I only wear dresses and skirts because they flatter my curves. I find them versatile: I pair dresses with biker jackets, light cardigans, longer unbuttoned tops, and silk scarves; boots, heels, sandals, ankle boots; I wear the back as front, add belts, put skirts over dresses (rendering the dress a top), add tights, etc. Most of these looks still work in summer. I'd love to see more dresses incorporated into your capsules... because, well, they're lovely!

I wear mostly dresses, so this one was perfect for me. I purchased nearly all of my wardrobe second hand, as that is the easiest way for me to shop responsibly. I am going on a cruise later this month and needed a formal dress, so I headed to my favorite consignment shop this morning. Not only did I find the perfect dress, brand new with tags, but I also managed to find a strapless bra to wear with it! Both fit perfectly, and the two items together cost less than $80. I didn’t actually have to pay for the items since I took clothes that I could no longer use with me, and received store credit for them. Thank you for inspiring me to seek out sustainable brands when I do need to shop retail.

I am an hourglass and mainly wear dresses and skirts and still only have two pairs of jeans. I started to dress heavily in dresses when my daughter was born, it was just easier with a baby, a dress is a full outfit it makes you look pulled together and I only had to add a necklace or earrings- that was my styling. I had three dresses from Baby Ceylon ( plus a pair of jeans, a skirt and a few tops- that was my capsule). I wore these in the daytime and for going out, I simply amped up the jewellery, added high heels and changed the bag. I also wore them all year around- in the summer with flip flops, in the autumn with opaque tights and a trench, in the winter with woolly tights and boots, a turtleneck under the dress, in the spring with fishnets and ballet flats. Almost 13 years later I still have these items, they have been dyed different colours ( I did that to cover stains) and I will have to cut one of the dresses down to a skirt.
I also have two other dresses at the moment that I can wear all year around and style the same way.
I also have two shirt dresses that I wear on top of other dresses either completely open or belted at the waist but the other dress still showing underneath. I also wear them over jeans.

Thank you so much! I NEVER wear pants, so this was a wonderful inspiring video. I use a variety of tops to layer under sleeveless dresses, or layer long kimonos/blazers over short dresses & wear light cardigans over long dresses (tying a basic white collared shirt to make dresses more casual and nip in the waist too). I refresh old dresses by shortening the hemline, cutting off sleeves or dye them a different color. 😃👗💃🏻

I like this one a lot. I‘m a fan of dresses, although I totally get your point about versatility. I never thought about it like that. But then, I never planned a wardrobe from scratch and considered, what a given amount of money could get me.
And, of course, Northern Germany has a very moderate climate, so dresses that go with both sandals and tights/boots/cardigans cover a lot of the year here. I‘ve found, that I actually need 3 different ‚types‘ of clothing. One main wardrobe for temperatures between 5 and 25 *C, which covers most of the year. And then ‚add ons‘ for freezing cold and really hot weeks...And those are the ones, I exchange in spring/autumn...my staple garments pretty much stay in place, year round.
I tried switching between a summer/winter wardrobe, but that just made me want to buy ‚doubles‘, of stuff that I already own.

I don't know though... I don't think dresses are less versatile at all. Versatility is not only about switching tops and bottoms to make new outfits. I have a dresses only wardrobe, and the climate here is from about -3° in winter and 35° in summer. My winter dresses are wool (a lovely natural and very warm material) with thick tights, a wool or down jacket, gloves, and boots. Very warm. And then for summer, you simply can't go wrong with a linen or cotton dress. There just isn't anything breezier and cooler. If you want more variety in summer, just thrift or make dresses, and you'll have enough to never to be bored (with it still being both affordable and sustainable). Your accessories really change the vibe and I haven't felt like anyone thinks my wardrobe is limited. Especially if you have a few basic style dresses, in simple colors, no one notices. I feel like it's the shoes or handbags that people seem to remember haha. And I play with my hair and earrings, so I have a lot of fun with those. And I have plenty of unique and interesting dresses too; ones for specific occasions. I just don't get bored. My wardrobe is a bit extreme because it's only dresses, but I think people shouldn't be scared of adding a few dresses as well. Honestly, I think Daria is a little caught up in the idea that you need to always swap tops and bottoms for it to be "fun" and "versatile"... It's the whole premise of her wardrobe style after all... But since pants and shirts look the best on her body type, she sticks to it. Don't get me wrong, I love her and learn from her. But I think the idea that other methods are limiting.. is actually a limiting believe in itself. Dresses are very versatile too.

I have several dresses. When I buy a dress, I look for versatility. Usually, lighter fabrics that are longer (at least half-way down the calf or ankle length), that button down or in some cases wrap dresses are what I find most useful. I wear them as dusters, tunics, and as dresses. I also look at button down mini-dresses as tunics. Since it is the outer layer, I look for a lighter crepe-like or cotton fabric. Sometimes, linen works. A sleeveless button down can be worn as a long vest. I also have dresses for special occasions....opera, theatre, weddings and other events. When I take ocean cruises, there is a dress code. I pack a couple of dresses....particularly if it is a button-down. I sometimes pack an evening gown...in a silk. Slip dresses are legendary pieces. Wear a top and they look like a skirt. Styling is key.

That would be nice, wouldn't it! I don't know about you, but usually jeans, & pants feel too warm, particularly if you're in the tropics with only fans. In the states, it's not so much of an issue because of air conditioning. I too would love to see a warm climate capsule that's not related to a vacation.

My whole wardrobe consists *only* of dresses. It might not be not as "versatile" in summer, but I'm still not bored. You can really play with accessories, hair, shoes and bags (which I love). And if you can make dresses (which is very easy), it's not only sustainable but *seriously* cheap (and I only buy sustainably sourced linen and cotton for summer dresses). So much more affordable than buying (although I do buy some things when it's too hard to make). But I'm below $600 with even more outfits than the example wardrobe. Not to mention the custom fit! It's also *much* easier and enjoyable to get dressed in the morning. I feel like I always used to waste hours (added together, maybe weeks and months of my life) getting frustrated trying to decide what to wear and match things.. 😩 (I do wear black trousers for work, as it's corporate, and I also have yoga pants for gym, and a spare pair of jeans if I ever would need them - have not yet lol). Highly recommend trying a dress only, or dress heavy, wardrobe if you like dresses.

I actually find dresses very versatile and a wonderful way to spice up even a small wardrobe. I also have a dress set that has buttons on the waist and can be used as a dress or a midi skirt and knoted top that I love!! One of the reasons I LOVE dresses is although I get your points about they not being son interchangeable as other pieces, and I wouldn't start with dresses if I was starting my wardrobe from scratch too, but what I love about dresses is that I feel that dresses are more intemporal and timeless than other pieces. Like coats too! I have dresses that have 20 years!!! And since they are not as worn as a pair of trousers for example they are in great shape and they always break the monotony of the closet. So if added with time through life I think dresses are a wonderful investment piece. Anyway, long comment when what I wanted to say is: ARE you EVEN human Daria 😀? This wonder wardrobe is Beautiful!!!! What a masterpiece. That striped sweater with the dress or the skirts. The cardigan. The different cuts on the dresses. Bravo!!! You SPOIL us! Thank you. ❤️

I am so happy you finally did one with skirts and dresses👗. YAY! I always wondered why you never did one before but I see now it is the money issue. I thought it was just me. You see 3 years ago I did a self assessment and realized I am the most happy with dresses and skirts. After 3 years of trying to find affordable dresses I gave up until I found a great second hand store. Then the closed😣. Even the most basic dress is expensive...at least for me. I went to skirts and blouses but skirts are hard to find for work and play. Ugh! Why is wanting skirts and dresses so hard in this day and age?! I feel I feel so alone...in a sea of pants👖☹

Yes i switched to an all dress and skirt wardrobe, but skirts are truly hard today find. I don't want a mini or midi. I just want plain aline or wrap skirts good for work and play. I don't know where to look I've looked many places.

I think dresses are very versatile. From wearing jackets/blazer over a dress, sweaters over and turtlenecks under, tucking them in to pants or wearing a skirt over them turning them into a shirt. It just depends on the season, type of dress material, and the length of the dress.

Packing away my tights and boots here in the DC area, and your dress capsule has inspired me! I keep to 32 pieces--8 "layers," 7 tops, 7 bottoms and 8 shoes (well, my half-dozen scarves count as one pair of shoes)--and usually only have 2 dresses, one solid and one print. But this time around I'm replacing one layer and one additional top and bottom with dresses, for a total of 5--feels exciting, especially because one is a lightweight denim jumpsuit! What's different from yours is that all my four dresses are rather eye-catching prints, because to me a dress is the perfect place to put a print or pattern that doesn't have to go with everything else (except a few neutral layers). Last thing: my very first go-to with that red-striped sweater would be over the navy dress! Surprised you didn't include that because of the fluttery sleeves & tie waist, but I woulda made that work. : ) Thanks, Daria!

I don’t always feel myself in overly feminine dresses, but I’m currently living in Australia and I’ve found dresses and skirts are the best way to deal with the heat in summer! Plus I also have the typical pear shape. So I’ve found a few items in a slightly simpler design which work for me with chunkier shoes and accessories to suit my style. Shirt and tee shirt dresses, slip style and a pinafore style midi dress work well for me especially as all of these look great layered in spring and autumn. And I love skirts with boots and chunky sweaters in winter. Thanks Daria! 💜

Loved it!!! I wear layers as you've shown plus, I wear different blazers (think freezing buildings over air conditioned), light weight wrap sweaters, mock turtlenecks, silk, satin, rayon or pashmina scarves. I also rotate different style shoes, for example: flats, sandals, pumps with the dresses, change up my make-up, hairstyle & watches.

Before learning about ethical fashion & sustainability, I bought a navy blue sleeveless v neck sheath dress about 6 years ago from a chain brand. Still have it & its versatility comes from being able to wear a range of tops & shirts under it, or cardigans and jackets over it, or scarves and jewellery - which changes the look of it every time. So a very plain dress can be extremely versatile in this way. My dress is fully lined so I hope I can make it last another 6 years 😊 If not longer!

Too many dresses to count!!! Partly because i run events, perform, etc. Since I live in Canada and summers in this area rarely get past 25 Celsius, I can layer bodysuits, t-shirts, tanks/camis, thin turtlenecks + leggings, pullovers, biker jackets, velvet blazers, menswear blazers, tights, and special boots much of the year. I also like to wear certain dresses as tunics over wide-leg pants or jeans, with a duster-length coat or sweater as well for a more boho romantic vibe. I wear most of my shirt-dresses as dusters over other outfits, especially over slip dresses and wide-leg trousers. I like a lot of high-low combos, like a fancy floral dress with black biker jacket, or prairie ruffles with sneakers. I actually find dresses more wearable & comfortable than the bulk of tucking blouses/camis/sweaters into skirt waistbands. Also, for hotter weather i like them better than shorts for coverage and temperature, because you can wear a light, long-sleeved midi dress to keep the sun off, but still be cool.

As a tall woman with a large bust but slim hips, i find it very difficult to find ready-made dresses which fit me and the proportions for seams, darts, etc are always out. I have to go up one or two sizes to accommodate my bust and then arms/shoulders are often too big. I would love to have a wardrobe full of flattering dresses but I tend to only wear dresses in hot weather when loose ones are appropriate and I care more about feeling cool than looking slim.

I have 3.. One is an 2-year old winter dress from zare that I've already worn a gadzillion times in all possible ways and am boring of. I plan to change it in a matching set. Another dress is an umpulse buy: it was, legitly, the first dress I ever tried on that gave me CURVES, but I realized I don't like the style as much so, same story, I plan to cut it up and change the bottom into a pencil skirt. The third is a dress I once bought for a wedding; it CAN be dressed casually, but it is quite loud (pin-up style with big colourful flower pattern on a white background) and, same thing here, very tired of it. I think I will dye it over with olive green, so that everything is a bit 'calmed down' but you can still see the flower pattern through vaguely, and eventually, again, change it into a matching set even though I will probably yse the skirt a lot more. A nice olive green flower print circle skirt, why not?
Long story short: dresses are not my thing, particularly summer dresses. They give very little versatility. It's just that: a dress. Throw a jacket or cardigan over but that's all. A matching set you can wear together so it looks like dress, but you can also recombine, like you pointed out in the video. I don't plan to buy any new dresses and if I do I will first do a big versatility and layering options check. Even for my prom that's in a small two months I plan to just buy a skirt and wear it with a blouse I already have (my school prom isn't hyperformal)

I love dresses and my wardrobe balance is more like this video (I'm a pear) but I've got a problem. I'm reluctant to wear my more elegant clothes on daily basis because I'm afraid to stain or tear them while going about my day with a toddler (we get messy). I end up wearing the same 2-3 shirts and jeans. Should I make a separate wardrobe for this? Or be more brave?

I’d say there’s no need to build 2 different wardrobes but you should think of how to make that t-short&jeans outfit more elegant so you feel like yourself.

Hello, Daria! Have you ever done an all jumsuit wardrobe? I recently counted my items and realized I have 14 jumpsuits and only about four jackets and three scarves. I never want for more, I save time dressing up and I can go wild in accesorizing. I have freedom of movenemt, I can ride my bike and I feel comfortable too. Have you ever considered trying this as a Womder Wardrobe? Best wishes, Lorelei

How about making a capsule with sleeveless dresses and blouses. Where I live in summer it is not possible to wear sleeves.
Needless to say, it is also difficult to wear pants better with shorts or skirts. All your tutorials are extremely interesting, Thank you very much.

I have three dresses, either midi or long, and I wear them with layers in cooler weather, or with different belts, scarves, or shoes. Dresses are fun, but I don't wear them often. Perhaps because my workplace is casual? Or more likely, because I tend to "perch" rather than sit properly.

Oh, yes, I too find it interesting that climate plays a huge role in wardrobe planning, so this is most definitely NOT a summer wardrobe where I live. We have already had temperature over 100F this year. There is nothing as cool as a dress for summer, even shorts and skirts that sit at your waist can be miserable in our scorching summers here in Phoenix, Arizona, but I find I must always bring a light sweater or jacket indoors, where the air conditioning can make offices and restaurants quite cold by contrast. You can have the same issue with shoes in hot climates, where closed toes are less comfortable outdoors but sometimes more comfortable indoors here!

@@nanal1964 I am sorry, I was trying to be funny not rude but it didn't came across in English 🙏 I live in South Europe and I actually have felt sick/seizures in Summer in the city because I was not covered up and the sun was too intense. I prefer to be covered in the Summer but it all depends on the fabric. I have two cotton crochet sweaters that I have used in hot days that are better than some strappy poliéster tops. But of course I understood what you mean, in my opinion (it would be different in my 20s probably) I prefer long sleeves and skirts in Summer or "floaty" dresses. Also most people don't spend too much time outside during the week, even the bus has air conditioning this days. But sorry if I came across as rude!
