    Sound effects and music still sound cool. lol. Love hearing clone sound chips doing weird stuff.

    Since this has been made, we have really evolved with the clones and FPGA consoles. This is still a cool little collector's item. I still have quite a few of the clones that had composite or s-video. Then I got into the HD NOAC consoles. After that I am now using FPGA consoles, and Component cables through the RetroTINK 2X. What a difference all these years have made!

    I would LOVE to see an update to MANY of your console reviews and how they stand up today to modern clones. And also, always wondered how the jailbar issue is presented on a crt monitor or tv.

    • @SatoshiMatrix1
      @SatoshiMatrix1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jailbars are still present on CRTs, just perhaps not as noticeable due to the lower resolutions. But it's not like they go from completely visible to invisible. Maybe like from 100% (HDTV) to 90% (CRT)

    Well, this Famiclone was only released in Japan so you won't find it in any western stores. Amazon Japan probably has them. Keep in mind though, that you need basic Japanese reading and writing to access it, and they only ship to Japanese addresses. There are proxy services that will mail items internationally for a fee. Honestly, your best bet is to try and make friends with someone living in Japan as I did.

    You should try some Brazilian famiclones like the Dynavision 3, it has great compatibility (uses discrete chips), headphone jacks, dual conector system (plays 72 and 60 pins without any adapter) and soft touch buttons on front panel. Some versions of this console has a controller with a, b and a+b buttons, this helps a lot with games that uses a+b to jump.

  • @LuwiigiMaster
    @LuwiigiMaster 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was talking about the hardware level. Since it doesn't mix expanded audio, they likely decided to clone the NES' workings rather than the Famicoms, despite using Famicom carts. Of course, that could also be bad design on part of the manufacturer, so...

  • @jacobprayer8656
    @jacobprayer8656 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should take all of your NES to Famicom and Famicom to Nes Adapters to make as large a tower of power as possible!

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoy making reviews for obscure clones like this, but honestly I don't really recommend this unless you're on a tight budget. If you spring it, consider buying an actual AV Famicom produced by Nintendo around 1992-1993. They're around $100, but it's really the best revision of the hardware. The pin adapter I show I got from a website that doesn't exist anymore, so not sure what to tell ya.

    Actually, in Poland and perhaps Ukraine (Russia for sure) we didn't have NES, we had famiclones. In Poland Pegasus, in Russia Dendy, etc. So you can definitely buy fami carts in Europe.

    That's fine, if you want intangible roms, a pc screen, a keyboard layout or some crazy usb controller.
    For me it's all about the hardware, the cartridges, and using a big ol' CRT.

  • @BaconStein

    The "minimalist" design reminds me of the AtGames SEGA Firecore/Arcade Classic. Looks like a neat little clone for playing import games, though the heatsink problem sounds annoying and those controllers don't look all that comfortable. Apparently there is also a DS Lite adapter variation, but it only works with the Lite.

  • @CrystalPistol
    @CrystalPistol 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got a good famiclone for you to review, it's called the Super Polystation 2, it's an interesting Famiclone.

  • @UltimatePerfection
    @UltimatePerfection 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also I'll be picking up Famulator. Don't care about console, but it's worth picking up for controller itself. Unless there is way to buy controllers alone.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regulations in Japan aren't as tight as the west. While it isn't absolutely imperative the 7805 has a heatsink, it's a good idea to add one because the excess ~4v expended as heat builds up with extended use, and without a heatsink of any sort the only thing to absorb that heat is the surrounding components and the outer plastic casing. Adding a heatsink is literally as easy as taking any piece of metal and screwing it to the back of the heatsink. As to quality of the clone, watch the video!

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No way. The Famulator controllers are fantastic. Small, but fantastic.

    Can you send me an audio file of the overworld theme on a Famiclone like this one? I love this tune more than the original NES tune!

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jsplicer9 Highly unlikely. This is a Famicom device suitable for Japan and other countries in Asia. You need to import one. It will NOT play NES games without an adapter.

  • @CoyoteReyne
    @CoyoteReyne 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rather than a heatsink, would just cutting some vents into it work? It'll look ugly, but you don't have to worry about space.

  • @svedenvaara
    @svedenvaara 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Famulator worked perfectly on the TV at my parents place, but when I plugged it into my TV at home the colors where all messed up. They where in black and white, sometimes flashing to color in an instant, then back to black and white. Is there such a thing as incompatible TVs or something? A PAL/NTCS issue maybe?

      This would be dope for a road trip or something if you have a monitor in a van, bus, or car backseat. Today my 1 year 4 month old son was holding the Genesis controller in his hand with his thumbs on the d-pad and the face buttons with Sonic 1 playing. He was just making Sonic jump, but still I was so proud. He also loves cars right now, so he likes when I play Outrun. I finally beat the game for the first time today. I went right on all course turns. I guess I can try the many different routes next time.
      Does adding a heat sink prevent the common melting plastic smell that most Famiclones suffer from?
      On a side note I remember reading in Gamepro or one of the mags of the era a preview of Mega Man 6. I remember the SNES being out for a while. I had only played up to part 3, so when I saw the Mega Armor I was intrigued. It's red, does he fuse with Rush the robo dog?

    • @cutemimi25
      @cutemimi25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually adding a heatsink prevents the system's voltage regulator from getting destroyed.

  • @RandSilva79
    @RandSilva79 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that the Dynavision uses Pal-M color system, but it's easy to mod to NTSC.

  • @LuwiigiMaster
    @LuwiigiMaster 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whoa, this thing can play MMC5 games AND the PowerPak? That's interesting.
    Isn't also the fact that it can't play expanded audio is because it's technically an NES clone, not a Famicom clone?

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sure, if you want to send me it for review, pm me the details and we'll arrange that.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    NO, absolutely not! without a heatsink, the 7805 will heat up more and more and can potentially burn out the entire board. side vents would only aid a heatsink, not replace one.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    PAL Famiclones are an odd bunch, operating on their own unique clockspeed (that's both different from NTSC AND the official NES PAL) and a lot of them operate on SECAM and are just a mess. That's mostly why I have little interest in the ones from Iceland and Russia where they were abundant.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try using an NTSC NES or SNES on the tv. If others give the same results, you can rule out the Famulator as the problem.

    @KimulatorsFilms 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello :D , your video is very good and convinced me to buy the console, but the dc adapter is 220v and canada we have 110v, what to do? thank you :)

    • @SatoshiMatrix1
      @SatoshiMatrix1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The voltage _range_ is 110-220v. It doesn't mean it requires 220v. It simply means it can handle that much voltage from a European wall socket and still work.

    • @KimulatorsFilms
      @KimulatorsFilms 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree, some of the games i have runs with slower sound because my console is Pal version. But other games i have to the system has the right sound speed. It depends on what region game they copy the game from. I love game carts with one game on the cartrigde and dont like multi carts because theese carts is poor quality.

    I dont have a Famicom, but i have Dendy 2 from Russia. Still in perfect condition. Dendy 2 plays Famicom games and games from Russia. I like the size of your Famulator but its sad that the sound quality is so poor. For many years ago i tried a console called Aaronix who suffers the same sound problems i tried to play super mario 3 and the game got stuck because of the poor soundcard. But my Dendy 2 plays with good sound and has good controllers that looks like the Sega Mega Drive controller :-)

    Famulator+NES PowerPak=???

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    With all due respect, to make such a statement, you must not know what you're talking about. The NOAC of course does not produce any meaningful heat, but the common 7805 voltage regulator inside the Famulator does. The 7805 converts unregulated ~9v DC from the power supply to a constant 5v, wasting the excess energy as raw heat directly around the voltage regulator. Without a heatsink of any sort, this heat has nowhere to escape to but the outer plastic casing of the very compact system.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mean with the Famulator? No, not at all. The Famulator is a very very average run of the mill Famiclone that just happens to have an interesting case design and controller. Otherwise, it's not very good. If you want a good clone, check out my video reviews for the RetroDuo and Super 8.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No. The Famulator runs a very run-of-the-mill NOAC that isn't remarkable in any way at all. NOACs by their very design can run only RF and Composite because they exactly copy the original PPU. The Famulator or any other NOAC clone could never be RGB modded. That's just not possible.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1
    @SatoshiMatrix1  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Except that the Dendy system's are clones of the PAL NES that plays pirated versions of NTSC Famicom games. That's what we call a clusterfuck. PAL systems are too slow to play NTSC games correctly, and NTSC systems play PAL games too quickly.

      MM6 doesn't get the love it deserves. Released at the tail end of the NES's life, it changes things up from 5 while increasing the difficulty and having among the best visuals on the system, plus the ever present awesome music. Sure the plot is....well, terrible, but c'mon, it's Megaman, not Shakespeare. The cart is kinda pricy, but worth picking up.
