In the 9th grade, my brother had a rock band and they were playing a concert at school which was 9th and 10th grade. My other brother was in the jr high which was 7th and 8th. He wanted to hear the concert so my mom (yes. She could be cool!) wrote him a note to leave school for a dentist appt. But he got caught anyway! Lol! Then my brothers band dedicated the song “Smoking in the Boys’ Room” to the principal! It was an awesome time! The clothes were the coolest!!

What I loved most was the free spirit of that decade. People weren’t so stressed like today. Kids had more freedom. During the late 70s and the 80s I could leave with my bike in the morning and return in the evening and nobody worried. Nowadays children can’t even leave their driveway or their parents get frantic. Painter pants, 'earth shoes' and turtle necks were my middle school 'uniform'. Paisley polyester wide collar button ups were a big hit with the super cool dudes. I remember a cousin visiting us in mid 1970s and she was desperate to find slim ankle jeans. Boot cut was narrow as we could find which was a no go for her. Definitely rebellion against bell bottoms. Along with the very short shorts for running (brothers wore them) were white with top stripe knee high tube socks. You mentioned that in another video. Pant suits were popular for little girls too.

Most of us had "desert boots", gum soled swede leather with laces.
And on top usually a cool T-shirt (many times from a T-shirt shop with an iron-on picture on it) under an unbuttoned flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up to elbow.

I remember in the 70's when I was a young guy in my 20's I had a bad sunburn and wore a tank top to work at AT&T. I was told it was inappropriate and I had to put on a shirt , or go home. The manager of the department had several girls wearing Halter tops, but he didn't mind that ! (Especially since he was dating one) ! I went over his head and went to HIS BOSS who told him if he wanted ME to either change , or go home then he would have to ask all the girls wearing halter tops to DO THE SAME ! Needless to say, I never changed, or went home ! YAY for MEN'S RIGHTS !

shopping for clothes before the school year began ( mid-late 70's) was easy for me and my friends. We bought a few pairs of Levis and that just about did it. Of course it took a few months of washing them before they got really good and comfortable. Then the ultimate was when they began to fray (sp?) and holes started appearing in the knees. Some folks used patches, but most of us just left them alone. Finally... they would get so torn that we would get scissors and cut them in to shorts. No big fashion statement or anything. You just used stuff as long as you could. ".... and though you want them to last forever you know they never will... you know they never will. And the patches make the goodbye harder still." --- Cat Stevens

My Glory Days, the best time to be a teenager!!!! My favorite was the Maxi Jean jacket that was designed by me with embroidered colored floss flowers🥰

I was born in ‘79. I wore mood rings in the early ‘90s when they came around again. I probably still have one laying around and would wear one today. My best friend growing up and I would drive almost downtown to shop at the vintage and hippie stores here in Atlanta like The Junkman’s Daughter. There’s even a drive-in movie theater with a flea market near there.
I still love clogs & Birkenstocks. I wear tie-dye and peasant & crocheted blouses all the time. They’re just more flattering with my body type and height. I wish more companies would make 70s style lingerie still. Everything has so much wire and padding now.
I remember growing my bangs out so I could part my hair in the middle and I’ve kept that style. I guess I decided on the hippie look around age 14 and stuck with it.

Thank you for watching and sharing some of the fashions that you adorned. It sounds like you were born in the wrong time period.

I only had 3 of these tube top, mood ring, and corduroys, but at my school we also HAD to have Colorado hiking boots and painter pants that could only be bought from a store in the stockyards in OKC.

Best decade! Never forget the end of 75 when flared jeans/pants suddenly went out of fashion. By early 76 the straight legged jeans came in and you weren't seen dead in flares after that lol!

Fashioned be damned, the 1970's was a much better time than today's crazy, messed up world.

Oh how I remember GOGO Boots. I put on a pair of my moms when I was 12 and promptly fell down the steps and broke my arm. Sweet 70’s!

I don’t know how many times I tripped myself by getting my foot caught in those bell bottoms. I recently bought a pair of pajamas that ended up having bell bottom-ish pants. I still trip myself. lol
Halter tops, clogs, and maxi-dresses. 💕 I’ve never owned a caftan, but I still think they’re gorgeous.

I found a shearling jacket in a thrift store for 8 bucks about 3 years ago. Bought it! 😁
