As a kid, I liked the brown-and-tan Peter Pan. It felt more "real" and distinguished him from Disney's Pan and Nintendo's Link. They'd already changed Tink's outfit from green to brown, so this kept with that, and the Fox cartoon at the time had similar colors. TL,DR: it's all a matter of preference.

There are even NES characters with more color depth. (P.O.W., for example, is proud to flip a flickering middle finger at sensible sprite limitations.)

The SNES has more sprite animation, more parallax scrolling, better color distribution, better sound and has snow and rain. The SNES slaps it's man hood on Sega's forehead in this title.

But the game still has the awful Genesis color palette and missing background details. I still prefer the SNES port.

@pochoun33137 Yes, but he uses emulators and sometimes hacks for the Genesis/Mega Drive. Some of the games he reviewed I still own on the Genesis and there were added objects in some of those games that aren't in the console versions. The Mega/Drive Genesis Emulator actually performs better than the console did but the Nintendo Emulators are junk.
SNES wins clearly. Starting with MUCH better music. But also nicer, more colorful graphics with real transparencies and a better palette. Controls are equally awful on both systems though :D

Graphics and Sound are better on Nintendo for sure. The gameplay is probably the same on both consoles. Nintendo version just looks slightly better unless you prefer the Sega controller.
Just got both versions in the mail off Ebay today, I suck at both of them equally. I noticed the SNES version had more music on it's OST than the Genesis version, very odd as usually games between consoles that are the same will share a soundtrack.
What is clear to me from this comparison is that nor Sega or Imagesoft put as much effort into the Sega Genesis version as was put into the Snes version. So you’re going to tel me that the lights turning out in the intro for the Genesis version couldn’t be done? C’mon! The same with the Rain in the first level. And when it came to multi layer scrolling backgrounds Genesis was the king! So shame on Imagesoft for not putting more effort into the Genesis version. Look at games like F1 World Championship or Batman Returns to see what companies who really cared could do on the Genesis. And I do love both systems but I have often found that some companies were partial to Snes/Nintendo and for that one reason alone put much greater effort into their products for that system. I don’t know if it was a money thing or promises of Nintendo letting them make more games for their system but it was pretty evident after the a Snes came out that this was often the case. Do you remember the 8bit nes days. If you do, you will also remember that Nintendo was also a game hog (if you will) with all their exclusivity contracts that prohibited games from going to competing systems which is why Sega’s Master system and Ataris consoles had such a hard time getting anything really popular until later when it didn’t matter to the consumers anymore.
The Super Nintendo version is superior. It has a better image, more special effects and an orchestra faithful to movie sounds while the mega-drive version resembles a garage band.

This game was originally made for the Snes and later ported for the Genesis and Sega CD by CORE. Looks like a rushed port. They could tried improve color palettes scheme and added color cycles and the weather fx. Still a good game to play with awesome music, but the SNES its the definitive version.
The SNES was just overall more advanced in colors, parallax scrolling backgrounds, and digital sound. The Genesis/Mega Drive just had a better CPU with a higher clock which allowed faster gameplay and a more fluid animation but the limitations of the Genesis/Mega Drive's memory bandwidth made some games even worse in animation.
what is it that lets sense change the hue of the characters to show water immersion 13:55? or fog like in super metroid? that was always a cool effect genesis couldn't really pull off.

SNES wins this one. Ukiyotei did a much better job developing the game than all of the other developers. The SNES music was true to John Williams arrangements even if it was the case for the Sega CD port. Genesis's port of Hook was a poor man's SNES port. All Core Design Limited did was copy and paste the SNES port in terms of design and music. As it seems, Sega tried to capitalize on the success of Nintendo but failed in their execution. That remains true for the 16-bit port of Hook.
A clear win for the SNES on this one--unlike most comparison videos there's not a single thing here the Genesis is doing better--but it's clear the developers didn't really try to do anything but the bare minimum with the Genesis version.

Some games just should have stayed in the SNES. This clearly an SNES game through and through. Slow, easy gameplay but nice artwork and effects like snow. The Mega Drive just doesn’t have enough colours to replicate the art and often is just 1 colour for a vast expanse if background. It looks quite empty. Also the info bar at the top cuts off the action of you notice it has rolled edges and a black background. The GEMS music is thin and weak, again, the soundtrack is clearly composed on an SNES and is quite nice. A pretty poor port for the Mega Drive of a pretty underwhelming game.
Genesis version is complete dog shit. I knew it was bad as a kid but seeing it as an adult... my god, that sound chip in the genesis was trash. The only good music that ever came out of a Genesis game was the stuff that was exclusive to that system because there was no basis of comparison.
While I disagree about the Genny overall, there are times where the Genny version of a game will have the better music. See Y's III as an example. However, in this case? The SNES version is the better game all around.
GEMS was a curse for the Genesis, the music is ok, especially the Cave and boss themes, but the SNES actually has more instrumentation it's OST, something FM Synth just never seems to successfully pull off as well.

On what planet are you seeing the Genesis version being better? Pan is the wrong colour, the water in any scenes doesn't animate (be it in the levels or even on the map), the water is not properly transparent, there's no rain or snow on any levels when there is on the SNES, every single scene uses less colours and stuff that should be clearly a different colour in many scenes is just the same colour as other stuff, the HUD uses far less colours like it's in low colour mode, the flames in the cave level don't animate, and when the light goes out in the same level the whole screen just goes black whereas on the SNES only one layer goes fully dark so you can still get a hint of the shape of the level, the glowing skull heads on the big skull cave boss don't pulsate, the end of level scenes just show the scores on a black background, the Genesis isn't even using its infamous extra pixels to show more of the levels horizontally. I think your fanboy is showing here.

Dude I own both, SNES version actually sounds better, looks better with more color popping, and actually has 7 more songs in it's OST than the Genesis version. You are on some serious crack.

On what planet are you seeing the Genesis version being better?
Pan is the wrong colour, the water in any scenes doesn't animate (be it in the levels or even on the map), the water is not properly transparent, there's no rain or snow on any levels when there is on the SNES, every single scene uses less colours and stuff that should be clearly a different colour in many scenes is just the same colour as other stuff, the HUD uses far less colours like it's in low colour mode, the flames in the cave level don't animate, and when the light goes out in the same level the whole screen just goes black whereas on the SNES only one layer goes fully dark so you can still get a hint of the shape of the level, the glowing skull heads on the big skull cave boss don't pulsate, the end of level scenes just show the scores on a black background, the Genesis isn't even using its infamous extra pixels to show more of the levels horizontally.

I own copies of both, I find the SNES looks, and sounds better overall, where the Genesis version is missing at least 7 songs from the same soundtrack on the SNES version.
