I feel like Avery Brooks absolutely relished every chance he had to portray Sisko acting like a cartoon come to life, and we should all be thankful for it.
Definitely in you can see that he had way too much fun everytime he had an excuse to ham it up. As the Dr.No parody in Our Man Bashir and that one time he was in klingon makeup.
He doesn't really act anymore, so seeing him on screen is a finite resource, sadly. And I'm not entirely sure that Avery Brooks isn't just another Capt. Benjamin Lafayette Sisko character, like Benny Russell.

Those tight, plosive consonants and crisp diction is from what happens when a brilliant musician turns ability and puts in years of hard work and training to become a theatrical performer. Shatner, Stewart, Spiner, Brooks, Auberjenois, Hertzler, Mulgrew and Bakula all had strong theatrical training and experience. Gravitas is a hallmark of their performances.

Am I the only one who doesn't see what's wrong with many of these scenes? The entire last third is from an episode where he was under mind control and acting like someone else.
Avery's acting starts terrible in DS9 with the very hammy acted death scene of his wife (Somebody help meeeeeee) then becomes bearable towards the middle then trails off again at the end of the later seasons. The other characters and the writing of eps save DS9 and although I do like TNG I do prefer DS9 the crew of TNG can be a bit too goody two shoes for me at times.
How can he be so eccentric and so stoic at the same time
he's actually restraining his pimp hand
Just see him in william shatner captain documentary, I am not sure but looks like he was high.
His own brand of stoicism, not being faced by anything, and so being comfortable animating himself any way he likes to emphasise ye lack of sh-ts that he gives.
My friend can do this. He also happens to be a fit black dude, and like Sisko, as soon as he went bald, his threat factor multiplied by 10, lmao.
1:28
Lol why the HELL did he randomly wink at this dude, then abruptly remembers he's on the clock 😂😂

Let's just say that Mr. Brooks loved a slice of ham.

Imagine you're an admiral watching Sisko's log entries and eventually he starts acting like that.
In The Pale Moonlight, he thought he was recording, when in fact he was live streaming...
Oops
He is normal though. These are the verbal quirks and flourishes that real-life people have and I love that he gives them to Sisko. Absolute king.
Another reason why Sisko feels the most like a real person out of all the captains.
When I ask someone if Sisko is the best captain and they don't respond right away:

Avery Brooks owned this character. This show was full of character that's why I loved it so much.
Sisko wins 'most eccentric' Captain for sure.
Is anyone else a little terrified by Sisko Smiling?
Death glare is the warning you need to take. The smile is when the fun begins. Nor for you, but for Sisko
When he's romantically interested in someone he smiles like he's imagining how their head would look mounted on his wall.
that enunciation! *chef's kiss* a master of elocution!!
one-rakta-jino-with-a-jacarine PEEL 👌🏿
2:31 It's a wonder Avery didn't blow out the audio equipment here.
i love him so much. hes fucking insane
Best decision sisko made was growing that badass beard/goatee
That beach outfit looked freaking tight.
OWWW!
I just watched the first episode of ds9 for the first time. My god somebody put a rizztraining order on him.
Sisko freakin rules
1:49 lmao, how did I never notice this before?
hah! yeah, I and I just watched the episode again a few days ago and still missed it lol

Major Kira being so done with that place broke me the 1st time i watched that episode,
How is bro's B and P bass boosted 😭😭😭

LMAO😅. WHY TF DID HE WINK AT HIM😂😂!? Then proceeded to just go robot mode, BACCK TO WORK 😂
“Captain’s a psycho..” is what what nobody ever said in the series, but should have.
Ben Sisko is like James T Kirk being channeled through Mr. T.
Only Avery Brooks could have done that.
Well more like Hawk from Spenser for Hire
Does anyone else feel like putting a conga beat to Alamarain?
I miss Sisko! He put the Umph in Start Trek Captain.
3:00 Avery Brooks's plosives were always S-Tier
hey the clock thing is not fair. He was not himself
And still, it tells you everything you need to know about him xD
What's wrong with that Odo? A little romance... [zooms into the face and then the eyes!]
Possibly the best iteration of Star Trek. Certainly my favorite, but top three for sure.
p....P......BUTT! Hilarious!
Now consider that he would have had to do the exact same thing on multiple takes...
Dramatis personae is a gold mine for this
And this was only from when his hair kept him in check…

This is important
Yep, seems totally normal to me😂
this is hilarious. thanks

Avery Brooks bad acting was probably the single biggest turn off for me to DS9. So fucking cringe. More wooden than Pinocchio.
