  • Marie-Antoinette danced her shoes on a ball in the Schaezlerpalais ... says the legend. However, the fact is that on the way to her wedding - still as Austrian Princess Maria Antonia - she visited the palace and inaugurated the Rococo hall there as part of a large ball.
This hall is undoubtedly the showpiece of the 1765 to 1770, designed by the Munich court architect Carl Albert v. Lespilliez, a student of François Cuvilliés, for a building erected for a banker in Augsburg. It is one of the largest secular Rococo ballrooms north of the Alps. Top-class artists of the time were involved in his furnishings, including Gregorio Guglielmi (ceiling fresco), Placidus Verhelst (carving), Franz Xaver Feichtmayr II. And Simpert Feichtmayr (stucco work). As a further special feature, the surface of the ballroom is still 90% in its original condition.
