Back when fashion shows were about great CLOTHES... and the models sure knew how to show them.... and WHAT models!!! I see Jerry Hall, Kirat, Dalma, Alva Chinn, Marie Helvin, and lots of other big runway models from the 70's. What a vintage runway gem... more please!!!! (I would love to see Spring 1983!)
The designs were very ahead of the times considering it looks fabulously 80s and it’s a Spring 1979 collection. Still classy and timeless in its elegance.
I love the way these ladies walk, stride. The absolute summum of grace, elegance and joy. They would actually give you a smile from time to time. Nowadays its just stamping with their feet on the catwalk, an unsatisfied or even grumpy look on their face. True sense of grace, beauty and style is still not for sale. You are born with it or not. These ladies could wear a potatobag and still look like a queen.
For those wondering the show was in the Fall of 1978, buyers see the clothes a season before they are released. Yes these clothes fit very well in 1985-86 than what people were actually wearing in 1978 , so Oscar was almost 10 years ahead of mainstream fashion.
Cat would also take me to fashion shows like these! Miss these days & going to the sewing stores to flick threw all the different patterns of world-class fashion designers!! 💘
Definitely seeing signs of the Glam to come in the 80's. But the dresses themselves were so restrained but lovely. I guess that's why this became office fashion.
March Madness 2020 Corona Virus and I would loved to enter into a Time Machine to zoomed me out of the 21st Century🤦🏾♀️ I grew up as a little girl, during that fabulous 1970s Decade and I've always loved Glamorous Fashion🙋🏾♀️ Mr.Oscar is one of my favorite Designers his Fashion Runway Shows were Elegant. I love the Elegant,Glamorous and Feminine Wardrobes from that 70s Decade. The Models were always Superb from their Sophisticated & Feminine Runway Walk and the Glamorous one of a kind Wardrobe Attire 🌹Fast forwarded towards our time now the 21st Century and his 1979 Runway Collection could be worn today. This is the 21st Century that really needs the Elegant & Fashionable Attire.
Damn! This reminds.me.so much.of my late.fostermom, the one & only beautiful Ms. Catherine " Cat" Briggs!! Cat was a fantastically talented & gifted seamstress!! She was a businesswoman ( owned her own sportswear & seat.cushion companies & sewed her family's clothes)! Love & miss you, Cat! 🐱
When the models were in their late 20's, had a semi normal figure and they looks like they had actually fun. Wish the shows were still this this way but they are the complete opposite now a day's.
Considering the poorly planned and ridiculously tight runway space these models were fantastic. Shame on whoever planned the venue as it was horrible considering it's Oscar De La Renta ! Billie Blair rocked !!!
This is to typical of the trends introduced during the previous fall '78 collections, looks presented across the fashion world that season: the broad, padded shoulders that would characterize the eighties, the tilted forties-fifties-style hats, the narrow skirts, the fifties-style pumps, all considered revival styles at the time. This is not a criticism, just a reminder that designers just join in with the trends of the time and are rarely innovators (especially during this period, when looks like this, classic as they seem to us today, were called "retro").
I was nine when this show came out. Even then I knew what fabulous was. This is it! WOW! Women don't dress like this anymore and it's disgusting they choose Lululemon over gorgeous clothes.
I've chosen to watch this as I'm born in 1979 and wondered what was like in that year. I must say I didn't like those clothes at all and for those who say they are still wearable today, I want to see who would wear those kind of pink pants. What I liked most was the smiles and nice walk that the models did which you can hardly see in today's runways.
Love how the models smile & make eye contact with the audience!
i'm getting so much seretonin from watching this that i'm quite literally crying tears
what a classic show these clothes can be worn today.
So true ! Classic and so elegant, the fashion and the models.
My thoughts exactly!
Timeless. Yes they can

They do what they are told
tie grumpy ness is a back lash to the supermodel era.
I love the music. It reminds me of growing up as a kid in the 70's and the same music playing in department stores.
probably not the music they used for copyright
one could say this fashion show, on its own, set the tone for the entirety of 80s fashion

@@lastdays3148 Wasn't he Rob Yoh?
@@robertoligresti8777 Who cares who he is? How rude to walking runway as the show begins. Oscar should have beat him with a shoe heel. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The model wearing the yellow dress at 12:28 had a little round tummy.
Probably pregnant.
💞💞💞💞 Classic
This is what models should look like and how they should move. Also, clothes should be elegant and fitted.
Take a shot everytime the model twirl 🤣🤣🤣
Wonder if this was at Oscar DeLa Rentas showroom...
