If you have more yarn then you need may I suggest making squares for Warm Up America charity or donating your unwanted yarns to them….or there are Native American reservations needing scarfs, hats, blankets etc….,some prisons have need of yarns for the inmates to make items,scrappy blankets for the homeless, fidget arm bands for seniors etc….

I've gotten pretty good at concealing new yarn and shipped boxes, when hubby says "more yarn ", I just give him a dirty look.
I have a china cabinet from FB Marketplace, and I'll never forget the confused look on their face when they asked what i was going to put in it and i said "Yarn! 😁" Lmao. I definitely have a problem with yarn ~collecting, like, i buy a lot of one-off skeins, but that just means my projects are ultra unique color explosions lol. Youre not buying it from the Gap, bb❤️🔥❤️🔥.

I am probably see-sawing in between Hoarding and 'Well, just a hank or two won't hurt..' I love yarn... I love really good yarn, I mean, and for years, I buy up a few skeins or hanks here and there, never very much, and then I found a few websites where I could get really REALLY good yarn for a really great price., and I went from Knitter, to Yarn Snob! Since then, I've reduced my 'hoard' quite a lot, but the problem is, I seem to purchase just as much as I give away. Only difference now, is that my Yarn collection is absolutely beautiful now, and I have a lot of it earmarked for projects instead of just letting it sit there and look beautiful!

"That's self-harm." LOL. I think people need to stop comparing themselves to each other. I crochet for leisure and for fun. I enjoy learning new skills and stitches. However, I don't have space to store 100 completed blankets or sweaters. One of my favorite things to do is find a pattern that teaches a new skill and convert it to something smaller. I will use a blanket pattern to make a balaclava/hat, or a shawl pattern to make a scrunchie. So.... I have a lot of hats! LOL. I didn't make a new hat because I needed a hat, I made it because I wanted to learn a new skill and didn't want to make a sweater/blanket/other big item. Or, I wanted to practice the skill on something small before deciding to use it on something big. I have a humble yarn stash, and I hope it will be enough because I don't know what is going to happen with these tariffs. I hope it won't affect the fiber supply chain and my access to yarn. The sheep, the spinners, the dyers... I'm sure it is a very tangled web of collaboration, but I want it to remain intact.
I agree we really don't know how tariffs are going to affect the craft community.
I have accumulated my yarn stash over many years. I went through my yarn and donated a good bit of it to a nursing home. Last year I started making scrap blankets to use the yarn that I have left over. I am trying not to buy any more yarn unless I need it to complete a particular project.

I am that person that has a…large collection…of natural and hand dyed fibers. Yes, blanket quantities. And acrylics. But I love it all and am more than pleased with my acquisitions lol 🎉. YARN!

I recently did an inventory, and what I most have is cotton thread from Aunt Lydia's. 24 cakes of Aunt Lydia's crochet thread. I only bought four of those, the other 20 I got from a coworker who's mother in law had recently died and didn't know anyone else who worked with thin thread. The rest of my yarn stash fits in a tote bag.
My budget is tight, so that's what keeps me from buying more than what I need. The only new yarn I bought "recently" because this was in 2023 was one Bernat blanket yarn skein to make a plush for my mother. I haven't bought anything else since then.
Edit: I've only made myself three hats because where I live it's basically 90°F all day everyday, so I can't really use them that much, but the patterns were so pretty 🥹
What is very popular and I've made all the time (it's how I used up all the tiny balls of yarn that were rolling around with no purpose) is purses and little phone bags. Perfect gifts because everyone likes to have a little bag to put stuff in.

My house is organized. I am just a organized horder. I pay my bills first. I love giving my items away. I only keep a couple blankets, 2 sets of hats and scraves for myself. I am retired and having fun. I am blessed.

If I use 2 skeins, that means I need to go buy 5 more! 😂 I have a massive yarn stash and people have alot to say, then they're asking me to make them things. 😏 I give them a hard time at that point and usually say no, but I'll teach them to make it. They love that 😂

The majority of my yarn is turned into gifts for those in need, so it's really my charity stash. The way I see it, all my yarn will end up with those in need eventually, so if I'm a hoarder for that, no harm in it. It's not posing safety hazards. I can pay my bills. It's all good 😊

I’m that person who has a huge stash of wool and natural fibers, in both my office and bedroom. I also know someone in Canada has a whole garage full of wool yarn, and she has her FO’s and wips in her house, but she has a major case of startitis so there are a lot of those.

I’m not quite a hoarder, but with joann possibly getting closed and me wanting to be like…3 projects behind ahead supplywise , I’m definitely running out room to put things. (I’m a Big Twist girly) Fortunately all my visible yarn is currently worked projects.

I have a blanket quantity of KPWool of the Andes Bulky. I didn’t realize how “unblanketity” it would be. The first 10 rows was too scratchy for me. I was a new knitter and it was on sale 😢.

Girl, I have a yarn room. I used to store it in the attic. So I put them in zip front storage bins so I could see what I have and not buy anymore. I have 20 totes full. I also crochet and donate to the hospital, charity, gift, to justify my hoarding. I also have a separate room for my fabric. I donate my baby blankets. so this year I am trying not to buy anymore. So now I went to the dollar tree and there was 1 pound of premiers yarn for $5. Help!!! So now I am trying not to shop online or go to the store. My goal is to clear 3 TOTES, before I can buy ONE Skein. I did that for my clothes closet. In order to buy one item, I must donate 2 items. 😅.

I have a TON of yarn, but most of it I got on clearance. I do plan to go on a near no buy this year to use up as much as I can. There's a local store that takes donations and they sell it to people who need it but can't afford to pay full price, so it's a pay what you can place...so I plan to donate a bit to them. I literally crochet every single day and I give a lot of my makes away...a few years ago I had a customer (I sell Avon) who was in a nursing/rehab home and I made a shawl for her and five others to donate to the center. It used up a lot and went to people who would really appreciate them. My Aunt Lola used to do that before she passed away, so I did it in her name. :) I plan to do that again for a different nursing home. I use acrylic yarn so it's easy to care for and bright, happy colors. If it brightens someone's day, that makes me happy!

I have a massive inventory of yarn, but I do my best to not buy too much yarn. I keep it under control. I just bought 2 mystery bags from Mary maxim (which is a fabulous deal, btw) and wonderful a yarn lot auction recently (16.2 lbs) but I'll try to stick to only using my inventory the rest of the year.

@cozicrochetco please do you won't be sorry! I recommend purchasing 2 mystery bags then you are almost guaranteed to get enough of a given color/thickness to make at least one good throw or blanket. Would you please unbag your mystery bag in a video so we can see what you got??
So I have a decent sized stash (okay it’s like one 5x5 kallax) between me and my mum.
Also man I get you on make yourself another hat.
I learned how to make a bandana (I’m a knitter primarily, only started crochet like 6 months ago) and I made about 6-7 in different colours within the first couple of days.
I learned how to make a bucket hat so I made multiple for multiple people. I love adapting patterns (I make most of my own or adapt them while knitting) so I’ll make one with the original pattern then go wild experimenting from there.
I’ve made bucket hats for 3 people already, and two for myself haha.
I am a very colourful person with my fashion so I need things to match that and being able to make it in the exact colour is amazing.
Currently I’m in the middle of making a granny hex sweater, two crop tops (one only has two rows and the straps to go) one bandana in very thing fingering yarn so it’s taking much longer than expected.
I’ve also got a sweater on my needles at the moment (half way through the sleeves, not much left but since it’s heavy I can only do it on good pain days)
Been making sports team related bucket hats and bandanas.
I was in the middle of a hat and a friends boyfriend thought it was actual merch until he saw the hook still attached. Was very affirming.

I am not a hoader, to me hoarder is someone who does not know the stash, the yardage, where it is etc... A collector is someone who knows their stash, every yardage they have and exactly what they have. I will say I have a whole studio, and there is wrap around bookcases that are filled with yarn, but each yarn is on Ravelry and I keep up with exact yardage. I take it all down every 6 months and dust the shelves. Mine is also a 10 year endeavor, but I do not own a lot of acrylic, I hardly buy acrylic anymore... 90% of mine is hanked until use. I realized years ago I use some acrylic, but for me the joy is handdyed and now I just treat myself a few hanks a year. 🤷🏻♀
21:32 The over consumption comment, for real. Most of us use our scraps to the end. I used my tiny engs to stuff ami, ornaments etc but even the 5-10 grams get knitted into small squares ornament, ami, etc...

I feel ya! I have started being much more mindful about what I buy.
I have a lot of yarn. I think there are at least 30 skeins in my living room and several hundred in the Yarn Vault. Most of it is handdyed yarn.
But I've been collecting yarns for at least 20 years. And I never order one skein, because yarn gets lonely by itself.
But, I haven't bought any this year (January 2025) and that's odd for me.
Will I use all this yarn? I'm 65 so probably not. Luckily my daughter knits and will use it.
As for knitting multiples of a similar pattern, I knit for my grandkids, but suspect I'm actually knitting for every kid at the elementary school. They are always "losing" their scarves, mittens, and hats at school.

lmao guess I'm a yarn hoarder. My acrylics have taken over my room, so I've moved all my wool into the living room lol ...I'm a crochet designer, which is my excuse lol I'm also a new knitter (a bit over a year now) so I have a lot!! of natural fiber in stash, all have planned projects for though.

oh girl, natural yarn stashes is a thing. maybe more knitters than crotcheting but yes... there are quantity discounts for buying larger amounts. And if you also dye yarn usually you have to get it in packs of 5, 10 or 20 hanks undyed yarn not just a single skein.😂😂😂
