C'mon Give a Sh*t- It's World Toilet Day 2014!
Around the world, there are 2.5 billion people without access to proper sanitation. 1.1 billion still practice open defecation. It's not just in the developing world - here in San Francisco, one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, there are over 7,350 homeless folks with limited access to restrooms, left with no choice but to relieve themselves in public.
Lava Mae is retrofitting retired MUNI buses with showers and toilets to deliver hygiene to SF's homeless. It's about public health, basic human rights, and above all, dignity.
