"Junkyards" are full of them so you must not be looking too hard, Super Trucker. And I seriously doubt you've spent any "quality time" in either, especially "R models" if you want them "back" right now.
Agreed, they need to come back with an old school model with none of the computerized bs guarantee that truck would not be abel to be kept in any lot they would sell out fast.
Best sounding truck (engine) that was, is and ever will be made. Besides having great power and torque in its day. Mitchpine had one near levin, straight pipe use to hear that beast coming cackling a mile away, sounded amazing.
Back in the early 00's up here in the pacificNW, my friends family owned a log truck business and the the grandfather owned an 80's (wanna say it was an 83') Superliner with the detroit v8 that was turned up to 900 hp. That rig was badass and had silver paint with blue and pink pin striping if I remember, and those twin stacks with the tips turned out were always rolling coal. The truck was kinda a local legend among the logging community up there.
Music to my ears I wish I was still driving the last superliner I drove back in the 90’s 92’ with the E-9 with the Williams air throttle with the pressure turned up putting 690horses on the ground Loved that truck
I just stumbled upon your channel, and so glad I did. I loved trucks since my very first memory, and have been driving since I was only 9yrs old. Turning 56 in less than a month, and still driving! This was exceptionally satisfying to watch. Especially since we never had Superliners, and for that matter Mack V8's, over here in South Africa. Thank you so much. I believe you'll have another regular spectator here in future. Keep up the good work. Take care, cheers!! PS: I'm still wearing Canterbury shorts every day. Just not feeling comfortable in anything else.
Your friend in the flip flops looks like the "new breed" of American truck drivers. You and your friend are both great drivers and your funny together too!
Retired now but remember some distinctive sounding engines in past years-Mack and Cat V8s, 2-stroke Detroits-V12 sounds better than the V8 IMHO, and older big cam Cummins, which happens to be the only older engine I’ve driven. My last ride had a DD15 which got the job done, but there was always a check engine light on; made sure it had DEF and changed the filter regularly, the local Freightliner dealer couldn’t figure it out! Computers are great for making truck videos, not tuning truck engines.😜Thanks for sharing the sight and sound of a classic!

Awesome video lads. What a truck. Superliner with a thumping V8. Can’t get any better sound than a V8 working away doing what it supposed to be doing. Also well done you two lads fronting the video for the Retro test dress in the day. Today’s PPE dressing style has changed a lot, but for this particular occasion one would think you would be definitely feel out of date especially the ole cut off jean shorts and the Canterbury shorts yea not so much and the jandals and slip on boots well it just looks the classic kiwi trucker. Outstanding. Great video lads. 10 out of 10.
Whoa 😮, E9 V8 Mack Superliner, one true beauty of a unit. Totally awesome video definitely made my day. Surprised I didn't see the video earlier, until now. Love the re-enactment of the air start-ups. Unit sounds and looks sharp as always Mr Amer 👍. Keep up the good work New Zealand Trucking Magazine.
I had an F-Model Mack in the '70's with a 325hp. V-8 and would run like a raped ape. Though it wouldn't out pull a Cat of equal hp. it would hang with the rest pretty good......but, here's the catch. If I told another driver my truck has a V-8 Mack in it they would and slap their knee and ask, "what are you doing with a barge anchor under the cab"? Now everybody loves them.
This just came into my feed, so glad it did! Great video. There’s still a few E9s running around in Oz, not like they used to though. I wonder if the owner has got the Mack low oil/low air bell, sounded like a door bell as soon as you turned the key. And the Williams air throttle. The E9 V8 Superliner I drove once had a 12 speed Mack transmission where the reverse was an air shift, very easy when you are backing. By the way, plenty of Kiwis over here, if they all left at once the trucking and mining industry would grind to a halt quick smart!
My Dad an uncles drove for Freightways Heavy Haulage in AKL in the 80's an 90's uncle drove a r series Mack low loader the other uncle drove a S liner Mack just like that one but Orange man took me back, good times,Keep on Trucking!!
Wow, back in the days when the Bulldog breed set the benchmark for how a real truck was made, sadly that benchmark slipped away and the breed hasn't been able to keep it happening, bloody awesome video fellas.
A "benchmark" that NOBODY ELSE RECOGNIZED. And by the way, Macks that are "all Mack" from the factory have been very "rare" for decades. And that "Superliner" is a piss-poor KW W900A/Pete 359 "clone" as far as its "styling cues".
@@deeremeyer1749 , back in the day( very early 80's) the Superliner could of been ordered as damn near 100% Mack or ordered with different running gear, engines etc, etc, maybe similarities with the bonnet compared to other manufacturers but definately original Mack design thru and thru, sorry my bro but that is the way it is😅🤣And for the record I reckon KW's etc are bloody awesome as well
Many years ago I was driving an E9 Mack 12 speed with straight thru pipes driving wheat seasons in western NSW, the truck could be heard coming 3 klm out of town and the change over driver would have a hot coffee on the table before it pulled up. Nothing short of a 12 cylinder GM sounds as good, well OK maybe a Scania V8? There were many E9 Superliners running wheat and cotton in their day and still a few out here during harvests. Hoewever times have changed and long distances here require greater fuel efficiency given the price of diesel now. Great video of a classic Mack.
Funny to see one without a bullbar to appreciate the good lines it has, I know its probably sacrilege but I would like to restomod one with a modern Scania V8 so it has modern bigger HP and fuel consumption but still sound right as an everyday work horse ( E9 stuff expensive to be wearing out too)

Nice Super Puppy. I remember back in the late 70's I used to see a man in Upstate NY with a R-700 pulling a milk tanker which always caught my eye since my Father and I had a friend who pulled chemicals out of North Jersey and his first tractor when he made the move to an Owner/Operator in 76 was a 72 R-600. I used to help him weekends with maintenance, washing/ waxing etc. I felt like it was part mine. Then the summer of 83 he started to make longer runs and needed a more comfortable cab and a sleeper, so he traded for a new Binder. But I still remember the Fall 1981 issue of Road King was the first time I saw a picture of a Mack Super Puppy and always liked them. Thanks again for the video I enjoyed seeing your Mack still on the road and being used as she was intended.

When the new trucks are in the shop with electronic issues, a plugged DPF, or just plain worn out that old Supermutt will still be working.
