We took it on a shake down run the next day! It is the best version of the sammy yet, pretty much unstoppable! That video comes out Christmas day, you wont want to miss it. I had to winch 2 toyotas out of the river, and watch another one break an axle and blow a tire all trying to follow the Zuk! Thanks for watching!
Im glad you find them helpful! There are lots of videos on a bunch of different things. Consider subscribing if you havent already, i put out weekly videos!
Also a note for anyone going to the watch the video on low range. If you go step by step on the assembly you will not have a rotor cover installed. They skipped that step. Ask me how i Know.
awesome step by step video, it really helped me a lot. 1 remark, I think the order of the parts of the steering knuckle seal is different from what I see in your video. It is (from the knucle side to the diff) 1. small steel plates, 2. rubber seal, 3. felt ring 4. large steel plates. So basically the rubber seal and the filt ring are in between the steel parts
Thanks for watching and commenting! To be honest its been so long since i did it i dont even remember the order, but i havent had any leaks or trouble with the way i did it.
My kit came with new King pins as well . Also just a tip : Easier to put the Knuckle seal & wiper over the ball BEFORE you install the Kingpin bearing cups . good vid
Yeah i know about putting the seals on before the bearing races, i had help filming that day and was a little distracted from my normal "have to do everything" routine. I didnt find it hard to put the seals on anyway. Thanks for watching man.
Yes i read that too, i had 2 styled of wipers in my kit. a real stiff version and a soft rubbery oem version. I couldnt get the stiff one over the knuckle so i opted for the oem version, i just couldnt bring myself to cut the wiper..lol
Hey Ron thanks for the video. I cut the head off 6mm bolts to help install the gaskets instead of using water pump studs. Made a big difference on the install.
Oh i bet it did!, i was in too much of a hurry by then to bother, at that point i was about 10 or 12 hours into filming and was getting sick of it..lol And i wanted to take it on a shake down run the next day ( that video comes out christmas day! Thanks for the tip Douglas!
Thanks for all your hard work making these videos 👍 I subscribed a few weeks back! I have a few question for you. I have a 93 Sidekick 4 door, I want to get it set up a bit better for off-road use ( I still need it capable of winter snow commuting )I probably drive my Sidekick about 3000 miles a year. I would like to get a locker for the rear end. Would you suggest a Lockright or another brand? I really would like an E locker but I’m not sure if one’s available? How about one of the TRE air lockers? Finally I have seen some LSD diffs sold on E bay shipping from Russia, I was thinking that maybe a good choice for the front diff after getting the rear diff setup with a locker? Or maybe a lockright installed in the front? I just wonder if a lockright up front would be an issue for steering? I would be interested in your thoughts on this? Thanks
Hey Mike, thanks for subscribing and welcome to the channel! It depends where you live, do you drive it on the hwy in the winter with snow covered roads? If so, i would stay away from the lock right or spartan style lockers, they tend to be unpredicatble and squirrly on icy highways at speed. I recently installed a TRE air locker in the rear and sofar its worked flawlessly, but ive only taken it on one wheeling trip so as for longevity...who knows, only time will tell. I have heard good stuff about them, i personally feel an air or e-locker would be better than lsd as you have more control on when to lock it especially when wheeling. I have a spartan up front now also, it does affect steering but only in 4x4, turning radius is larger and you have to put in chromoly axles to use a spartan or lockrite, though most likely you would have to with any locker up front as the locker has the bigger spline set for the bigger axles. I dont know of any front lockers that take the factory axles. The factory front axles are tiny anyways so putting in a locker up front would most likely break the axles in short time. Ooops i just realize your running a sidekick, i was talking about the samurai front diff. Im not sure what options you have for front lockers or chromollies, i do know you have to watch out if your front 3rd member is aluminum or steel, if steel your good, if aluminum id stay away from locking the front. I have a video coming out Christmas day which is a shakedown run for the new gears, Chromolly front axles, hybrid rear axle and TRE rear air locker. The Sammy was unstoppable!
@@FabbinAdventures Thank you so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate it 👍 I’m in wester Washington so I’m only driving a week or two out of the year on snow covered roads. I really appreciate your input on this. I do have an aluminum front 3rd member housing up front. I definitely will be checking out more of your videos 👍 ps I’m also a fellow YT creator!
Cool, whats your channel? Glad to be able to help! Consider coming to "Zuksaw on the Whipsaw" next august! If your in waahington your not far from the whipsaw!
@@FabbinAdventures I definitely have thought about it after seeing your videos posted about the Whipsaw trail. I’m not sure if the border will be open for Me to head up north by then? If it is I really think I should try to get up there! My Suzuki will definitely need a lockright if I try to get though that trail! I’m actually planning on building a nice winch bumper this winter for it. My YT channel is the one I’m commenting from. Mike Festiva 👍 I do a lot up Fab projects. Take care
Hopefully the borders open up by then, i personally think lower t-case gears are more important for that trail than lockers, from what we experienced last aug! Hope to see you there!
Well my theory is to help keep water away from the actual birfield, say, during water crossings and such. If its packed tight there is less room for water. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome thank you sir. I guess it would be like how we do differentials on our 4wheelers down here in Louisiana when we mud ride. Thank you for the videos
Ron, I saw that you don't reinstall the snap rings on the ends of the axle shafts. Have you noticed and slop or play in 4WD without them? I'm debating leaving mine out because those rings are a pain in the ass to reinstall.
Great video helped a lot while I was doing my front diff rebuild just have one question not sure if maybe I’m not seeing it right but it looks like to me you put the rubber seal before the retainer low range off road puts the retainer first then puts the rubber seal followed by the felt then the black retainer sorry if it’s a dumb question it my first samurai still learning Tia
I got them new from some local guy selling off his spare parts. He couldnt tell me what brand they were, most likely longfields. Sorry im not any more help than that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I need your help. I have a 87 samurai. But the motor is a 90 suzuki swift 1.3l dohc. I need to replace the rear main seal. Do I order one for a samurai or swift? Thank you
Yes, the rear main seal though has to mate with the engine block and crank shaft. The dinensions may be different from one engine to the other. The clutch on the other hand will mount to either flywheel likely but may or may not fit the bell housing of the transmission. I have the 1.6 16v engine in my samurai but have to use the 1.3 8v (stock sized) clutch, the 1.6 16v clutch doesnt fit in the bell housing if i remember right.

I've seen too many broken berfield joints in samurai axles to ever spend any money trying to upgrade them. Just swap to Toyotas and be done with it.
I havent had trouble yet, if or when i do, ill look at that option.
