- Zigzag unveils the most well kept secret of Art Nouveau: Chateau Laurens in the french town of Agde. An absolute masterpiece, which was left abandoned for half a century and has now been brought back to its original splendour!
Music courtesy of Gurdjieff - De Hartmann, Jefferson Airplane and Saint-Saëns.
The beautiful photos are courtesy of Laurent Félix and Romain Veillon.

Such a beautiful restoration of an amazing residence. I was especially struck by the "before" and "after" photographs of the various rooms.
Thank you very much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful story! With such beautiful and striking illustrations, too. I am so glad the neighboring town saved and restored this fascinating, magical place so that it would not be lost and the world can still enjoy it.
Thank you so much!
Fabulous information! Great presentation of this one of a kind property, thank you!
Superbe!! What a Glorious house build by a very intriguing man.
By the way, I had no problem at all with hearing your voice, oke, maybe a little “echo”, but I prefer that to all the AI voice overs you hear these says
Again
🦋🙏🏽🦋
Really nice documentary of a part of Art Nouveau that was thus far unknown. Will visit next time I am in the south of France!
Thanks!! It's an amazing place, definitely worth a visit!!
That bath is a dream in mosaics! Wonderful home.
Thank you and a pleasure to listen to a narrator with a distinctive, lovely voice.
Thank you kindly!
Wow, That is a style I adore. What a gift to the world left by the creators and restorers and those that funded it. 🙏
I deleted my offensive comment..I was referring to a male who committed a hate crime. He pushed a white gentleman off a train platform two days ago in NYC. In no.way did I mean to relay my anger toward this awesome documentary. Thanks to this wonderful gem, I feel RENEWED and full of love and beauty. Thst is whst Art Nouvau means to me!
artistic geniuses exist in all epochs! I would love to spend one night in that homage to Art Nouveau!
I personally love the bathtub and would love to take a bath there!!😜
Very interesting. I’m familiar with the art nouveau “greatest hits,” but have never heard of Chateau Laurens - fantastic. I hope I get to see it in person.
The link to the site is in the description
Quelle merveille ! Merci de nous l'avoir fait découvrir : -)))
EXTRAORDINARY. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!
You're very welcome!
Super fascinating, thanks for revealing this architectural treasure.
Glad you enjoyed it
Fascinatingly beautiful! The overly flowery decoration of every surface is dizzying! And in answer what others commented, the sound quality was not a problem for me.
Thanks!! It doesn't sound so bad in my computer either...
Incredible, wondrous, astonishing, beautiful, inspirational, bizarre---all of those things and more. A million thank-yous for bringing this beautiful chateau to viewers---I'll be forever grateful to TH-cam for suggesting it! It goes into my "Extra Special" playlist so that I may watch it over & over again. The photography/videography was fabulous, so well done, givng time enough to absorb some of the wonder of that place. The before/after at the end was mind-blowing---looking at how perfectly preserved the place was I had been assuming that the place had been well-cared for all these years. To see the ruin that it became & the result of 20 years of restoration---I have no words. Like others, I would take issue with the terrible echo in that room---record someplace where there is upholstery, curtains, rugs to muffle that. Your voice & accent are lovely but between the echo & the music playing loudly & randomly, I had to turn on the closed caption to hear, when all I wanted to do was look at the wonders on the screen. Luckily I can watch this as much as I like. I have subscribed in the hope that you will be doing the "Grand Tour" of Europe (or anywhere else!). Well. Done!
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm. It really is an amazing place and the wonderful team did an amazing job restoring it. Next episode will be posted on the 1st of February and will bring you to... London!!
This is thee most amazing villa EVER !!! Another great walk-through was done by Stephanie and Philip on their channel "Chateau Diaries" and I was hooked and enthralled! Your coverage is excellent and I especially enjoyed the closing with the Before and After images! This gentleman/builder had a fantastic vision no doubt aided by his opium habits. Colors on the floor via the stained glass are magnificent. I must come and see it for myself! Thank you!
wow ,, words are surperfluous absolutely outstanding
Thank you for the discovery !!
I love this house!! It’s perfect.🤗❤️🐝
Thank you!! 😊
@ You’re welcome 🤗❤️🐝
Once filled with lost Carlo Bugatti furniture, silk road textiles, and oriental art. An art nouveau version of Lord Leighton house.
Well spotted!! Leighton house will feature in a future zigzag episode!!
Wonderful documentary!
THNX fer tour love art nouveau
Great soundtrack EBABCOCK
Exquisite
I saw this amazing place in another video (before renovation) and am so glad to get a good look at it now, plus more information. I had to turn the volume way up because your voice was not clear, but mostly wanted the visuals anyway- thanks.
Sublime.
Lovely job
Thank you! 😊
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Her Mic is on the camera so room acoustics are " echoing "
Wonderful video, thank you!! I just wish I could've understood all of the words spoken, but the echos stopped the narrative from being understandable.
curious audio quality -- why does she have an echo? sounds like she was in a cave instead of that room.
Please what is the music that starts at 5:13!?!?!?!??
Hello, It's the Baccanale from Saint-Saëns opera Samson et Dalida. It's great, isn't it??
@@ottaviacasagrande4429 i love it. Thank you. And this house... just magnificent! Thank you for showing it!
Why would;d you need a sofa for taking opium when you lived in a place as wonderful, wonder filled as this
You have a good point there!!
So where did all of this indulgent wealth all come from? Perhaps French Colonialism? Perhaps the Roman Catholic Doctrine Of Discovery? "What's yours in now ours." 💙
Apparently, the distant cousin Emanuel inherited from was an engineer not directly linked to colonialism. He built mainly public buildings in France. But then, where the public money came from it's hard to trace....
Ottavia, could you please re-do the audio? It is quite difficult to understand. It is seems so interesting, it is a pitty!
Yeah, I'm sorry. The mic didn't work very well that day... I'll try to redo it asap. There should be the subtitles though...
@@ottaviacasagrande4429 Was it a lav mic or were you using an onboard mic in the camera?
@@ajscaffandthebandoles It was an external mic on the camera, but something went wrong. I got a lav since
What’s with the echo chamber? Very distracting.
So sorry...
@@ottaviacasagrande4429 you are instantly forgiven for this transgression because I enjoyed this documentary very much and proves once again
Just when you think you know a lot about a subject, there's still more to learn so thank you......
@@kenboydart Coming from printed journalism, I'm getting used to all the technical aspects of video making. The next one will be better, sound wise and also video wise, I promise!!
Another self indulgent meaningless masterpiece
Horrified that your other videos show the killing of defenseless beautiful wildlife. Definitely not subscribing! Horrible.
Yeah, that is horrible, but unfortunately that's how many white women and men lived back then in Kenya. It must be said that often (but not always) it was self defence. Lions are not so defenceless after all. The Kikuyu tribe often asked Karen Blixen to kill a lion that was roaming around their villages, preying their kettles and children. It was not my intention to celebrate that way of life, but no use in denying it. Just acknowledge it, knowing that hopefully humanity has since progressed.
Very intriguing concept however I wont watch it because the quality of your microphone is so poor.
Thank you, Ottavia! I am in awe of the imagination, the creativity, the craftsmanship and the magical energy of this magnificent piece of art. I can only imagine what it felt like to be around his creative mind. Having never heard of Chateau Laurens before, it is now on my bucket list. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️🌻🦋
Wow, thank you!
