there were actually people who complained she was 'over acting' and it's like really? I follow true crime stuff enough to know how hysterical parents of missing children can get, with very good reason. It's overwhelming knowing your child is in danger and there's basically nothing you can do about it because you don't even know where they are

The shocking part of their DnD game is not that it took 10+ hours to play, but that it took only two weeks of planning lmao
To be fair: A "campaign" that takes 10 hours and 20 minutes to finish doesn't take more than two weeks to plan.
I have once spent 45 minutes arguing with my party whether we should open a door or not.
I want to commend Will for not falling victim to any of the classic horror movie tropes(looking back too much at what's chasing you, tripping on air, etc). That boy ran all the way to his house. And when he saw that no one was there, he immediately ran to the shed to get a shotgun. His survival instincts are peak.
All Barb wanted to do was comfort her friend and as a result, she gets kidnapped by a strange creature. So sad.
I respect Joyce though. Willing to do anything for her boy, no matter the cost. She's such a good mother.
Poor Mike too. He's been trying to get his best friend back. His little heart probably shattered into a million pieces.

Absolutely agree. This was the 80s she was for sure slut shaming her friend (which is sad because Steve never alienated Barb from Nancy, he’s always very friendly).
I love how good a cop Hopper actually is. He is broken and scarred for life, but his instincts are still great.
One of the best subversions in the season, seeing him episode one and groaning "oh no, THIS is our sheriff? The boy's screwed!" Only for him to almost immediately start putting pieces together once he's out in the field. It was a nice surprise.

Season 1 and 4 are the two peaks of horror in the series, but still vastly different, season 1 is more of the mysterious monster horror, where you get glimpses of one terrifying creature, while season 4 relys more on body horror which is top notch due to the budget, I think the mystery gets to me far more than the body horror, probably because I read stuff like Berserk (manga).

I was basically the same age as these kids in the 80's... and let me tell you... this show has EVERYTHING RIGHT!! Minus the monsters... this was exactly what it was like being their age in the 80's! :) Takes me back!! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!

@@thestairguy lol exactly. My parents let me walk home over a mile from Elementary school every day. There was a bus, but it took longer than I did walking, and I knew a few shortcuts (one of which involved some Frogger action on the highway) so I would just race the bus home

I agree with you that Winona Rider's performance in this season is underrated. It's mocked so much online, but I don't know why. It feels so real and she's integrated herself masterfully.
I've literally never heard a negative word about her performance. I'm glad I must be hanging out in different parts of the Internet. 😆
I don't see anyone mocking her performance tho, I've seen a lot who's literally praising her. If anything it was the character's decisions that's getting questioned quite a bit at first for some people until they continued and turns out that she was actually right.
I'm seventeen minutes in, and so far Nat is physically injured and crying. This reaction is gonna be great. 😄

Nat; most D&D campaigns are hundreds of hours long. You can play the same character for years if you meet weekly; which we usually do. You can spend ten hours in one encounter.

I've been playing since 1976 and DMing since around 1982, and I regularly hosted marathon gaming sessions that would start on Friday afternoon, and run until Sunday evenings (sometimes people would sleep.).
It's great watching Millie get better every season. Millie carries this series on her back every season.

I don't know man, we're sympathetic to Jon because the show is structured to make us that way, but from Steve & co's perspective, given his genuinely stalkerish behavior, I'd say breaking his camera counts as letting him off with a pretty reasonable warning. If I thought someone had snuck onto my property to point a zoom lens at my windows while I was having sex with my partner, I'd want that person arrested and indicted, and I would not be very interested in hearing about what a sweet shy boy he really is deep down.
That's literally my thoughts! So many people were hating on Steve in Season 1 while I understood where he was coming from. I honestly despised Jonathan, he's a good brother but that's literally it.

Season 1 was definitely the most mysterious, and season 2 and 3 had a hard time topping that. But they still had great moments and great character development that kept me invested. Season 4 plays much more into the horror aspect, but damn, the writing is so good, the characters are just iconic and great, the cinematography is top notch, and the music well chosen and unforgettable. This series has been a favorite of mine since the beginning. I envy Nat not having to wait between seasons. Waiting for two years for Season 4 was painful, but well worth it.
This series is completely magical and I love that you are getting into it. I was skeptical because of the hype as well, but was pleasantly surprised. You can tell that Netflix actually cares about this series.
As a pure '80s kid, this show hits home in so so many ways.

I love horror movies/shows, but they almost never actually scare me. I just dig the vibes and atmosphere. The first season of this show was special because I binged at during a really rough time in my life and it was a wonderful escape.
Heck yeah! Ever since season 4 ended I've been living for new fans just starting the series. Brad Evans has been going through the seasons (he's midway through season 3 by now) and it's delightful to rewatch it all. Can't wait to see how you get into it Natalie!

Does season 4 get better? I thought season 1 ended perfectly, then season 2 was a bit forced but generally okay. Season 3 felt REALLY forced to exist and I just didn't care at all about any of the russian stuff so I stopped watching halfway through.

I still struggle to understand why I like this first season so much, something to do with the blend of characters and how they are all allowed to breathe and develop. It's not really a 'scary' show although a bit creepy at times. Glad you enjoyed it.

You’re in for a blast, s4 is truly epic. Best directed and best cinematography the show has had by a pretty sizable margin. The budget is like 300million for the season as well and it really shows because all the VFX looks amazing and all the different real locations they shot at etc. you and your daughter should have a blast, it also has a lot more horror aspects than any of the other seasons. It’s a really great experience.

I started the show as soon as it aired because you know, Winona, but damn, this whole cast is great! Season 1 is absolutely awesome. Winona really embodies how desperate a mom looking for her kid will get.

I can't wait for this! I am a latecomer to the series myself. I just finished out Season 2, and the S2 finale is maybe one of the most satisfying, beautiful, best-acted and best-made pieces of TV I've ever seen. I am enjoying this show far more than I ever thought I would, even as an oldie with very deep childhood memories of the period and world it's set in.
Ohh just keep going dude. It only gets better. Especially season 4. They really up their game in that season.

Stranger Things really is a terrific show! So nostalgic. It has so many throw backs & easter eggs to the movies that made the 80s what it was. And the music is great! It dipped a little bit in season 3 (for me personally), although I still enjoyed it. But season 4 is on a complete other level of quality and awesomeness! Can't wait to see Nat's reaction to it!

I get it, I put off watching this show for 2 years because I thought it was just straight horror and I had zero interest in that. I was so surprised to find it funny and nostalgic as well, and by the time I finished season one it was my favorite show (at that time-now it’s my 3rd favorite). Season 2 is even better in my opinion, so stick with it! A lot of your questions will be answered eventually. I really enjoyed watching along with you and I love that you sympathize with Joyce so much! Her character really is going through such a nightmare.

This series is pure nostalgia for me. I was born in the 80's, I live in Indiana, and I love d&d so it feels close to my heart. Don't worry about getting into the trend late. I didn't start the series until the beginning of this month.
I just finished watching Stranger Things a week ago. For me it was so much scary as it was suspenseful. The soundtrack is awesome, especially if you love 80’s music.

Love this series. Being in my 30s, it was very nostalgic, especially season 3. I wouldn't consider it horror like Friday the 13th or things like that.
The term is "Anemoia". Basically nostalgia for a time or thing you never actually experienced.

Best season imo. Perfect amount of 80's feel without it being overzealous. The monster and other stuff is still quite a mystery. And it has a more gritty feel like it's still the real world.

Fantastic Nat. I think you'll enjoy it. For people of a certain generation, this show is amazingly nostalgic. I was exactly the same age as the 4 main kids at exactly that time setting, and it's incredibly accurate. Really great fun show.

Stranger Things has been changed on Netflix from its original release - originally when Jonathan is taking photos of the other kids at the party, he sees Nancy and Steve through the window and then takes pictures of them too. But now that's been cut to make him seem a little less creepy.

On July 1st of this summer I watched my first ever episode of Stranger Things. I binged the whole series in 3 days. I’m ashamed I slept on this magnificent series this long. It’s just great storytelling and really great chemistry among the actors. I think you will love it! Stick with it, it just gets better and better.

Took me a while to watch this as well but I'm so glad I did. Its not perfect and has its flaws but the story is amazing. The way it drives the characters and the emotions of the audience.
What is even perfect in this reality lol, just pointless to ever say something is not perfect.
@@Niikkos perfect is subjective. It means without flaw. However some people may see somethings as flawed while others do not. To me, and its just my opinion of course, this shows has some big flaws for me but said flaws aren't relevant to the story so I love this show season 4 was the best and I'm stoked for the 5th and final season to air.

Fair warning though S2 is a bit underwhelming, but it gets better after that (especially the newest one which I believe is the best).

As a Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast, yes games can take 10+ hours (and usually do). We just usually don't do it all in one session. Three or four hours is usually enough for a satisfying 'act' of a story.
Also there's a fringe fan theory that the reason Barb is acting weird towards Nancy is because she's secretly gay and is feeling jealous (and concerned) that's she's spending so much time with Steve. Not a huge amount of evidence and it'll never be confirmed either way, but it is an interesting interpretation.
Stranger Things is easily in my top five favorite tv shows and I am so excited for you to finally watch it - and even more excited for you to meet Max (she is easily one of my favorite character) in season two! The whole cast are so amazing at what they do and I love how well the Duffer Brothers have done with this show
