    Beautiful British coinage and I hope they grade very well for him! Thanks for the schooling on the denominations as it is usually a little hard for us Americans to follow. Congrats on the Steel Cent gifts! They are really cool to have. Thanks for sharing and very good way to start off the New Year!!

    Even as an American, the crowns and sovereigns are captivating coins. Even moreso than the Morgans imo. A real treat!

    Thanks for showing my coins. Like i said, I don't expect a great grade from the 1/2 Sov. I wouldn't be disappointed with a details grade. But it will look nice in a holder. The Steel Pennies were kind of a funny gift. Then I looked them up later, as you know. They are worth something in MS 67 or so grade and if they are not cleaned or re-plated with zinc. I have 2 of each still left
    Thanks again for grading :)

    During my childhood phase of coin collecting[mid 80's], I picked up a few pds sets of the steel pennies. They are a nice novelty. Think it was $1 for each set. Think they go for a little more these days. The history behind them is interesting indeed.

      For circulated examples a fair price for a PDS set is around 20-30 cents. My LCS sells the BU ones for $1 per coin.

    In my experience in the US ANAC often over grades coins buy 2 grades deals don’t trust the grade and automatically pay you for at least one grade lower

    Can anyone tell me if I should sell my silver bullion to get a 500g gold bar

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily unless you can get a great price for your Silver probably not to a dealer.

    • @benm4903
      @benm4903 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Numistacker I was offered a good price and the total amount was enough to by 500g if gold

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ben M the 500g bar will be trade able and the margins are small. It will take less effort to deal in than holding Silver. They say Silver has more upside than Gold but at the moment with interest in Crypto both are flat

    It just goes to prove, that if numistacker is correct, and the halfcrown does receive a higher grade by removing it from one slabbing company to another, the whole bloody thing is a racket and and a con. If these so called people who grade are so good it would make no difference, the grade would be the same who ever graded it. Many people do this to get a higher grade, so that they then can sell it at higher price if they so wish. This is a big big money racket, and is not correct numismatics. A person either knows how to grade or not, and would be the same who ever grades it. As said before it takes years of knowledge how to grade coins, and this sort of bullshit from slabbing firms will ruin numismatics. I notice some of the pieces have some small carbon spots, which of course slabbing firms never mention, where good Auction houses do.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buy the coin and ignore the grade? It seems to me that there is an element of subjectivity in grading and that grade barriers change over time. I love graded coins myself and most auction houses (USA) prefer to sell graded coins and this is also becoming prevalent in the uk for International marketing reasons. The problem is the greed of sellers and the willingness of buyers in USA in particular to pay high prices for just one grade higher.

    • @philippayne4951
      @philippayne4951 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no subjectivity in grading. You know how to grade or not. The point is, these people have set them selves up as being professional coin graders and not making these mistakes. These bloomers happen time and time again, see also comment I made on an 1897 S double eagle. They go through several people and then the grade is given. But then for example you take it out the slab and return it to the same firm or another slabbing firm, you get a different grade again. So which is the correct grade, and you paid twice. You think that is right? The whole thing is a bloody racket, and a con. and collectors are being taken for a ride.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Philip Payne that is just not true at all. Take a look at the Coin Week blind grading challenge videos with top experts grading a range of world coins. That video shows just how subjective grading is. It’s an opinion... if you are not an expert who do you trust The dealer who wants to get the best possible price by pretending his coins are higher grade than they are or the l independence of a third party grading company where coins are graded to the consensus of three people.
      I know which one I would choose.
