      @@RSBurgener That's actually a very effective way of conveying just how strong and experienced Astartes are supposed to be, it's not that scout work is meant to kill them to diminish the number of recruits, but more like if they were even good candidates for becoming Astartes, to begin with, this is the kind of standard that is expected of them. They're basically saying that every Astartes should be able to survive with minimal gear and armor, relying on tactics, strategy and organization rather than raw power.

      Look up the Roman 'maniple' battle system. The scouts are there to tie up and tire out the enemy force so the more elite infantry can come and clean up while suffering minimal losses. Very flavorful for Ultramarines at least...

    I was tempted to start a Imperial knight army after I built my Canes Rex. Then I looked over my Tanks collection and just put together an Iron Storm list with Dreadnoughts, Techmarines and Rex as an Ally. Close enough and worked like a Charm...plus the Redemptors and Brutalis looking so much better these den Amigers. Techmarines are rly powerful.

      I bought 3 boxes, then they moved them to legends, I play plenty of legends games though so not the worst ever (cough sonic dreadnought/helbrute cough)

      @@SoulCrusherEx I used to take tanks out all the time. I ran them as Blood Ravens (I think it was in 5th edition?) and they could stealth deploy at different parts of the map.

      I own 30 scouts with sniper rifles, off to 30k they go.
      I also own another 30 or so of various pursuasions.
      Back in 3rd I took them with shotguns and as a Blood Angels player I didn't need my required troops being randomly poached by a Chaplain.

      Everyone has a little chuckle when I sit my turrets down like they're a little meme unit. Then I las them in overwatch on 4+ and a reroll on the oath target if lucky. They soon learn to hate them 😂

      So I play blood angels, the LAG detachment has advance shoot and charge. That on average is a 12” threat range with a T6 2+ big guns never tire. Is this the best use of the strat? Probably not, but man would it be funny

      It just doesn't play into how comp 40k sets itself out, which is sadly all GW can do for 40k.
      It's good FUN in casual games, but GW doesn't like fun or casual games.

      ​@CuriousLumenwood the issue with stormlance isn't the rules, it's model synergy. There aren't enough mounted units and land speeders just can't squeeze enough out of the detachment.

    for vanguard...
    what about making a shooting heavy list with 3 squads of scouts to jump around, infiltrate for objectives and general OC. 6 inceptors to drop and contest objectives - pull them back into reseverves for 1 cp
    Then have incursors with a phobos librarian infiltrate with the enhancement and buff+1 to hit for the artillery
    stormspeeder thunderstrike shooting for +1 to wound
    rest of the list is shooting, pew pew, boom boom

    Redeemer has been MVP in kills everytime I use it... especially with its Overwatch threat, and payload of 6 Aggressors and Biologis combo.... holds and defends objectives super well and diverts your opponent's focus away from what is waiting in Deepstrike or covering as the slower units advance up the board. Definitely one of my fav combos!

    My Ultramarines Gladius list never leaves home without my Captain, a Fire Discipline Lieutenant, and 10 Sternguard. Slap Devvy Doctrine on (multiple times if need be), Storm of Fire the nearest close range target and just melt any heavy infantry.

      @@zachhowe98 onder the transports page17 subheading embark: unkess otherwise stated, units cannot do anything or be affected in any way while they are embarked. so if he's emabarked bfore the game starts he cant use the nominate an objective rule at the start of game

    Just a thought because I am testing it, a full brick of reivers with grav-chutes led by the phobos lieutenant (the normal one...the one with the combi...the one without the skull mask as well...the one with 2 knifes!) taking their carbines for Gladius. While not an omega level damage unit, it is 20 shots out to 24" for a unit that can deep strike baked in with no further support and gimmicks required. Precision also enables utility in being able to focus all of that firepower into a character hiding within a unit that you want dead which may be conferring powerful buffs that make the unit harder to handle.
    Also, that lieutenants secondary buff is a "shoot and scoot" ability that moves the unit D6" which is really nice, but the real kicker is that it DOESN'T stop you charging. You could deep strike that squad in, fire at a unit, scoot D6" towards the unit you stayed just out of 9" from and now at Minimum you have turned a 9" charge into a 8" charge, with the average being about a 6" charge. Quite powerful to be able to consistently threaten a homefield holding unit, and does actually mean if the unit can deep strike outside of a denial aura (like infiltrators), you can always go for the hail mary charge even on a bad scoot roll when normally that unit may be unasailable.

      Throw them into liberator assault group.
      More attacks and more strength, spend cp if you feel they need it.
      Its basically a 3d6 deepstrike charge unit thatll really tie up a backline unit.

      Cute until you realize there's no ap on any of the weapons aside from the pistols on the reivers, and it's all str 4 and likely to bounce depending on the character.

      If you're fighting against something like demons sure, you'll maybe kill 4 or 5 bloodletters. If you're against marines you'll maybe kill 1-2 at best. They just don't kill anything, the only way to get any use out of them is with stuff which increases AP, and by that point any other unit does the job better

    the problem with this kind of videos is that, GW almost never buff units or change it's rules so, the outcome would be nerf those good units, 10th has been overall terrible at internal balance (beyond points). At this point people is only using 33% of codex SM because the remaining units were nerfed or never did anything valuable (even if they drop points). So, another nerf is coming and SM would become even more spam of the same few remaining units.

      Divergent chapters are the bigger issue imo. Take away the Space Marine Codex Chapters from those and things can be balanced better imo.

    Scouts, I always run 1x Missile, 1x sniper, 1x shotgun (because he is eligible to shoot after advancing so lets squad perform some tasks), and the rest with sword

    Interesting that when I take tough and punchy stuff, they tend to die round 1 or 2 and when I take more or less expendable things like scouts or combi-lieutenant they last all game

    i really wish they'd un-nerf ironstorm, for me at least it just killed any desire to play it after the strat nerf, i was even fine with the enhancement nerfs even if imo they need to be way cheaper now.

    Im not a fan of gravis, thematically as i love tacticus, artificer and terminator armour however aggressors are simply fantastic. My 3 always put work in, now imagine 6 with a gravis captain

    I woke my roommate up when I laughed at the Eradicators. Sure they're good units...but Drukhari Scourges can take 4 Melta weapons/squad and have St14 Ap-4 at the same range and melta(2) with better movement.

    The librarian + infiltrators combo is absolutely lethal against grey knights - I run dark angels and try to play thematic lists over optimal lists , but one day I felt tired of losing to my buddy’s grey knights so I countered as hard as possible. The screen keeping my deployment zone (on hammer and anvil) safe allowed a firestrike servo turret finish off a dreadknight on overwatch. I just threw it in as a meme pick since my “theme” was vehicles and deep strike denial…

    How would one really know if the SM's really needs a power-boost or not tbh? If most competitive players will sort of always jump ship to the most viable of the non-compliant chapters and most new players to the game picking SM's more often than not, their win-rate is sort of forever doomed to be very hard to sort of get a good and truly representative read on I think. I think that if it ever came close to 50%, then that should ring some alarm bells in some ways. That being said though, it should be good enough that it is tempting for a fair section of the overall SM player base ideally speaking.

      I think the vanilla space marines could use some buffs only to them and not applicable for the named chapters. In general they've felt ok in my local area though.

      @@jameskurth3560 as a CSM main, there is a lot in the SM roster that I look at and just drool at, but CSM also have their own things for sure. What annoys the hell out of me is that the CSM needs EPIC characters to access rules that are commonly available to some generic SM characters and datasheets. 😛

      @@runeh3022 I'd like to see less epic characters in general. To be fair I've lost more vs the same vanilla space marines than any other faction. A move'shoot'move list with lots of phobos units. He could run the same thing as any chapter though and add to it. He's allergic to painting them as a chapter though. Neither of us handle close combat well at least. Hopefully my guard and eldar get decent codices.

      He's referring to the Lieutenant, who also gives Lethal Hits to a unit and can be used for the Fire Discipline combo, whereas you'd want a Biologis for doing it on Gravis units

      No because azrael already has sustained, you can put azrael on something else if you like but don’t use fire discipline + azrael it’s not worth it

    Can someone explain to me how Calgar's Honour Guard can tank shots for the Aggresors that Calgar is attached to? At my FLGS they insist damage is assigned to the bodyguard unit first, which is the Aggresors, not the Honour Guard. Is there an FAQ somewhere that explains this?

      It's the difference between Character Model and Character Unit. The Honor Guard models don't have the character keyword, only Calgar does. When you pick a model to take saves, the wording is you can't pick Character models while Bodyguard models are still alive. Which means if no one in the unit is currently injured you get to choose between Agressors or Honor Guard to take a save.
      Astra Militarum Command Squads and Chaos Dark Communes do the same thing. Everyone except the Officer/Demagogue isn't a Character, so can be killed before any normal bodyguards if you wanted to for some reason.

      the honor guard do not have the 'character' keyword, and as such are a PART of the bodyguard unit, and therefore you can select for them to take damage before the aggressors, just like any other unit.

    Scouts are preposterously good for the points. Relatively durable, excellent abilities, super versatile, a few very admirable weapon options. If Marines had a better overall winrate, GW could easily up these to 75 points and they'd still be fine.

      After, because if you and your opponent both have scout, the player with first turn does scout moves first

    This edition sacrificed too much on competitive thematic list building thanks to the absence of any Army building rules. Instead we see a lot of factions using units in detachments that you normally wouldn't see, big stompy Centurions and Terminators in a Vanguard Detachment.
    A Competitive Necron detachment that barely uses any Battleline infantry and instead spams as many vehicles and/or mutiple C'tan with a few cheap action mobnbkeys which makes no sense.
    I hate how Librariabs are designed now with only having access to Smite. If choosing 1-2 Powers out of a reduces list of 4 is too complicated, than maybe GW should double check its player base. Same with Cryptek Arkana. GW came up with a cool idea that gave Crypteks their own sort of Tech spells for the cost of most enhancements and then they totally ditched the idea after 1 single edition.
    I'm scvrataching my gead at a lot of the new design changes, especially after reading the rules for AoS 4.0 (Mostly based around rules for listing building and picking subfactions which I sorely miss from 9th edition.) Maybe its too hard to pull off because of all the data sheets they sent to Legends this edition and it just happen I own the two factions that lost the most units/characters to legends this edition. I'm not salty my Necrons out of the 5 detachments have 1 go to detachment that doesn't feel like I'm playing a Necron Army.
    Luckily I can still fall back on Awakened Dynasty, but I guess GW is going to ignore the blatant issues with Annihilation Legion and the Obeisance Phalanx Detachments which have intriguing playstyles, but th Codex has a lot of bad Internal Balance, like the inability to viably take Praetorians in a detachment that contains several strats and a detachment ability that incentives you to take a few units at 240, but then when you look at Chaos Space Marines, their Warp Talons went up to 270 points which is just ridiculous. This includes a lot of their elite troops having received huge points increases when taken in units of 10 such as Possessed coming in at 250 points and having their Devasting Wounds activate whenever they successfully make a Dark Pact.
    They did the same with Chosen with a unit of 10 also costing you 250 points.
    Luckily 10 Raptors are only 180 and can attach a unique hero to them.
    Legionnaires also went up, but they are still affordable at 180 for 10, which is where you will likely see generic heroes to access enhancements. I was thinking about breaking up 2 units of Havocs and using them as the Legionaries Heavy Weapon options for every 5 Models in the unit which they can loadup the entire unit in a Rhino and Fire their Lascanons or whatever you chose.
    Its not a good sign when players are still using their Index and have anxiety about receiving their eventual Codex after witnessing other factions experiencing a lot of negative changes which include losing 2-5 Data sheets to Legends, points increases that are significantly higher than their index versions, and then there is the drama of wondering how many detachments will be in their Codex...will it be 8 like Orks and Chaos Marines?? Or will it be 4 like Sisters of Battle?? Or how about a random number of 5 like Necrons which GW initially stated that each detachment would represent a playstyle based on a pre-existing subfaction or Dynasty which should have put Necrons at 6 detachments.
    GW has lost the ability to create a game that can be competitive while also maintaining faction identity, an army building system that only contains 1 rule, spend 2000 points on any units you have and place them in any detachment whether it goes against faction lore or moving stories and plot lines which we will probably never see the end of.
    At least restrict certain unit keywords where it makes sense uwhen using certain detachments, and for the love of God give Codex Compliant Space Marine Chapters a bone, especially Chapters that only contain 1-2 Epic Heroes...I can feel their pain.
    This is why subfaction traits should have never been completely gone away. Tone them down depending on how weak or Strong the Chapter is. Ultramarines for example are fine with access to all the powerful characters they have plus a Primarch. White Scars need something strong, maybe if they choose Stormlance? Give them access to a few free enhancements or increase the base move of all their Mounted and Vehicle units so they are permanently higher than other Chapters.
    All I can say is that I hope GW announced there would be no more new Codex launches this year because they are reviewing a lot of their prior life choices when they designed 10th edition. They somehow dumbed down certain aspects like " You no pick Psychic Powers from a list, You just get 1 based on the Librarians' armor type". Then they messed around with Fly and now we all have to count diagonal inches to hop over a 5" Wall and another 5" to diagonally fly down.
    Hello!! Kill Team!! How about that new Launch Box with the Imperial Soldiers with Grav Chutes and the new amazing Vespid Sculpts. Seriously, a lot of awesome changes especially to Space Marines by combining Interecession with Task Force Justinian which creates a Kill Team of Space Marines that can shoot or fight twice and can include a Captain, Heavy Intercessors, Eliminators, in addition to the normal Intercessors which hopefully an still take a grenade launcher. Its been confirmed they can still pick 2 chapter tactics...

      Heavy intercessors are, they're in gravis, which is t6 armour. Normal intercessors are t4

      Why? It's the only chance SMs have of reliably screening their own deployment zone, especially now that everyone but Codex Marines seems to be able to pop a strat and deep strike 3 inches away with any unit these days, whereas Inceptors got hiked into absurdity for the ability to do the same thing (and then die immediately). What an awful take lmao
