I think it's a great solution for kids looking to check out gaming history. A lot of mom and pop video game stores still have a selection of 2600 for about a buck a pop. Kids can also check out 7800 on this. It's a good deal. Just remember kids we didn't play each game for hours at a time either. We played for the top score until we got bored and then popped another game in to attempt that high score. It was all about the high score back then.
I think it's cool if you have a collection of games already but I just don't see myself getting this with no games at all for the system, I'm cool with just the Atari 50 collection
I'm glad Atari didn't change it much. It's not supposed to be a modern console, and we already have the Game Station Pro for a more modern form factor.
Yeah I definitely like that they're totally different. But I think there's just a few changes I personally would have liked but that doesn't mean everyone would agree.
to bad it doesnt have RF out for a CRT .. they went far by making it exact in many ways but forgot the important part.. some love it more on a classic tv
I suspect that the reason there is some left over jank on things is because of the difficulty of implementing solutions which are also backwards compatible. Say the controller did have a restart button as suggested. If the controller is to work on old hardware as well, then there would have to be a solution for the now useless restart button, chances are, overcoming that limitation would have increased the overall cost of the controllers or they would have to drop backwards compatibility with the vcs. I suspect this is also why they use dip switches to select the games. The original VCS used the carts as just ROMs for which the CPU would boot directly into. No firmware, no bios, just raw electronics and circuitry. Again, a software selection probably would have been possible here, but the added cost and difficulty would have made it not worth it. It's a cool little item, but tbh is a waste of space unless you really need to play old Atari games on your tv, it's more like a center piece for old boomers and gen x to show their friends play a couple games then let it stay gathering dust. I remember when I was a teenager my friend's dad got a VCS for like $50 and we played it for a short while, but it only lasted a day or so before they moved back onto the Wii or whatever was out at the time. I'm gonna guess this product is going for that market.
Good point about the reset button on the controller but I still think it'd be worth having even if it had no function on the original console. Yes this is a very niche market indeed. I'll save my further opinions for an upcoming video (GameStation Pro vs 2600+) hope to see you there!
I noticed the paddles don't move every pixel they move in small chunks - it's not jitter there is something off about the emulation. You can turn the paddles really slow and it still one move a pixel at a time.
The cartridge compatibility list is still being updated, but if the console plays all the best Atari 2600 and 7800 games, then I'll say it's worth buying. It really needs to play Pac-Man 8K (a homebrew version of Pac-Man) so people can finally play a good version of Pac-Man on the 2600. Whether this thing plays homebrew games is essential, because a lot of those Atari Age cartridges are 32K (as opposed to the standard 4K of the original Atari games), and so the games look more like next-gen games (i.e. Atari 5200 or Colecovision).
No, I prefer the original games, the way they were enjoyed by many in the late 1970s and 80s. Remakes aren't always the best. Look at the Ghostbusters movie remake. It's terrible. Nothing beats the classics.
Hello Kaptian my name is Isaiah and I have something important to say to you. God loves you and like any father he wants to help you and keep you safe especially from the devil. But I am not just speaking to you about this I am also talking to your fans about this. God loves you all and especially in the times we our living in we are in need of him more than ever. But the choice is ultimately yours have a nice day Shalom Shalom.
You picked a good time to comment this. This has been the worst year of my life so far in 2024. Thank you. I am turning things around but it's going to take a while to get back to a good place.
That is seriously overpriced for what it offers. I can't see a market beyond the serious hardcore vintage collectors when everything can be emulated so much easier by a $30 Chinese knock off console. This feels more than a little cash-grabby to me. I'll certainly be interested in how many units they shift at that price.
I'm keeping my further personal opinions to myself for the time being, saving it for the next video (GameStation Pro vs 2600+). With that being said, thanks for watching and hope to see you there at my next vid!
Great video ! I think it's expensive. You can have all these games with other consoles. I even sold my original console and games for that reason. So, I won't buy it.
Best review I've seen on this console so far. Love this channel!
I love my 2600 plus! The Atari 2600 was the first game system I ever owned in the 1970s. It has a special place in my collection
Glad you enjoy it. Thanks for watching!
That's not a controller. That is a Joystick. :) Pretty neat though. I didn't even know about this one.
Great video, looking forward to getting mine also, great atari addition to my collection !!!! 😀😀😀
Yeah definitely! Hopefully yours ships soon, it took me forever to get mine. Thanks for watching bro!
Happy 2024 Seth (i always wish you a good year even if you never do it 😢) wish you the best this year
Thank you so much! Hope you have the best year too. It's starting a little rocky but hopeful for the future. Things will turn around.
Good idea 20 years too late. This should have been what the flashbacks were.
I agree they easily could have made this 20 years ago. But it's cool to see Atari still making stuff without trying to compete with the big consoles

Yeah exactly. It's definitely not really worth it if you don't already own cartridges
Amazes me 30-40 years ago i dreamed of 3d world games of today and now under 25s want retro old stuff we took for granted back then :/
Crazy how that works lol
I'm glad Atari didn't change it much. It's not supposed to be a modern console, and we already have the Game Station Pro for a more modern form factor.

Price is more steep than a brand new 2600 in 1986

that's a good observation. I need to double check this and consider it for my next video (GameStation Pro vs 2600+)
The 2600+ and the Gamestation have both already received firmware updates, and will have more in the future. Another question- What is your serial #?

I spend more on a night out at dinner with my wife. It's nowhere near as expensive as the 2600 in the 70's.
Yeah exactly. For someone in your situation the Gamestation Pro would be better
