I have been slowly selling my entire car collection and I am now down to my lotus Elise and my Mazda Miata. When the miata engine failed at ACS, I was forced to daily drive my Elise for a month.
I have a 2006 Elise and love it. Always had the British car bug - also have 2 XKEs and a MINI that I'll never sell. Yes, a little rough for a 64 year old guy to get into and out of, but that means nothing once you drive it. The Elise handling is fantastic and for me what sets it apart. I traded cars with a friend for his 991 Turbo S on a local curvy road - the Porsche was much faster as there were long straights between the curves and would gain ground on the Elise each time. But, after we drove these back to back I surprisingly didn't want the Porsche - just felt too sterile and disconnected to the road compared to the Elise. When my friend got out of my Elise, he was grinning ear to ear and joked that now he had to buy one of these to add to his collection. Hard to explain the feel, one just needs to drive one to fully understand. Agree about the attention - people walk right by far more expensive cars to look at mine. And I routinely get spotted then followed a while by police - pulled over once but no ticket thank goodness. A welcome surprise though is how inexpensive it is to drive. I do my own oil changes and maintenance and it is Toyota cheap to run. Seems like my buddies rack up some hefty maintenance bills at the local Porsche, BMW, etc. dealerships but the Elise has really not needed anything except oil changes. And, my Elise has appreciated in price as I could easily sell mine for $5-10k more than I paid just a couple years ago. I doubt there will ever be another new car like this, so my plan is to keep it forever and leave it to my kids. McLaren no longer offers a manual, plus maintenance and depreciation can be brutal so no longer a desire to me there. I was hoping the new Emira would be a throwback to the Elise, but it sounds more like Evora weight and performance. I might still get one someday, but if it were 500 lbs lighter I'd already be on the waiting list. Curious to see the final specs and driving reviews on the first production models. You will always have your Elise experience and maybe someday you will find yourself back. But the Miata is a great daily with a lot of driver enjoyment so a great choice. Good luck !

When I lived in England I had an 04 Elise 111R, loved it. I also owned an NC BBR 200 Miata, which I have to say gave me 90% of the fun that my Elise did. Now back in the states, Im eyeing another Elise but keep thinking back to my NC
Very cool. My 2005s Provenance is #17 of 22 from the factory with the Touring and Sport pak. However, with the Larini exhaust and full Cup aero it is 1 of 1. The Saffron Yellow paint is awesome with the green in it. I added another layer of closed foam to the seats for $20 and is tripable for 1000 miles. Done it twice. I passed on an Orange one as that is a McLaren color.
Well, what a fitting tribute and send off! I love my chrome orange 05 Elise too. Yeah, the seats are not my favorite, but I like the cable throttle. Different years have advantages and detractions, but as you know having now owned two, they are a driving experience like no other and I suspect it's not a small chance that you'll own another! A side note, I tried to enquire about about it via a site at 60K, but got no response..? Admittedly likely not in at 60K.. but the 50K was a great price... All the best and I'll continue to watch!
A few people said they tried to email on the car and I did not reply. I only listed it on auto trader. I am not sure if it somehow made it to other sites or if the auto trader messaging just did not work.
I have a 2005 CO elise and have started to keep my top on in order to reduce the amount people trying to talk to me at red lights. Most of the time they can't see me since the car is so low so works great. Gas stations are another story though.
You're gonna love the NC when you get it back I promise you that. Take the lotus cash and buy the dip March will be a fun time. I'm getting ready to sell my 48k mile mint s2000 depending what Russia and rate hikes do. Enjoy life miatas rule!

Hello, what do you think about LSDs on Lotus Elises, I think Evora 400 and up come with them, many people agree it's not needed, but on more powerful and lightweight ones like 250 Cup it seems intuitive right? Also you've been investing into cars a lot, what do you think about investing in S2000 or more Lotuses? I've heard quite a bit issues about S2 Elise reliabilty, but I think with preventive maintenance they can be solved and the car will be reliable due to it's great engineering. Kinda awkward to ask so many questions, but what do you think about these as GT traveling cars in Europe, or Elise SCs, 220s, or better ones. It was really nice that you were forced to drive this amazing car before selling it.
-I think mine could have benefitted from an LSD especially in tight corners on track. -Right now, I have sold off all of my nicer cars because I think the prices of collectible cars are inflated from the low interest rate environment. -It would be a blast to drive one of these through Europe!
@@ZentRose Yeah, Doug Demuro says prices on collectable cars will stay the same or rise tho, but if world falls into the greater crisis now due to farmer problems in Europe, other types of investments might be more handy. Traveling in Europe is one of my dreams now, it's just a matter of time.

I was totally in the market for one in the 30-40k range after I'd sell my C5Z, but man, they just all went up a hefty amount that's out of my budget. Still considering it in the future. Meh
Smart move overall, I have to say, by sticking to an NC with mods. I would never get looks from police when in one. Just never. I mean, what could that little cute thing do really? lol
Who cares about colour & trim, drive that car. It is a car. We have loads in the UK. They are like plastic shoes / trainers. Stick a modern engine and suspension in it.
