Thank you for the laughs guys, it was a fun ½ hour with lots of laughter, and also thank you for being one of the only youtubers who saw through the bullshit in this asset flip of a demo 😁
I spent 4-5 hours playing through all content in this demo and while it looked good in many aspects, I also had a sneaking suspicion that a single dev probably didn't make much of this, and from what I have heard from others, he didn't!
All maps are basically UE5 store assets thrown together without changing or adding much to them, no world building or anything, just slammed a bunch of demo maps together in this, survival mechanics and crafting is also just very basic UE5 assets, not sure if he did much change other than messing a bit with some of the build-in settings from these assets...
In other words it feels and plays like an asset flip game, the looks of them are good in some places, but it is not done by the hands of a single dev, also his history on steam shows 2-3 games being developed per year... Yeah true game development isn't that easy or fast, but still so many people can't see it and are willing to throw 20-30$ towards asset flips like these 😂

Simon's photograph time travel idea is the plot of a book series I read maybe twenty years ago. I can't remember the title for the life of me, and it is aimed at middle-schoolers, but the idea is that the kids have this time travel device that they strap to their back, and they travel to historical events by using the attached pen to poke at photographs.
Yes, dogs absolutely have lips. The part that sags is the cheek.
And the reason people used to think t-rex didn't have lips was because they originally thought dinosaurs were all giant sluggish lizards living in swamps, like crocodiles, which do not have lips.
I love that the main way of killing dinos in this game is just chucking rocks at them until they fall over.

This game looks like an excellent example of why clear tutorial steps are important. Mountains are pretty and all but that doesn't really hold up when you're starving because you don't know how to forage for berries.
If you get thirsty, you have to go over to the river and punch the water. And if you want to change time, You have to time travel and punch the future. 😂😂😂
They need to play the Wizard With a Gun demo next, and see if they like it. Demo only has singleplayer, but the full game will include multiplayer, and I bet at least some of the guys would find it fun, at least for a Dumpster vid.

This game reminds me of that short story, A Sound of Thunder. Also while not a survival game, there is one where you build something in the past and get to see how it changes things in the future. Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle.

Actually I think he could be more accurately remembering an episode of Red Dwarf, Season 3 Episode 5 "Timeslides". Where they time travel using photos.

Prince of Persia did what Neebs was looking for in a game. Not a survival game, obviously, but you had to go back in time to change things in the future to get through levels etc.
Sands of Time was ahead of its time

@Chris Peterson this is true. I forgot that the mechanic was in Two Thrones. Out of the trilogy it's the one I played the least unfortunately.

Simon: Your photograph time travel game sort of exists in movie form. There was a movie back in the 90s called the stamp traveler. A kid traveled into the images on stamps. XD

I just watched the demo video for this on Steam. It is pretty ambitious. They barely even got close to scratching the surface here.
I like that the crocodile and the hippo, natural enemies, were able to set aside their differences thanks to their mutual desire to kill Appsro.
Dark Chronicle on PlayStation 2 was an amazingly fun game that had time travel aspect where you need to go back and forth to progress. I cannot tell you how many hours I've lost in that game. some of the fondest memories of my ex-wife were playing this game together.
the lips trex issue is that if they dont have lips their teeth would be showing all the time but the only animals that have teeth showing all the time are found in the water (or around). It's because having lips is how animals keep their teeth moist which protects the teeth, unlike sharks that can have their teeth hanging out all the time. something like that
It's a known fact that the US went through a pickaxe shortage in 1923 Because they were all being used to build the Empire state building.
Chronotrigger had it that if you opened a chest in the past it would still be unlocked in the future. If you didn't loot the item, it would actually be upgraded.

the friendly aggression you guys show each other when playing games is the reason your my number one streamer/content makers. Absolute unmatchable. id still love simon to do a spin off series, something like the wanderer where he does random videos in 7 days with other people like glock9, khaine etc. Randomly bumping into each one on his travels like kung fu lol

man i love the dumpster pumping out so much content in between main channel vids, wish it came out sooner
time travel mechanics could work in survival games. you could level up your time skipping skills to go further back and forwards. go as far back as possible to plant seeds so you can skip ahead and harvest them. if someone else is in between the time periods they'd see the plant partially grown suddenly spring into existence and could mess with you by destroying it.
it'd need some hard time travel rules though. you couldn't do something that retroactively undid something somebody already profited from. like if person A harvests a rock, person B couldn't harvest the same rock in a previous time pocket to remove the resources from person A. that's how it should work but that would require a programming language that actually can control time. you'd have to accept each time pocket was independently resourced with it's own respawn timers

Simon's time travel idea intrigues me. If you time travel through the photo, that means you would have to take a photo of where you want to return. Worst case you lose it and are stuck in the past.

@@ttgg1564 to teleport not time travel and he doesnt jump in to the photo, the jumper has to be able to picture in their mind where they need to teleport to and memory is better than photo.

So regarding the T Rex lips. Most popular depictions of T Rex depict it with exposed teeth like crocodiles but Crocodiles have like significant wear and tear from being constantly exposed to the elements. T Rex teeth don't have the wear and tear which suggests they're teeth are covered like moniter lizards.
So Simon just described an episode of Red Dwarf where they time traveled using photographs. Only they couldn't move from the confinds of the photo.

This is what you get when the game engines get this great, makes it real easy to, at first glance, make a good game.
It's just superficial though, I'd recommend waiting these out until full release.

Buyer beware, this dev has a couple of abandoned projects that he's still selling on Steam, and this game is simply an asset flip of his previous game, "Karagon (Survival Robot Riding FPS)" (yes, that's what it's actually called).
Simon needs to watch red dwarf. They have a whole episode dedicated to his time travel photo idea

emerald atlas is a book that explores that and is well worth a read
4:30 There was a book I read as a kid that if the kid held a baseball card he could travel back to that time. He would do it for memorabilia to bring back to the future and sell

What we need is an elder scrolls story progression and character building, with ark survival and multiplayer, with The Isle dinosaur animation and audio, mixed with Amnesia/Soma or Alien Isolation horror ambience.
With time travel eras unlockable through progression for free roam once unlocked.
Butterfly Effect was almost time travel with pictures. Almost because it was more your mind jumping to your past self.

So I'm studying game design currently and honestly I could see this whole demo being someone's final school project or something. It's not bad but obviously needs a lot of content added. It follows a LOT of the same principles that I'm learning now. The issue is something I see a lot in my own projects and in fellow classmates' is that it hasn't been playtested by enough different people with different playstyles. It was most likely tested by the Developer and maybe 1 friend and they were probably told a bit too much of what to do. I don't know exactly but I'd say they were influenced by Void train and Ark if I had to guess. It's a solid portfolio piece no doubt but marketable game it is not.
