ill never forget you giving me gas for my car didn;t know is was you until the next day when i saw you on tv it made my life sweeter your a truely lovly man thankyou
After all these years you seem like an old friend, and your music is like a warm comforter to wrap up in, shutting out the worlds chaotic noise and feel at peace. "Thanks" is inadequate. However, my children have been inculcated in your music. I am now working on 15 grandchildren. If they want or need a ride, they are now comfortable knowing what the music will be. Bruce Hornsby! The little ones cannot quite get their mouths around the name, but they are trying. So thanks will have to do.
Very sensitive and revered artist in his classically trained career. He will remain paramount as a songwriter and dedicated professional inside this rare window of a generation that will remain part of history forever .
Yes!!! Mark Sirois I could not have said it better. I found his music in a really bad time in my life, bruce may not ever know me, but he saved my life....💖🌷
He has been part of my life for 28 years. I once drove up the west coast of NewFoundland listening to nothing but his jazz album(Camp Meeting) for 6 days. I will likely never get to see him live but as I drive around for my work (painting landscapes), he will always be in my player.
Congratulations Bruce. Beautiful Harmony. Wonderful Polyrhythmya. Beautiful Swing. F Major. Is it right? Wonderful. You improvise with your right hand and the polyrhythmia with your left hand. This is extremely difficult. Of course!! You're Bruce Hornsby. I'm your fan Bruce! Yesterday, today and forever. My best regards from BRZ. São Paulo State. Santos City. Success, Bruce! A myth.
Harbor Lights is such a great record, it boggles the mind. Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Phil Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Garcia as guests and Hornsby at his best, you can't get much better than that.
A true minstrel of God...He put a gift in him which unlocks the human heart and tells stories in a musical language few get to experience. When he comes to that place and gives his gift back to his creator then the final chapter of his journey will begin..
What a great talent. I saw him twice in the metro Detroit area. Meadowbrook theatre and a record store Farmington Hills, MI. At the record store he played a couple of songs, answered questions, and signed autographs. If you get the chance to see him live you should definitely go!
Incredible musicianship. We need a whole lot more of this quality of music and whole bunch less of what's on the radio presently as most of it's cheese dried and terminally insincere. I want to play piano like that in my next life........
I'm trying exactly that and the fact that so much people love bruce hornsby is encouraging me to do my own thing like he did. bruce became popular with music that has elements of unpopular music genres like jazz and (classical) new music
I agree - Harbor Lights is one of the all-time great records. Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, and many more - even Phil Collins just singing two notes over and over.
This is nice but the original on the Harbor Lights rocked. Great bass and drums on it plus Bruce's wicked piano and vocals. I see he is still taking request which it appears this was. He may not have performed it in years. Looks like he's reading the music to refresh his memory.
I love the piano sequence at the beginning of this, it doesn't appear in any form on the album version of China Doll, was it an improptu intro for this performance?
Finally put it together, it's a vignette ("cue") from Red Hook Summer, one of his many collaborations with Spike Lee: th-cam.com/video/M-gq_MwSXk0/w-d-xo.html
What other Singer does all Request for his shows?None that i know of,I agree if you are paying for the Concert,You should hear the Songs that you wan't,Granted you might not like everysong,But at least the majority will.
The Grateful Dead also have a song called China Doll - (and China cat sunflower) but it is different from Bruce’s song - both great songs - I would say the Garcia and Hunter song is slower - kinda more melancholy.
Overly complex, less entertaining than the studio version, and he wasn't painting any stories that anyone other than a musician could appreciate. Reminds me of how Michael McDonald lost his way. Everything post Harbor Lights is convoluted riffs.
Apparently, you have never heard the studio version because it's quite different from this rendition of what is admittedly a great song. Every musician eventually reaches that point in his career when his live music is nowhere near as good as the studio version, as is the case here. Regardless, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. Just because you don't agree with someone else's comment in no way makes him a troll, however, you calling a complete stranger a troll simply because you don't like what he wrote definitely puts you way below a troll.
@@JosephUsher Bruce has stated at his shows now that all songs won't sound like the CD they came from since he has played them live for 30 yrs now. Let this be an illustration of raw, intellectual talent unmatched by any pop crap today. He is an icon.

Truly gifted - a breath of fresh air - no matter what I write I cannot give justice to this man's artistry
That Steinway just wails. What incredible tonality.
I knew this was gonna be good-I didn't know it was gonna be GREAT!!! I love his playing so much! WOW..... WOW.....
Always amazed to listen to Mr. Hornsby do his thing, second to none...

OMG... You are soooooo awesome !
Chose the most challenging syncompated piece in the bunch to start off the show ! That's Bruce..
7 people don't know there ass from a hole in the ground about THE BEST MUSIC EVER!
Please Bruce and the range come to South Africa. I love your music so much. Just for the weekend. I wouldn`t mind the ticket prices.
He has to have 16 fingers. Dear god, he just shredded that thing.
Makes me wish I'd followed through on the few piano lessons I had as a kid. I'll never be able to play anything like this now :(
@@davidsmith6859 I had piano lessons as a kid. What I don't have at age 53 is an acoustic piano of my own.
Sixteen fingers and eight thumbs.
Creative genius nuff sed

Very different to the Harbor Lights version and to the others I've heard.

I thought he was going to do the Grateful Dead song...
thanks .. I'm glad I'm not the only one scratching his head here ...
@@strangher11 Isn't that song China Cat Sunflower? He uses a sample from that in Sunflower Cat. This is China Doll.
@@IR-yb1tb hi, honestly I'm still scratching my head here. I must be getting slow but I don't hear anything Grateful in this whatsoever ...

He's pretty good for a white guy.
Pretty famous too
