For the whole 'Chief not taking off his suit' is for a multitude of points. One, the armor is very comfortable for him to wear it, like HE was made to wear it. Two, the suit can take care of many bodily functions, like waste. Plus, Spartans usually put the suit on in sterile environments.
Third, there is a line in the Fall of Reach book and movie where the Spartans were claimed they had their helmets as one of theirs was about to die protecting a nuke set to destroy a Covenant ship.
Saying that the helmet is not needing goes back to the whole 'helmet problem,' which the Mandalorian dealt with it perfectly.

One point I think you missed was the asphyxiation via the Condor's life support even working on Master Chief in the first place. It was demonstrated in several of the games now that he can go into full vacuum, even yeeting himself out an airlock during a space battle at one point and surviving planetary reentry, and be just fine, indefinitely. The other Hazard stripes might pre-date the stargate having been installed. That room was once a ballistic missile test chamber. Although old equipment was removed they have chosen to leave the old floor markings. Depending on when they were painted and what was surfaced overtop, they may need civilian contractors to be removed. That means money and security clearance. Even without the Stargate on site, the paperwork for that must be a nightmare.

I think a lot of people might think a lot of the points your making are very small and insignificant that they are almost petty but if anyone ever points this out then I would say they don’t understand really good story telling, the kinds of things your pointing out is really important to hold bad writers and set designers to to account and calling this stuff out helps future writers to learn how to not make these poor decisions as this kind of thing can collapse the world building pretty instantly.

I think it is worth noting in regards to the sub-sub-unit criticism that in the original timeline Spartans teams *aren't* permanent. They re-use the names Blue, Red, Green, etc, but the exact composition and size of each of those teams varies depending on the mission parameters. The only consistent placement is that Blue Team is usually the designation given to whatever unit John is personally leading.

    • @No-XIV-Xion
      @No-XIV-Xion ปีที่แล้ว +11

Yeah, while the rosters changed, it usually ended up being:

So, I have to give slight push back on the sub-sub unit but. Special operations teams, especially highly elite ones (Navy SEALs, Green Beret Delta teams, Marsoc ETc) generally operate in small groups called teams which are permanent, typically have names and will normally have symbol/patches etc.
Now, most of these teams are considerably bigger than a Spartan team, typically somewhere between 12ish, but since Spartans are literally elite super soldiers I can see them operating in smaller groups. Especially since most we see are roughly Squad sized.

@TemplinInstitute So some of this I learned while training to be an army officer, a lot of Cadre who trained me were SF guys. The rest I picked up from history books written about SF and it's history.
I know Wikipedia isn't the most reputable source but if you search "United States Army Special Forces" it has a pretty good break down for it and references to some of those books.
Basically US Army SF is broken down into companies and those companies are broken down into six Operational Detachments-A, some times called A-Teams. These are 12 man Teams each given a unique number. There are also C and B teams which are just support for the A teams.
SEALs have a similar system though their's is odd I'm that the larger structures are also labeled as a Team, like SEAL Team 3, 6 etc. And then theses Teams are broken down into smaller groups that include support personal and the actual operational Teams which are pretty fixed.
I'll admit I'm not wicked familiar with MARSOC but I've heard they're organized in a similar manner.

The SAS has Squadrons (65 men) that subdivide into 4 troops of 16 men, with each 16men formation specializing on a particular type of operations (air, boat, vehicle and mountain). 16 men are 4 fireteams and i guess each fireteam is kinda fixed.
Having 4 super Spec Ops be their own thing is not crazy as Spartans pretty much fill more than one role (they dont have medics or demo specialists as far i have seen)

I was looking for a comment like this. It reflects how the structure of the original Spartan teams was brought up in the books. "The Fall of Reach" was the first book in the series, and it broke down how John (Spartan 117) formed his 30-odd soldiers into teams. They had various specializations and sizes, but they usually only consisted of a handful of soldiers in order to allow them to spread out across human space.
My main point is that these teams should not be compared to general infantry tactics. These are future special forces. Blue Team, in the novels, was the Master Chief's team, and it consisted of 4 to 6 members. Any more would have been concentrating a VERY limited resource into too small of a space and would have hindered the program. Silver Team actually kind of stays in line with the literature on this one. They are a scalpel, meant for surgical precision. Not a greatsword meant for pitched battles.

And the only other ones are on a very heavy sliding door which would also happily chop you up if it was closing (given that its goal is to secure the facility from potential enemy incursions, I don't think that it would open back up if it sensed it was being blocked like an elevator door)

Halsey was the head of the Spartan Program, but the number of people directly interacting with the Spartans throught their raising and training was very limited. Halsey fell into a quasi-maternal role for the kids, and it was established she was one of the very few people the Spartans could speak to more candidly, see George in Halo Reach.

One set is located under heavy blast doors that you really want to stay clear off.
And the other is located in a area where rovers, drones and other equipment are staged, occasionally has missiles fired from it, is a likely location to be hit by gun fire, and is also right below the giant cloud of instant vaporization from a stabilizing wormhole.

12:07 Technically SPARTAN-II teams were temporary and changed composition based on mission needs, while there were still more than a handful of SPARTAN-IIs, team names were just used to signify which group of Spartans were on which objective (eg: Blue Team would be the primary force, Red Team would be the secondary one and when requiring enough Spartans, Green Team would be the tertiary one). The only exceptions were special ops based Spartans like Grey and Black teams or washouts that couldn't be deployed alongside the general Spartan population like Red or (presumably) Omega teams from Halo Wars.

A part of the use of small Spartan teams is due to the fact they aren’t just a frontline battle force, they work where needed in recon, assassination, sabotage, and naval situations. These varying roles would benefit greatly from a group with deep knowledge and experience with each other, making keeping them together effective, and the small size allows for an appropriate use of force without large consolidation, in most situations 3-6 Spartans will be enough for their objectives, and if they need more it’s easier to bring another small fireteam in than pull a large group that is needed elsewhere to you just for that amount of soldiers

38:25 as far as images of Johns face go thats approximately consistent with the shot of his eyes in Halo 4 albeit in that scene he was much paler because of all the time he'd spent without sunlight. Thematically I can certainly see his taking off his helmet as to display his humanity to an enemy in order to deescalate a situation, displaying his surprisingly diplomatic nature. Indeed this is a running theme with his character in much of the halo expanded universe, that his spartan brainwashing and all the other cruelty he's been subjected to to make him a killing machine and tool of oppression for the outer colonies is frequently in conflict with his more merciful and protective disposition. However if this is just the first episode I would prefer they had left such a momentous occasion till a later point since that would build a bit of curiosity as to what he looked like in the first time viewer as well as the long time halo fan.

One of the most egregious things about this show is its total and complete contempt for the Covenant. I get that in the Silver timeline, the human-covenant war is more of a secondary border skirmish than total war of genocidal annihilation (at least as presented) but they show goes out of its way to trivialize, nerf, and strip away all of the interesting things about the covenant, and it's really quite jarring to see how different they are portrayed especially in fight scenes. In even the games, elites are almost always your biggest threat. They'll hijack vehicles and turn their weapons on you, flank and use cover, deploy active camouflage, rush you with energy swords when you reload, and will kill the player very quickly in close range. In novels, this is further backed up. In the show, even though they steamroll the innies initially...nothing about them is right. They're hulking brutes instead of sleek and taught-muscled. They use no tactics and grunt like animals instead of speaking more recognizable sangheli, and their armor is muted and matte compared to the glossy, iconic look in game. Yes, just because it's different doesn't mean its worse, but in this case, it really seems like they went over the elites and changed everything to be as generic and uninspired as possible. They turned the elites from a vicious and intelligent foe to generic alien bad guys that would not be out of place in any generic sci fi movie or TV show who are just there to get gunned down by our heroes. This is also a massive thematic diversion as the elites were the central cause of the covenant schism, and their culture and story was so prevalent in the original games. Just a massive downgrade across the board.

But I guess instead of showing the effects the war and his armor has on him they needed to make him conventionally attractive so he could have a sex scene with the female arbiter.

Also, I feel that we've already proven that we don't need characters to show their faces for the audience to connect with them. Movies like Dred, shows like The Mandalorian, and heck even the Halo games this show was based on had us connect to characters whose faces were barely, if at all, seen.
Of course the problem with that is the writing needs to hold up the character so that's out for this show.

I'm not a gun person, but I'm pretty sure the caliber of a gun is not the main thing, or at least not the only thing that affects its range or stopping power. Rifling matters, as does the concentration and quality of gunpowder. And as the fellow above me pointed out, the halo AR is some kind of futuristic supergun while these militia are using what are, at best, a hypothetical future kalashnikov they probably stole off the back of a truck. AKs are fine in the modern era, but there's only so far you can push a rifle design.
