a full size fan cap air gun that came with my fullsize air compressor. I use it for spraying the BITTYDESIGN Liquid Mask on 1/10th & 1/8th RC polycarbonate body shells. This is so I don't need to filter it for the smaller airbrushes for the exact same reason as your old black primer.. A 1/8th bodyshell only takes a couple of minutes to get the proper coverage. The smaller airbrushes was roughly 15 to 20 minutes as you can only laydown thin coats & need to allow them to dry between each coat.
would you spray inside the car if you was doing model for yourself ??
The headliner and window post
Nice comparison! Also if you're spraying something tall and thin, you can turn the cap 90 degrees and spray up and down. For me it's invaluable and I don't know what I'd do without one or two.
Does the FAN CAP fit other Gaahleri Airbrushes?
No, not as I understand it, only the swallowtail, maybe their standard trigger gun with a 5mm needle & nozzle. You should ask them about that though.
Wow you're on a roll. Love your content
Thank you I learned something new
I didn’t know what a fan cap does. You make me understand more about what a fan cap does
Republic of Doyle here in St.John's, Newfoundland 😁👍
Fan cap makes spraying paint easier and even
Video idea... do a phone interview with the Gaahleri owner, discuss his motivation to do a startup in a well packed sector, design ideals to meet, challenges with fabricators, etc. He seems to be doing an amazing job... best bang for the buck airbrushes currently on planet....by large margin.
I really like the fan cap and the trigger air brush.
are we getting the fan cap with our swallowtail order or should I have ordered it separately?
When painting real airplanes with Binks guns, we were taught to overlap 50%
Fan cap is separate add on
I just ordered your Swallowtail brush. I can't wait to get it. I already have a 98D, but I weanted your pistol grip one as well. I DO have a question however. Is it a single action or a double action brush? It doesn't REALLY matter because I'll be using it primarilly for priming items, however, I was just wondering. Thanks!
Love my fan cap❤
I am interested in buying trigger type airbrush can you recommend one of PS-290 or Swallowtail? My intention to use it for spraying primer, clear coat such as KBS , pledge.
Robert Can the fan cap be used on any other gaalerhi airbrushes? Does the swallowtail come with the fan cap?
So, the Fan version would be great for either base coats or applying the base color? Also, I noticed that when you were demonstrating the Fan version, that inside of your color cup there were air bubbles. Should that be normal?
Definitely want to see that spray booth. I am looking into getting a metal one.
That review will be up this weekend
@@barbatosrex9473 awesome. I will keep a look out
Thanks Bob
I just ordered mine today. I can't wait...

Happy New Year 2024. My best wishes for the new year!
I think that the fan pattern of the iwata hp-th its far better, just IMO (x3 in the price, of course)
Just got my swallowtail delivered today, excited to try out
Awesome
Great demo
Is there a fan cap for the .7 needle?
Unfortunately not yet
would love to see a close up of the spray on paper to see how well the paint is atomized.
I was wondering about the fan attachment , you are going to make a painter out of me.
Why is the fan cap only for the 0.5?
I just ordered my airbrush with the optional fan cap. This is going to be a game changer, my friend.
It's a great airbrush, you'll love it
Back to Da Benchhhhhh! See it?
You have NEVER steered me wrong on anything I have decided to buy watching your videos. I have ordered a lot of the products you talk highly of and I will be getting this brush and cap. Thank you for what you do. Look forward to more.

You I was looking for a replacement paint shaker, my old one had died, and I didn't want to buy the same one again. I found this channel of BR testing that 4-eyes paint shaker, while it was twice as much money than my old one, I pulled the trigger and bought it. It's really nice, doesn't vibrate my work bench like my old one. I've had for almost 6 months now and no problems. Will see how well it holds over time. Thank you Mr. BR
I bought that same model, mine didn't have an option to get an extra top rubber though. Haven't had any issues with it. I've found that it's better to pay a lilte bit extra & buy a good product once!
Hey buddy,
Just wanted you to know how impressed I am with your airbrush and fan cap.
I like this thing so much, I have bought five more for dear friends & fellow modelers. Truly a game changer my friend.
Thank you Henry, and thanks for your support
Awesome video Robert
That clear plastic storage bin with Drawers Do you know where you bought it thanks Robert
I got it from the Container Store
Barbatos I am planning to order this air brush, they are fixing web site , not charging tax , the quick release coupling. Is it same as others , I have a Grex system now
Yes it's the same quick release size
I know you have a special fan cap only for the swallowtail. I’m just curious if there is a fan cap for the regular Gaahleri sprayguns that I can purchase. Thank you
The Fan Cap is something I requested they make for my Swallowtail. Anything else would be up to them to add to their own airbrushes. Write to Gaahleri and ask,, they always write back
Fantastic product review, your channel is absolutely killing it my friend. Gaahleri is knocking it out of the park at every turn. @@barbatosrex9473 I am patient and very proud to see that your airbrush is doing so well 😊
Not a real fan cap.
Yep..
@@johnathan133 the overspray as he was testing. That’s going to leave a pebbly finish…
Yeah. For it to be a real fan cap it has to have a separate adjustment knob like on the Iwata lph-80 etc. @@CFster
@@johnathan133 right, plus it needs the correct head design that delivers a full wet spray to the edges of the pattern.
@@CFster That's a question I've had (but never asked). If I'm spraying something like a gloss black base as prep for Alclad for example, if I don't get everything done perfect in one sweep with the airbrush it feels like you're SOL and have to start over. It's impossible to go back and add a bit of paint if you went a bit too light on a spot as the overspray will ruin a "large" area around it.
With a proper spray gun, does that open up that possibility?
Robert, quick question, will the air cap fit the other Gaahleri Ghad-38 trigger airbrush?
It's exclusive to the Swallowtail
Thanks for the reply
Hey dude, unsure if you'll ever see this- but I have a Master airbrush, and I was wondering if the Ghaaleri tips are compatible with regular master series brushes? I want to use a fan spray pattern, but I can't afford a whole new brush.
Sorry my friend, they are not. The nozzle head assembly on the Swallowtail Airbrush is extra large and doesn't compare to any other
@@barbatosrex9473 Ah, thank you kindly for the response at this late hour! And for saving me a few bucks buying an incompatible tip!! XD
