I can appreciate those who restore old trucks but they were made to work and there is nothing better than seeing them do just that. Thanks for taking the effort to share with us. btw the Autocar's a gem.

Mack's Version of the walking beam suspension . We had that same suspension on a 77' DM685S & 85' DM685S Tandem Dumps Great suspension in the soft ground. but rough on the back & kidneys . Especially when running unloaded . All my family owned & operated was mostly Autocar & Mack . A bunch of nice rides ya have there bud . Found your channel a couple to 3 weeks ago . New subscriber & enjoy the channel very much. Mack from West TN .
In the 70s and 80s I drove a DM 600 triangle log truck. It had a 170 hp 711 engine , quadraplex transmission and 60,000 rears. It was one touch old truck. This was before regular use of portable scales so every load was 50 tons. In 10 year I replaced a clutch a differential lock and an injector line. The auxiliary transmission would lock in direct occasionally so you had to go under it and tap it out with a hammer. That only took a couple minutes. I liked the shorter hood on the DM, visibility was better than that R model.
One day I was empty going down hill and a VW bug passed me right before a light. It turned red , that VW went out of sight behind the hood before I got it stopped . I didnt feel a crunch but I had no idea how close I was to him. I hope the damn fool learned somthing from that.
@@williamgillette4086 haha I’ve had my share of cars pulling out in front of me. Just yesterday someone quickly turned into a drive way and then slowed down, not getting out of the road. With to cars behind him to so no where for me to go. The horn got him moving along or either that bull dog bearing down on him haha
The 1st on the road truck I drove after was a DM, 237 and a 6-speed overgear dump. Was an ex coal hauler out of Wes Va. and the logs and then rock. Then one with a coal box, 237 and a 2 stick 6-speed. Then Dm's with 237 mixers with walking beams and then everything else. Good old trucks but you really had to pay attention on the 2 stick jobs because the gate between lo-lo and reverse was so close you had to know reverse was a longer throw. The best one was the Superliner with the E-9 and a 12 speed. S T R O N G but whatever pays the light bill. Blessings
ol' Komatsu was a little smokey there. Miss seeing those Macks on the road here. There are still a lot of DM Mack redi mix trucks running around though. Cant kill them things, but hard to find drivers willing to drive something that is less than 5 years old and not an automatic. That suspension is about the best you could ask for doing off road work. Terrible on your back without a load though.
Like I said to the other guy. This truck has been pulled over by DOT and never has the way the load was secured been a problem. The best way to keep your load secure is to keep it between the ditches.
Straps over chains to secure your load Under secured load.. ??? I know in any state there would be a transportation state trooper to draw issue with that!!!! Good luck travel safe!!!
Thanks for the comment. I’m not unfamiliar with state troops. This trucks been stopped plenty times as you see it and not once was anything said about the way the load was secured. I believe what I had on there falls under that so have a good weekend
I’m not real sure. Transmission is the 5 on the main with lo direct and reverse on the second stick. I’m actually next to it right now and the rear end is stamped 5368. Don’t know why there’s four digits. I could ask my uncle he might know off hand. It was a mixer so I know it’s low gears
I need to make a correction here. I stated that this truck has a 300 in the video and in a few of the comments.
It’s actually a 237
5 speed Mack transmission as well?
@@lawrencetantalo7990 it’s a 6 speed technical, you’ve got the lo gear on the second stick then you run through the other 5 on the main stick.
That 237 is bulletproof 👍
Do you know what gears are in it, sounds pretty steep
@@ronyoung6054 that’s okay, it’ll still get the job done. Is that an air shift 6 speed also?

Nothing like a good old fashion log hauling video to start the day off right 👍👍 thanks for sharing James 🎉
I’m 24 years old and my daddy has told me about these old rigs and i appreciate these older rigs more then most of the newer rigs
I learned how to drive in these trucks back around 2012. I haven’t driven anything any newer

Great video!! That Mack 300 6 speed is a work horse
Bet that old green Mack rides like a covered wagon with them walking beams😊
At around 35,40mph while empty it hops like a rabbit 😅
Great video well done with this and the channel!

Yeah it is..
That Mack is a strong truck it’s had heavier loads than that and the suspension doesn’t wavier haha
James is the cab air ride cause it seems to ride pretty smooth for walking beam suspension, don’t see you bouncing around in the cab
It’s not air ride but when it’s loaded it really isn’t too bad. This truck handles well really
What does a small load of logs like that bring in your area? What area is this?
Barely enough to bother with. This was the wood off a lot for a house. It had to be hauled away anyway.
