Respect to you for being honest and dignified about your opinion on Batman v. Superman. While I personally hate the film, I can definitely see why you, and others, enjoyed it. Great list, and keep up the good work, man!
I would rather get a genuine opinion, whether or not I agree with it. Unfortunately a lot of people watch reviews just to hear their feelings parroted back at them.
I agree. I usually agree with him on most films, especially when in reference to Band movies (Empire/Full Moon) but strongly disagree with BvsS, which was a dumpster fire.
I like watching your best of lists because you're genuine about what you like and dislike and don't just list what was popular or critically acclaimed. Because of one of your videos I discovered "Turbo Kid" and fell in love with it. Thank you for putting out your opinions. Keep up the great work.
I must say you've led me right again. Because of the bad buzz I would never have bothered with Warcraft. I just watched it and loved it. The only thing I didn't like is the 'ending assuming a sequel' thing, which often seems to be a curse against a sequel more than anything else.
The Ultimate Edition was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better and made more sense than the theatrical version (which I hated, totally hated). Totally agree with you Cecil.
To quote DeNiero:"You..yoooou" Your extensive thoroughness and passion for what you do makes the Nostalgia Critic feel more like a pimple on my ass that i always feel i have to scratch. You however make me , as they said about Howard Stern; see what you're gonna do next. 👌 To you sir. 🍺
I swear I have never found someone who has such similar views as me when it comes to movies, great video, you always surprise me by liking movies I like even when they are generally disliked.
GoodBadFlicks Keep it up man! I need more of your videos to binge watch haha. Watched a bunch of movies based on your recommendations, lol really appreciate it.
Wow. You're the man. Making Batman v Superman #3 on your best list, that's just awesome. I loved the Ultimate Edition, such an amazing film experience. Brilliant stuff and I really hope Justice League delivers. I trust Wonder Woman will be great, but I really want Justice League to work.
many times i don't really agree with you cecil, i'm not familiar with most of your reviewed movies, but i always coming back to your channel (watched almost all of your reviews). You're genuinely funny, and passionate and the way you deliver your lines, it's just great.
Good for you for sticking up for your picks. Its refreshing to have a top 10 that's not just a copy of every other year end list. Video is enjoyable almost a year later and I found a couple movies I had never heard of before. Great job. This is the kind of video that makes me want to recommend your channel.
A few days ago I actually wondered when your top best/worst of 2016 will come out, and here it is. Honest as always and that's why you're one of my favorite youtubers. There are a bunch of movies that I haven't even heard of till now, so I'll be watching them soon. I knew immediately that BvS is on the Top Best list when I saw the dislikes. Every video that praises the movie gets a negative reaction.
First time commenting, but I've been looking forward to this list! I've been bingewatching your channel over the past few weeks and I absolutely enjoy your content. Keep up the great work! :)
Coincidentally, Batman v Superman the Ultimate Cut was #3 on my Top 10 favorite of 2016! I applaud you for having the confidence to defend your thoughts on the movie by talking about how you acknowledge the theatrical cut was a mess and the ultimate cut was what we were supposed to see. Great list btw and I always look forward to what you have on your channel!
hi man! greetings from Germany. I really love your channel, because I was getting really bad movie fatigue and finding your videos and watching some of the more obscure movies you talk about really helped reigniting my love for films thank you!
I totally agree with what you said about the inclusion of religion in Hacksaw Ridge, I personally am a bit adverse to religion and even I didn't think it was forced. I never felt like it was playing the religious aspect of the film, but I didn't know Mel Gibson directed it before I watched it. I did end up disagreeing with a lot of your choices, but I still loved the video, watch them whenever they're uploaded! Thanks for the entertainment and as soon as I pick myself up and get a job you'll have a new patreon subscriber.
Personally I find it strange that western religous aspects in movies still catch as much flack as they do, given that media has cut the legs out from under it and kicks it when its down. Its pretty rare these days when a mainstream movie nonironically involves western religious aspects, but still its reacted to as if some religious missionary sat down in the theater next to them and beat them with a bible.
ye i enjoyed it also but i also enjoyed suicide squad. the movies are still nothing special and def not top 10 material.dc and marvel shit movies like that 10 times a year
I've really been looking forward to this! Thanks man! I especially enjoy your videos because you bring some films to light that I otherwise would never have seen. The Wailing is at the top of my list now of stuff to find and watch (unfortunately I can't seem to find Somnio anywhere or it would be too). I also love the fact that you have the Balls to put BvS in there. It's a movie I've been dumbfounded with regarding all it's hate especially after the release of the ultimate edition. It's one of those movies that I want to watch again every time I think about it. Thanks for all your time and effort. All the best.
No problem, thanks for watching. That's one of the reasons I'm usually so late with these, I like to watch as many films from the year as possible and not just the big mainstream releases. Movies like The Wailing get overlooked because everyone is too busy crowing over that year's Oscar bait. I just got word that Somnio will finally be getting an official release later this year. I'll be plugging the hell out of it because it deserves to be seen.
Excellent man. Thanks for the reply. I agree completely. There is so much more to film than what mainstream cinema brings us. I also believe that a big reason some of these films get overlooked is because they don't have a marketing budget. Especially now days where something doesn't count unless it has an epic amount of Hype around it. These smaller films need to rely on word of mouth to get out there. So keep doing what you do, and lets all take a page from your book so that independents like myself still have a chance when we can't afford to market our films like the big studios do.
I admit (even in the video) that a chunk of my enjoyment of Warcraft was from years of playing the series and seeing it fully realized on the big screen. I loved it but I know it may not work for everyone.
Not really. Nothing against wrestling (I grew up watching the WWW) but I stopped watching years ago. I used to watch Wrestlemania every year but even that ended a while back.
GoodBadFlicks While I found Warcraft disappointing, I did really like the Orcs especially Toby Kebbell's character, the film score, visual effects (for the most part), costume design, production design and the world building. I really wish the director's cut gets released someday.
Hey man, i just recently found your channel and i spent the past two days watching maybe 5 or 6 movies from the "Exploring" series. You have great taste, i now completely trust you when you say we have to watch something. I haven't seen the last 3 of the top 10 best and im now super excited to watch 'em in the next few days. You're doing some great work, man. Keep it up.
Good for you for sticking to your guns and adding BvS. I thought it was much better than the backlash would suggest. Although not on my top ten, it's not the shit fest people say it is. Good job.
As a result of watching this review (I've been a follower for some time), we watched THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE last night. WOW! What an incredible, intense, thought-provoking (we had a long discussion about it this morning), and visceral movie. Thank you SO MUCH, Cecil, for bringing it to our attention. Next up is going to be THE WAILING. We can't wait.
I don't go to theatres, so when I bought Batman vs Superman blu-ray, I didn't understand why people hated the film. Thank you for explaining that it basically wasn't the same movie.
BvS ultimate cut was a good film, I wouldn't have put it in my top 10 personally but it was way better than the majority of the crap people was giving it, good on you for sticking to your guns mate 👍
I love that you brought up the ultimate cut of Dawn of Justice! I enjoyed the theatrical cut, but watching the ultimate cut, I got things as they were meant to be seen and even more Clark Kent. So much respect for you!
great video now I have list of movies I need to watch. Cecil vave you ever considered starting to advertise movies? You make so much better job than most of the trailers nowadays :D
The problem is I most likely wouldn't be able to choose the movies I promote and I don't want to tell people to see something when I personally don't think its good. I actually turned down a gig a while ago because I didn't want to push a movie I thought was no good. Its that darn integrity I have.
Can't say, don't want to burn any bridges. It was a big company and they may have some offers in the future that make a bit more sense for me and my audience.
I recently discovered your channel and I really appreciate your honesty with your opinions. I think I'm gonna go back and check out the ultimate cut of batman v superman because of this video. I really like that you're not just echoing other people's opinions. It's really refreshing seeing a movie from a different perspective through the eyes of someone who legitimately enjoyed it.
this channel is salt and vinegar Pringles chips, the Japanese red light district or crack. things I love but I know are sooooo bad for me!!! seriously, I love this channel. I've binged watch the heck out of it. thank you for putting it together. I'll get the word out to my friends to subscribe and check it out. cheers!!!
Please consider listing the movies in the description box - it gives us, the audience a chance to look them up after watching your reviews in a more orderly way.
Omg Meet The Blacks was such a BAD movie. It definitely seemed to be improve. Because Mike Epps is usually a funny guy, when he actually takes time to write his jokes. It wasn't funny, and the acting was horrible. Cell sucked too. People were telling me that it was bad, but I still needed to see for myself. I should've listened to them. IMO, South Korea gets slept on for the movies they put out. Old Dog (I believe that's the name of it) is a great movie. The remake by Spike Lee was ok, but the original is 100% a must see. The twist at the end definitely wasn't expected. Now Train To Busan was a big shocker for me. I thought it was gonna be just another below average zombie movie, but it surprised the shit out of me. We've gotten so many zombie/virus infection movie the past 15 years, and most of them were shit (28 Days Later is still my #1 favorite). I think it's on Netflix now. I highly suggest people check it out. BTW, thanks for being honest with your opinion of these movies. Too many people not keepin' it real with their opinions nowadays.
Man, I love your channel. You give intelligent reviews and your research is golden. I even watched the videos of the movies I haven't seen cuz you had me rolling so hard!!! I can't wait for more.
I also loved Batman v Superman. The extended version did fix the plotholes and other issues. Sure, Lex Luthor is completely different from his comic book incarnation, but I still liked how he was portrayed.
DecrepitServant Lex feels he has all this knowledge but still feels powerless (powerlessness is a large theme in the film that is also relevant to Bruce Wayne's arc). Lex during his speech at the library fundraiser says "the bitter-sweet pain among men, is having knowledge without power, because that is paradoxical". He blames God for this and also for not intervening when his father used to beat him. Superman to him is a manifestation of God and therefore projects his insecurity and philosophy on to him. He believes that "If god is all good, he cannot be all powerful and if he is all powerful, then he cannot be all good, and neither can you be"- he says this to Superman. Therefore, by having Superman kill Batman to save his mothers life, he is proving to the world that Superman is not "all good" and a "fraud" as Lex says in the movie. On the other hand, if he is killed by Batman (Which is very nearly what happens) then Superman is not all powerful. Lex is thereby disproving the idea of God. Hope this helps. There's a lot of dense meaning in this movie that you won't pick up on if you're not going in as a passive viewer.
That kind of motivation might work in comics, but not on screen. Especially with Eisenberg's over the top performance. A few lines of dialogue don't make up for a ridiculous villain.
i always your reviews enjoy how honest your reviews are, that you don't just love or hate a movie cause everyone else does. i personally would definitely have put Hush in my top ten,but you had another nice well rounded list again.
Good call on BvS Ultimate Edition. I like both MCU and DCEU, but I almost prefer the darker adult take on the comic book genre, plus MCU is starting to feel like more of the same. DCEU needs to quit trying to compare itself to the MCU because at this point they aren't going to catch up overnight.
Loved all of your honorable mentions except War Dogs, as well as most of your top 10. But I vehemently disagree with Hacksaw Ridge (I know I'm actually the weird one in this case), and your top 3. While I liked Deadpool, I definitely couldn't put it in the #1 spot. BvS and Warcraft, though? Very interesting. I like that we can agree on a lot of films, and still waver on a select few. Your videos on The Relic, Event Horizon, The Thing, and In the Mouth of Madness echo my nostalgic feelings towards these films and got me to sub to your channel. Keep up the great work, and nothing but respect for sticking to your guns/gut, sir. Also; you completely won me over again with your take on The Greasy Strangler. I felt like a crazy person when all my usual go-to movie sources and friends were lauding it as some brilliant film, and I couldn't even finish it. I've only ever quit watching 3 films without finishing them: S. Darko, Hacksaw Ridge, and Greasy Strangler.
The last half of Hacksaw ridge was terrible. The battle scenes were over the top and not realistic . Kick grenade out of mid air?! Didn't happen. The real story is more interesting of this BS. The man kicked the grenade on the ground to save his friends. He got hurt. But they had to go over the top and have him boot it out of the air like a ninja master.
I_Stink.. Thank god someone else saw this shit. I wrote my reply to GBF about Hacksaw then scrolled down to see everyone talking about bvs,and was like da fug? I would have walked out after he picked up the torso and blocked bullets on the run, if I wasn't in my living room with family.
Very nice top 10, didn't watch Somnio but will go to the watch list, but, the,,,, BVS.. i mean.... how, i understand someone liking it, but like.... in a top 10? Borderline experimental! Edit : You do need to watch The Handmaiden
I’ve not had the chance to see the ultimate edition of Batman v Superman yet, so you may very well be right. But nothing will ever convince me that Snyder’s version of Luthor is anything other than an abomination worthy of derision. However, I totally respect you, sir.
I also watched The Autopsy of Jane Doe last night because of this video - great movie! I enjoyed the feeling of waiting for something bad to happen, and not knowing what. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
MikeD Wrong, there's almost always subjectivity in opinions. I've seen tons of reasons why Batman v. Superman is bad and I still have a lightly positive opinion of it.
My Top 10 Movies Of 2016: 1 - Captain America: Civil War 2 - Arrival 3 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 4 - Deadpool 5 - 10 Cloverfield Lane 6 - Doctor Strange 7 - The Nice Guys 8 - Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 9 - Sully 10 - Deepwater Horizon
I watched BvS Ultimate Editon on this recommendation. This version is a mystery thriller that turns into an action tragedy. It’s a master work. A couple of continuity oddities but 99% spot on. This opened my eyes. WB do NOT need to try to replicate the MCU. We need a differentiator. The films this was setting up, including the much talked about Evil-Superman version of Justice League (that was originally written, filmed and directed), would have been breathtaking. Multi billion dollars down the drain. For nothing. Also: Justice League getting Joss Whedon in, to doctor a “raise from the dead, a bit evil” film? I hope I’m wrong, but what if he butchered Justice League due to the insult of being copied (superhero rising from the grave : Buffy)? Seems horrifyingly plausible.
I love all your reviews and videos that go along with this channel! Thank you for all of your hard work... I'm really excited to have found this channel and just wanted to express my appreciation for the amazing work you do. Thanks
You can blame the MPAA for the theatrical cut of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was another one of those cases where the studio panicked with the original cut, because it was going to get an R rating (which it did). So they cut a half an hour of content just so that it can get a PG-13.
Oh god the buildup for number 3 i was thinking "come on get on with it, i accept your integrity! What movie is it?!" BVS i almost dropped my phone. respect to sticking to your opinion and great list
I wouldn't call it shitty. But it's not this awe inspiring masterpiece that people are making it out to be. It's just a good looking generic action movie.
Chance Webster it was mad Max getting the feminist treatment, pregnant women escape from evil man, main character is strong disabled woman and finally elderly women swoop in and save the day, tbh, its lucky that the movie didn't catch the same hate as ghost busters,Max was barely a supporting character
It was getting more than just feminist treatment. It was designed solely as feminist propaganda. Miller hired some feminist to act as a consultant on the film.
Better late than ever, good list, but whilst Batman VS Superman doesn't deserve the hate, it wasn't that great either, but mad props to you sticking to your guns, i think only StitchedTogetherPics stuck to his guns with Suicide Squad(which also doesn't deserve the hate). Also Warcraft, not on my list, but it dosen't deserve the hate either. Most of the films you listed like The Wailing, which I love, came out this year in my country so they would more likely be on my 2017 list like Train to Busan or Hacksaw Ridge which I agree was a roller-coaster of emotions, that scene alone with him running into the explosions was just awe inspiring, Mel Gibson hasn't lost a beat. I really want to check out that Jane Doe film, looks eerie. My List 1. Hell or High Water 2. The Nice Guys 3. Nocturnal Animals 4. Arrival 5. The VVitch 6. Midnight Special 7. The Accountant 8. Deadpool 9. 10 Cloverfield Lane 10. Hail, Caesar!
I appreciate when film fans judge more with their feelings. I always do this when ranking my favorites every year. Emotional investment (whichever emotion is intended) should be the number one motivating factor in these lists. Makes the experience more personal.
Ah, number three, that explains the downvotes, haha. I understand loving something most people don't though, I loved both Resident Evil 6, and Silent Hill: Downpour.
Always stick to your opinion when you make a video man, the best videos come out of controversial films. Even though I don't particularly like many of your favorites, I can respect that^^ And I can't understand why you didn't like GOds of Egypt, it was wonderful schlock^^
That's true but I think with the movies that that is because they are based on the new 52 universe where they don't kill. It could be interesting if they made animated movies based on there earlier or even first comic books
YES! JE will NEVER be/look like a real threat no matter how smart he's supposed to be. Bad casting choice as it kills any type of fear/terror he is supposed to embody, at best he can pull off a creepy stalker. The "Martha" bit was horrendous! I KNOW why he stopped, I get that BM realized that at that same moment he was like the killer that killed his mother, it was just pulled off in a very poor way. Doomsday was a letdown. This was the thing that killed SM in the comics? The thing that gave SM a run for his money in A FEW comics(volumes), not just one, to reduce him to the final few minutes of a movie? Weak. And STUPID DIALOGUE followed by RETARDED CHARACTER LOGIC(E.g. SM absolutely HAS to kill DD, not WW or BM?). Just to touch on the things that come to mind.
I respect and agree with a lot of your opinions (though I dislike the term artsy fartsy) My honest opinions on the best and worst 10 of 2016. BEST: 10. High Rise 9. Arrival 8. Don't Breathe 7. The Boy and the Beast 6. Hacksaw Ridge 5. The Nice Guys 4. Nocturnal Animals 3. The Shallows 2. The Neon Demon 1. Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition WORST: 10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 9. Gods of Egypt 8. Passengers 7. The Girl on the Train 6. X-Men: Apocalypse 5. Mechanic Resurrection 4. Nine Lives 3. Norm of the North 2. Collateral Beauty 1. Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party
I respectfully disagree with your list. I loved some of your choices: the Korean movies were very good, yet Warcraft and BVS left me disappointed. Thank you for a great, well researched video.
Another example of why you're my favorite movie reviewer. Yes, I don't always agree with you but I don't need an echo chamber in my life and you get me to watch movie I would never go to see. In fact, I just saw The Green Room the other day. Excellent movie that should have been in your top 10 Ten. Yes, BvS Ultimate Edition is very good but Top 10? ... See, you got me thinking .. LOL ... Great video!
Batman v. Superman is the Godfather of superhero films to me. It's so good, it was my top film of 2016, and I am always appreciative when someone else really gets to enjoy it.
Seen Godfather, I am 30, and of course Godfather is a good film. Just like Batman v. Superman is a good film (and a phenomenal superhero film). But that's okay, you can try to insult someone else just because their opinion is different form yours.
low likes and low replies... why?... because people recognized the trolling... you have to hone your skills... this level 1, not yet green skin, bullshit won't fly
Found your channel tonight and I'm quite enjoying it. I find your choices odd, but you explain yourself well. I find you views of certain films interesting. Warcraft for example I thought was an okay film. Maybe a 6/10. Not bad, but not great either. It's intriguing to me that you hold it in such high regard, and it makes me want to watch it again with some different light shown on it.
Thanks! In the case of Warcraft, I even went into it a bit with how much I love the IP after years of WoW and the RTS. I could see how some folks unfamiliar with the series may not get into it as much but for me personally, I adored it.
10:42 As a Fury Road fan, I whole-heartily agree and support you standing up for your feelings and opinion and not let others pressure you. I don't like Harry Potter, The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, and the fanboys of those films can keep crying, bitching and whining at me for "not getting it" or any other bullshit that deludes them of being in the right or helps them sleep at night and conforms to their circlejerk, I will NOT change my opinion to satisfy them. I revel in their pointless butthurt over me simply not liking what they love. And you know what else? I don't like Batman v Superman including the Extended Cut, but I can perfectly respect you liking it. Why? Because above all, you seem to be a very nice person, Cecil. When I first came across your channel years ago, I was a bit baffled at you giving praise to films that were generally unpopular, but as every year goes by and I see more films including the obscure ones, I'm starting to see more and more where you come from and I'm seeing how wrong it is to conform to the general opinion and being pressued to like/dislike a film because of it. Fuck those people that go "Oh, you don't like ONE movie I love and like ONE movie I hate? You're dead to me, you have no taste and this channel sucks!" and judge a person like that just over a film. There's also the fact that in the end they're hypocrites because they do like a film that is generally disliked and hate a popular one, they probably don't want to admit it and have a superiority complex.
It still had the "Martha" crap and Lex Luthor as an utter moron. Besides being just a plain weird person, what was his plan after Doomsday defeated Superman. Watch the world burn?
Thank you so much for bringing Somnio to my attention. I had never even heard of that movie, but knowing that it's from the same guy who gave us Pandorum (which I absolutely adored), it has now shot up to #1 on my list of movies to see. I deeply hope that it finds distribution. Btw I love your videos. Especially your Exploring series, which coincidentally is the reason I watched Pandorum lol.
Somnio is terrific and it is finally getting a release later this year. I'll be plugging it heavily when it happens because more people need to see it.
If its bad so then why does it have a fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes? And many DC fanboys were hyping BvS that it was it gonna kill the MCU well guess what it didn't. BvS had zero emotion, Superman was dull gave no room to expand the Clark Kent persona, Batman kills indiscriminately which breaks his number one long time rule, and Lex Luthor was blatant ripoff of The Riddler from 1995's Batman Forever. Also Lex never had true motivations for the two to fight and the Martha scene was pitiful and stupid. Batman vs Superman was such a let down that fans started a petition to fire Zack Synder. Warner and DC need to short their shit out.
Typical DC fanboy response, accusing Marvel/Disney paying off critics to trash DC films but that isn't true because Rotten Tomatoes co-owned by Warner Bros. Nice try.
Yes! Warcraft! I loved this movie! They did so well to stay loyal to the source material, granted they took some liberties, but you can't fully adapt a book to a movie. (Or in this case three) The Orcs were easily my favorite, and they did Durotan perfectly. I hope they make another.
Awesome! So happy to know others are out there. Unfortunately, even though it broke records overseas and is the highest grossing video game adaptation ever, it didn't do so great in the US and most likely we won't be getting a sequel.
GoodBadFlicks Which is incredibly sad. Overall the fans of the franchise enjoyed it; the critics who didn't "get it" gave it a bad rap. It almost felt like they were expecting some Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones type movie, but don't realize Blizzard doesn't take themselves as seriously. It makes me sad, thr prospect of not doing another. I would love them to do Lord of the Clans and introduce Thrall reinstating the Horde, or Arthas turning into the Lich King. :/
I respect how you feel about BvS. I personally found it eh, and that opinion could change if I see the Directors cut. We all have things we like that many people dislike, and I'm glad to see someone who doesn't take the easy way out when it comes to their opinions on things like this. Also, I loved The Witch. It was one of my favorite horrors in a while. The atmosphere and tone and music fit so well together and made a legitimately creepy movie that didn't feel gimmicky.
No matter what others think, you have a informed, thought-out opinion on what you like and that's what matters. What you describe about Batman v Superman makes me think of the LotR movies that were already really long, but the directors cuts of them were even better.
Awesome video! As always, you've shown me a couple more movies to add to the list. I was waiting for Green Room to show up on this list somewhere. Talk about a movie that absolutely blew me away.
Some good picks here and many that agreed with my best of 2016. I would have added The Girl with all the Gifts, Victoria and Captain Fantastic. You have also persuaded me to watch BvS for the first time, obviously only in the Ultimate edition. Last year was really good for Korean films. I had both Goksun/The Wailing/The Strangers and Train to Busan in my best of list. Watch out for Tunnel, a Korean film that has just come out here in France. It's a nice mix of 127 Hours and Buried, but it doesn't reach the same heights as either of the previous movies
Thank you for being honest and putting BVS Ultimate Cut at #3. I love the film and understand that most people hate it. But after watching it numerous times, keeping an open mind with every viewing, I still see it as a great superhero film.
Great job sticking with your integrity! I love watching your videos and Batman V Superman was my favorite movie of last year. Its also my favorite comic book movie.
Respect to you for being honest and dignified about your opinion on Batman v. Superman. While I personally hate the film, I can definitely see why you, and others, enjoyed it. Great list, and keep up the good work, man!
Thank you!
didn't like the version I saw in cinema but eventually I'll rewatch the directors cut I guess, since I have it
I would rather get a genuine opinion, whether or not I agree with it. Unfortunately a lot of people watch reviews just to hear their feelings parroted back at them.
Discount Comedy true sadly
I agree. I usually agree with him on most films, especially when in reference to Band movies (Empire/Full Moon) but strongly disagree with BvsS, which was a dumpster fire.
I respect u to no end , Cecil . You're are one of the best movie critics on TH-cam. Loved BvS
Thanks so much!
UNIT #522
I agree wholeheartedly.
I like watching your best of lists because you're genuine about what you like and dislike and don't just list what was popular or critically acclaimed. Because of one of your videos I discovered "Turbo Kid" and fell in love with it. Thank you for putting out your opinions. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! Hell yeah Turbo Kid!
Turbo Kid was awesome.
I fell in love with Turbo Kid as well!! Love that movie, it always give me a sense of nostalgia from the 80s when I watch it. Thanks Cecil!!
I disagree with you all the time, and that's why I watch your videos. Be you, man.
I appreciate that! :)
Hey better late than never. We love these glad you are still doing them!
I agree ^^
I must say you've led me right again. Because of the bad buzz I would never have bothered with Warcraft. I just watched it and loved it. The only thing I didn't like is the 'ending assuming a sequel' thing, which often seems to be a curse against a sequel more than anything else.
The Ultimate Edition was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better and made more sense than the theatrical version (which I hated, totally hated). Totally agree with you Cecil.
:)
I'm absolutely in love with your channel. How the hell you don't get more views is beyond me.
Thanks! I'm slowly getting there.
GoodBadFlicks Keep it up man! I need more of your videos to binge watch haha. Watched a bunch of movies based on your recommendations, lol really appreciate it.
I politely disagree with your list. Good video, though.
Thank you for being polite! I'd gladly take this over bile spitting disagreement lol
GoodBadFlicks Did you catch green room at all? it was my favorite film of 2016 but I can see how it would be just average to others.
See #11. Saw it in the theater twice. Loved it but it just got inched out of the top 10.
LM3ALLEM You're a loser.
LM3ALLEM buh bye 👋
Wow. You're the man. Making Batman v Superman #3 on your best list, that's just awesome. I loved the Ultimate Edition, such an amazing film experience. Brilliant stuff and I really hope Justice League delivers. I trust Wonder Woman will be great, but I really want Justice League to work.
Thanks!
many times i don't really agree with you cecil, i'm not familiar with most of your reviewed movies, but i always coming back to your channel (watched almost all of your reviews). You're genuinely funny, and passionate and the way you deliver your lines, it's just great.
Thank you!
You must check out Elle and The Handmaiden when you get the chance.
holy shit, when the big explanation started i thought he was going to come out and say he loved Ghostbusters. Thank fuck it's just BvS.
Yikes. No way, not here.
Egores House omg that would have been hilarious
Putting "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" on the list, Ballsy. You got mad squabbles, boy!
Ugo Strange opinions
Horrible writing and bad dialogue are not opinions, it's fact. Did you NOT see the movie are do you just prefer not to remember them?
Good for you for sticking up for your picks. Its refreshing to have a top 10 that's not just a copy of every other year end list. Video is enjoyable almost a year later and I found a couple movies I had never heard of before. Great job. This is the kind of video that makes me want to recommend your channel.
Bless you for being the ONLY person I know who felt the same about GREASY STRANGLER!
The Handmaiden?
gursimar singh I need to see that, love fingersmith and I'm a big fan of the director.
gursimar singh Handmaiden is probably my second favorite movie last year, behind Green Room. It's brilliant. I think it's still on Amazon Prime.
Brian Sager yup. It's among my top 3 too.
Whenever I see a worst movie's list, I always ended up thinking "that movie came out last year?".
Yeah ! I was surprised when he said "Deadpool", I thought it came out two years ago.
That's how I felt about Number 9.
Then I found out it came out here in the U.K. about 2 months ago.
You are the most honest reviewer on the internet and we love you for it!
love your videos keep it up!
Thanks!
Thank You for #3!
hey man, just got into your channel, i've been wondering if you have made a video about laserblast from 1978, i loved that movie as a kid :V
Happy to see you mention I Am Not A Serial Killer and Nocturnal Animals! I hope I Am Not A Serial Killer eventually becomes a cult classic someday!
hi man! greetings from Germany.
I really love your channel, because I was getting really bad movie fatigue and finding your videos and watching some of the more obscure movies you talk about really helped reigniting my love for films
thank you!
thanks for being thorough and sincere
You are very welcome :)
Thanks for watching.
man Cecil your channel is really one of the best on youtube, mature good content, hope you will continue to make more of it
Thank you!
Awesome thanks!
I love all your reviews! You have an amazing talent of being able to describe a film without giving too much away. Thanks for your awesome videos!
Thank you! :)
Respect for sticking up for BvS. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Awesome the movie.
+Stef Tep
hehe, yeah
me to I thought it was great
I saw just the cinematic release, and I still never understood all the hate.
ye i enjoyed it also but i also enjoyed suicide squad. the movies are still nothing special and def not top 10 material.dc and marvel shit movies like that 10 times a year
I've really been looking forward to this!
So keep doing what you do, and lets all take a page from your book so that independents like myself still have a chance when we can't afford to market our films like the big studios do.
respect for the Batman v Superman not so sure about Warcraft
I admit (even in the video) that a chunk of my enjoyment of Warcraft was from years of playing the series and seeing it fully realized on the big screen. I loved it but I know it may not work for everyone.
one question are u a WWE fan?
Not really. Nothing against wrestling (I grew up watching the WWW) but I stopped watching years ago. I used to watch Wrestlemania every year but even that ended a while back.
GoodBadFlicks okay thanks
Good job.
:)
Oustanding! Glad you enjoyed it. The Wailing is a head trip, it took me a day or so to process everything. Hope you like that one too.
Just found your channel last week!!! Awesome work and I agree fully with this list!
Thank you! :)
raphaeltrumpetsound kiss ass much?
Bucky Barnes Is kissing ass telling someone you appreciate their work? What would Steve do, Bucky?
GoodBadFlicks Could you try a film called: Evidence(2012). It seemed standard found-footage fare until midway through the second act.
raphaeltrumpetsound lol
I don't go to theatres, so when I bought Batman vs Superman blu-ray, I didn't understand why people hated the film. Thank you for explaining that it basically wasn't the same movie.
Train to Busan was amazing. But what pisses me off was the one dude who kept the door locked. i also loved BVS
Thats Nodildo That one dude in the film was a right dick, granted he got what he deserved.
MrSunnycrocket He was absolutely badass!
You named some interesting flicks I haven't seen on your top 10. I must say, you did well in talking about each movie without spoiling them.
BvS ultimate cut was a good film, I wouldn't have put it in my top 10 personally but it was way better than the majority of the crap people was giving it, good on you for sticking to your guns mate 👍
Thanks!
GoodBadFlicks so you are uncorrutable like superman. maybe they should've captured your mom and force you to fight batman. sorry for bad humor :)
I'll get the word out to my friends to subscribe and check it out. cheers!!!
Thanks so much!
Please consider listing the movies in the description box - it gives us, the audience a chance to look them up after watching your reviews in a more orderly way.
Nice Guys was hands down the best movie of last year.
that WAS a good movie. i was entertained all the way through.
Some One - He's portrayed pretty accurately to the Lex Luthor in Superman: Birthright
What was Lex's motivation in the film?
DecrepitServant
Lex feels he has all this knowledge but still feels powerless (powerlessness is a large theme in the film that is also relevant to Bruce Wayne's arc).
Holy shit. Did you just convince me to give BvS another try/view...?
That kind of motivation might work in comics, but not on screen. Especially with Eisenberg's over the top performance. A few lines of dialogue don't make up for a ridiculous villain.
i always your reviews enjoy how honest your reviews are, that you don't just love or hate a movie cause everyone else does. i personally would definitely have put Hush in my top ten,but you had another nice well rounded list again.
Kudos to you for sticking for BvS. I might get a lot of hate, but I enjoyed BvS more than Civil War. I feel like CW didn't take risk while BvS did.
Train to Busan is genuinally my favourite zombie movie, almost all my favourites i think fall apart in the last third but not Busan.
I don't think I blinked the entire 3rd act.
I legit cried the ending tunnel scene where the girl is singing
Hate BvS but so much respect for being honest with your thoughts on a film and not hiding how you feel about a film.
Very nice top 10, didn't watch Somnio but will go to the watch list, but, the,,,, BVS.. i mean.... how, i understand someone liking it, but like.... in a top 10? Borderline experimental!
Edit : You do need to watch The Handmaiden
Andre Sousa I love BVS
I’ve not had the chance to see the ultimate edition of Batman v Superman yet, so you may very well be right. But nothing will ever convince me that Snyder’s version of Luthor is anything other than an abomination worthy of derision. However, I totally respect you, sir.
BVS was a great movie. Even the theatrical release was good IMO. But the ultimate cut was superb IMO.
I also watched The Autopsy of Jane Doe last night because of this video - great movie! I enjoyed the feeling of waiting for something bad to happen, and not knowing what. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it.
Um... Suicide Squad? That turd was unwatchable
Yeah the absolute worst film of the year. One of the worst things I've ever seen, actually. Seriously not exaggerating. I hate it so much.
Rolando Royster and facts, it's extremely poorly made, funny that huh?
MikeD People can like a poorly made movie and dislike a well made one. Objectivity only goes so far dipshit
Muh dood until those people learn why it's actually bad
MikeD Wrong, there's almost always subjectivity in opinions. I've seen tons of reasons why Batman v. Superman is bad and I still have a lightly positive opinion of it.
My Top 10 Movies Of 2016:
1 - Captain America: Civil War
2 - Arrival
3 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
4 - Deadpool
5 - 10 Cloverfield Lane
6 - Doctor Strange
7 - The Nice Guys
8 - Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
9 - Sully
10 - Deepwater Horizon
The Wailing is on Netflix for those that are curious.
As well as Train to Busan.
It's so good I was quite surprised
So they cut a half an hour of content just so that it can get a PG-13.
by far one of the best movie reviewers on youtube. been subbed for years but keep it up! oh yeah, fuck fury road!
Oh god the buildup for number 3 i was thinking "come on get on with it, i accept your integrity! What movie is it?!"
BVS i almost dropped my phone. respect to sticking to your opinion and great list
I **loved** the autopsy of Jane Doe. It's such a well executed mystery wrapped into a horror film. So worth it!
You should do an exploring mad max fury road
What's to explore? It was a shitty one-tone actoin thing
I wouldn't call it shitty. But it's not this awe inspiring masterpiece that people are making it out to be. It's just a good looking generic action movie.
TH-cam Garbage Shitty? Maybe not the masterpiece people say it is but it wasn't shitty.
Chance Webster
it was mad Max getting the feminist treatment, pregnant women escape from evil man, main character is strong disabled woman and finally elderly women swoop in and save the day, tbh, its lucky that the movie didn't catch the same hate as ghost busters,Max was barely a supporting character
11:35 God Bless You Sir
:)
You filthy degenerate 😁i too liked certain parts of RE VI. It's still leagues better then V. Imho
Always stick to your opinion when you make a video man, the best videos come out of controversial films. Even though I don't particularly like many of your favorites, I can respect that^^
And I can't understand why you didn't like GOds of Egypt, it was wonderful schlock^^
Love the fact that you love bvs dawn of justice
I don't get why people don't like it unless of course they have no idea of batman's earlier comics
That's true but I think with the movies that that is because they are based on the new 52 universe where they don't kill.
It could be interesting if they made animated movies based on there earlier or even first comic books
bigevilworldwide1 that's not why people don't like it. We don't like it because the movie is genuinely bad.
Trippy Hippy please explain what's bad about it because I don't see it at all
Rambo Elliot-Hansen Oh man where to start, well first Jessie Eisenberg is trash in it, Doomsday looks retarted, MARTHA!, and just shitty editing.
BEST:
10. High Rise
9. Arrival
8. Don't Breathe
7. The Boy and the Beast
6. Hacksaw Ridge
5. The Nice Guys
4. Nocturnal Animals
3. The Shallows
2. The Neon Demon
1. Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition
WORST:
10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
9. Gods of Egypt
8. Passengers
7. The Girl on the Train
6. X-Men: Apocalypse
5. Mechanic Resurrection
4. Nine Lives
3. Norm of the North
2. Collateral Beauty
1. Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party
I respectfully disagree with your list. I loved some of your choices: the Korean movies were very good, yet Warcraft and BVS left me disappointed. Thank you for a great, well researched video.
:)
Steve Rudzinski so I guess you never seen godfather. Or are 10 years old. Either way, you do not know why the godfather is a good movie.
Thank you... BvS is one of the most underrated movie in the history of movies. :/
:)
it wasn't even one of the most underrated potatoes in the history of ireland
good bad flicks is literally one of like 5 channels that i still keep track on. fucking love your videos keep em up!
Yes BVS is awesome
Yes! :)
BvS was fucking amazing. I loved it.
The YoPancake Show whatever dude
nai_d I watch it every other day haha
I'm happy that you like it. Imo, it was awful.
There's also the fact that in the end they're hypocrites because they do like a film that is generally disliked and hate a popular one, they probably don't want to admit it and have a superiority complex.
eww dawn of justice. im sorry
besides that, good vid.
Same
It still had the "Martha" crap and Lex Luthor as an utter moron. Besides being just a plain weird person, what was his plan after Doomsday defeated Superman. Watch the world burn?
deadpool.
Awesome! I can't wait.
BvS Ultimate Edition was okay but Captain America 3: Civil War is far superior.
Civil War sucked
Civil war was mediocre, Bvs was just bad. Enjoying the list though
Rotten Tomatoes is full of crap . Marvel movies are for retards
"Batman vs Superman..."
Nope.
AgentMcQueen Yup
***** That's cool I respect that.
I totally agree with you on the whole list, especially on BvS! Thank you for your videos, please keep up the quality content, absolutely love it
Awesome video! As always, you've shown me a couple more movies to add to the list. I was waiting for Green Room to show up on this list somewhere. Talk about a movie that absolutely blew me away.
Thanks!
Love your channel... keep it up man I truly mean it... your exploring series is one of my favorites on TH-cam
Good video as always bud. Always enjoy your insight, even when we do differ.
