I purchased a 2020 3 GT in March 2024 with 300 miles. Rode it home from Plano, Tx. This machine is a beast. So nice that it sits in my man cave. Power isn't the word for this machine. You twist the throttle and time slows down and you're in a different location before you left the last location. Extremely smooth. I enjoy looking at it. Not many people bash the Rocket in these reviews. I'm 67 with 34 bikes over the past 54 years including the Boss Hoss 502. The Triumph is a class all by itself. Go ride one when you can. You'll get a big grin.
I own a 2019 GW Tour DCT and just purchased a 2022 Rocket R3 in red back in August. I really enjoy having 2 different styles of riding and agree with most of your review. I added TPMS, heated grips, pillion backrest, louder horn, and adjustable/removable shield. It's truly a blast to ride, and then appreciate the comfort of my GW DCT even more. Thanks for the review!
I own GT. I don't need TPMS (I see no reason for it,), heated grips were built in. removed pillion backrest, added louder horn, removed windshield 😉 Comfort is ok from my point of view, it is motorcycle, not cruising ship. There are only few things, what I dislike. 1, small tank (or big fuel consumption, so and so, short mileage); 2, no space for rain suit for one day trips; 3, cruise control is not working over 160 km/h. I would have rather tft with classic 2-gauge look.
I purchased a 2022 GT last August. I have owned 35 - 40 new motorcycles in the last 55 years including 6 GW's including gen 6, 2 BMW's K1600's, 2 RT 1200/1250, a Kawasaki H2SX and many others. This has got to be one of the neatest of the entire bunch. I put a Corbin fairing with radio on it along with the Triumph hard cloth bags and now I have a relatively decent touring bike. This thing is far better than I was expecting, Its very nimble for its weight, very very easy to ride. Solid as a rock down the highway and we know about the power. I've put some 3300 miles on it and it's a rush and a pleasure to ride everytime. As said in the review, the transmission is velvet smooth and the motor vibration is almost nothing. Super brakes...This bike is a class act and I would high recommend it.
lawnranger, have you taken it on a long tour (multiple days)? I'm vasilating btwn this and a GW (understand the different styles) I am triumph guy (tigers and scramblers @ 6'4" 290lbe)
I have a 2023 Rocket 3 GT that is my daily commuter bike. I find that she does get a bit warm on the right side by the exhaust, but nothing compared to my 08 Kawasaki Mean Streak so it wasn't a big issue for me. Gas mileage isn't great for stop and go traffic, but what do you expect for a 2.5L engine? My one major gripe is the exhaust note. I wish she sounded as mean as her actually is. Conclusion: I absolutely LOVE my Rocket. She has some small issues, but what bike doesn't? Best bike I've ever owned!
I've had every Goldwing made in my riding life, 1000-1800. Liked or loved all of them and still have an '06 and an '18DCT. For perspective, the Yamaha Venture Royale was just as good or better than the 1000-1200 GWs. I say that to say this...most touring riders of any longevity have a secret desire for a Hot Rod bike to compliment their main squeezes. This Triumph would be my 'sidebike' without any questions!!!! Love it!!!!
I own a 2006 R3 Classic which has 2.3 liters, 142 HP and 148 ft. lbs. torque. I also owned a 2008 R3 Touring model with the exact same power train as the other R3 models but it came with hard bags, windshield , floorboards, etc. for touring. Many Rocket owners with the previous generation bikes like mine were bummed by the new 2.5 liter models because they were so radically different in style, virtually no rear fender, not rigged for long distance touring and not substantially quicker. We are still hopeful Triumph will come to realize the profit potential in transforming this current model into a serious touring model like they use to have with all the stuff that serious touring riders want. I also think it would be great for Honda and BMW to have more competition. Thanks for another excellent review. Keep 'em coming. 🙂
Well done on approaching the beast with a modicum of respect! I know I treated it that way for the first few rides. Once you get used to it, it stays in sport mode and you just use your wrist to change the speed of the earth's rotation. 🙂But I do suggest sampling one with a custom tune and a quickshifter. You can get an extra 20 or so horse, full 100% open throttle in all gears (they limit that from the factory), lightning fast shifts and then it makes the dragstrip a blur and you need to hang on for dear life! You also might find the GT more accommodating for a taller bloke, but with a reduced lean angle in the twisties. You can of course adjust the pedals up and down a bit, again with clearance suffering in the lowest setting. Finally, for the record heat can be an issue on hot days, but I get more from the exhaust side than the left side. And when stationary, the seat is low enough that you can have your legs down without having to keep them right up close to the engine. Once underway the heat dissipates pretty quickly.
I own a 2020 Rocket 3 GT i had ride all sort of motorcycles in the last 40 years sport cruiser trail but nothing compare to the experience you have on the road with the Rocket. The torque is always there. Almost every day when i ride it people give me thumbs up from cars around me or at a cafe people talk to me about the bike it so fun its like owning a ferrari or a lamborgini its a event because you dont see the Rocket often on the road its rare, I installed a quickshifter on it so from red light to red light its a dragster so much power reaaly this bike is a blast to have. I have experience some heat coming off my right leg but nothing to harsch to say that its uncomfortable for me anyway.
Hi Cruisman from South Africa 🇿🇦. I'm glad to you creating some diversity on your channel. For me personally, I guess if money is no object, having a bike like this in your garage gives you some bragging rights - owing the biggest displacement bike in the world. Watching these reviews actually makes one realize just how good the wing is. It really is a do it all bike... Thanks again for the review and safe riding.
I love my Rocket 3R, so much fun to ride and it does love the twisties. The suspension can be dialled in to suit the road conditions. I had mine dialled in to a more sporty setting and it was so unstable on the rubbish roads in central Queensland. Never noticed any heat issues, then again my other main ride was a Harley Davidson CVO Street Glide and like all other Harley's I've owned they run hot. The bluetooth on the Rocket 3R works pretty well, haven't tried the GoPro of turn by turn directions yet. Streaming music to your helmet works ok and the TPMS is handy. The quickshifter is another great addition to the bike. Great honest review, they do get along when you open that throttle wide open.
A great review- thanks for taking the time. Have had my rocket r3 for 12 months now, live brisbane australia *queensland sunshine state” Regularly see + 32Celsius days in summer, i find most of the heat comes from the RHS exhaust, Don’t notice excessive heat from the LHS.
Okay yeah but why doesn’t Triumph build a new three-wheeled motorcycle from the ground up and put this engine in it. They’d get a lot of inquiries about that one. This is my opinion.
I put 13,000 miles on my 2021 Rocket 3 GT last year. I like to run 400 to 600 miles a day usually but have ran 800 miles. With all the electronic aids you are not going to get in trouble very easy on this bike. I am usually getting around 38 mpg. I did put a big windshield on that is 24 inches wide so I am not getting beat up by the wind on long runs. One issue seems to be that if the bike sets for a couple of months the dealer has to bleed the ABS on the rear brake. Triumph hasn't got that figured out on the Rocket 3. I also have a Yamaha Raider and a HD Heritage Classic Springer that I regularly run long distances. This bike works just fine for long distances for me. Also, I don't think you can squeeze 4.8 gallons in the gas tank. This becomes an issue when running in the western US where it can be a long ways between gas stations. It is a great bike!
I had a 2007 Rocket III Tour. 140 hp and 140 ftlb torque. I did not keep it long. The heat was nasty in July in Ohio. But the other issue was my tendency to run it up to the 140 mph governed max speed A LOT. At 25 mph in 5th gear you could roll it on and bust the chops of any HD and most crotch rockets right up to 140. I was 62 years old then. My wife was glad to see me sell it. I switched over to a Triumph 1300 SE sport tourer.
Heh heh Love your exclamation I tested one last year with TSA enabled speed shifter, in sport mode, shifting at 4500 I wore a grin on my face for days…
Great video. I have a 20 Rocket R and a 22 GW DCT - both enjoyable but different. Smooth and refined v's 'edgy'. I have done a little cruising on the R3 and it is comfortable and reasonably economical @ 43 mpg (US). Have a Madstad aftermarket screen fitted - makes a big difference. For Bonneville test i recommend the Thruxton RS - enjoy and thanks for your Videos.
I agree - a great review! While I can imagine how much fun this bike would be to ride, I can't help but wonder about its usefulness. I guess I put more of a premium on utility as opposed to flash and style.
I recently took a 2023 Rocket 3R out, put it in Sport mode and wrung its neck on back roads near the mtns... It was fun and the presence is amazing, and it handles better than I expected... But I wasn't that impressed by the power and speed. Based on the numbers, I was expecting more... Its not as fast as a lot of the bikes I have owned, or currently own. I liked it, but if I was gonna spend that kind of money on a muscle cruiser, it would be a Diavel. The regular one, not the X. The Diavel makes a little less power but it's lighter, and handles better in the tight twisty stuff...
@@R3RLEE Not rubbish. Dude, I just did another 100 mile test ride on it, in sport mode, and got on it... I roll raced it from 40mph to 125mph against a Speed Twin 1200 and the Speed Twin stayed in front. I have video of it all on my channel. It's a quick bike, but it' not that fast. Maybe if I flashed the ECU and got rid of all the restrictions they put in there... But in stock form, my other bikes just run away from it.
@@lawnranger3432 Yup. Not a dealer, but the guy that runs the North American demo fleet... He got 26 new bikes dropped off at his shop, that he needed to PDI and then put a bunch of miles on them so he could do the first service and then ship them out to dealers and promotional events, movie sets, etc... So he asked if I could bring some friends up to spend a couple days breaking in new bikes. 🙂
@@SquireSCA There are youtube video's of Rocket vs Diavel. I am sure do to the lighter weight the Ducati handles better and with the lighter weight, its faster. Seems like in a roll on, the Triumph takes the Diavel which only make sense.
Cruiseman, do you think you would be more comfortable on this bike or a suzuki hayabusa when it comes to comfort and long distance touring? Also, does your back hurt or knees hurt after riding this motorcycle? I thought about getting the bmw s1000rr(stated to be the most comfortable supersports bike in the world) or getting the hayabusa...
Cruiseman... please... if you want to really put this experience you had with this Triumph into perspective with an alternative that we all would like to hear more about, please go and ride the new Ducati Diavel. I had the older generation Diavel, and I bought that over the Yamaha V-Max and others that were in this class back in 2012. I now own a Honda 2022 Goldwing (I once had the 2010 Goldwing and a couple BMW 1600GTLs in the past) -- but now I love the newest Goldwing, and I use this when my wife rides with me. I relate to a lot of your videos about the Honda Goldwing. I sold my 2012 Diavel a couple years ago, but even though your review of this Triumph was fair and well done, I would still want to have you an experience with the new Diavel and help me get back to another "alter" ride to the Goldwing. Great videos and thank you for the time that you put into sharing with us.
I have a 2023 Rocket 3-R, and NO body parts have to be removed for the oil filter, It's only the coolant tank that has to be lifted slightly to access the filter.
Rocket comes from the factory with the shock wound right up tight, back it off to click 9 of 18, transforms it. A quick shifter is an option whereby Cruiseman can short shift faster in sport mode 😂
I wish they'd put the motor in more of a sport touring bike. I'd like to see a proper fairing and a tail section that doesn't end before the rear axle.
Just purchase a new 2022 Red Rocket R and may have overlooked your details of your post. But would you please tell me what brand riding jacket you had on? Thanks Bob Griffith
If money and storage room were no object, I would maybe have one of these. Do I need one?… heck no! But for fun factor alone, I kinda would like to have one in my motorcycle arsenal. Thanks for the review. And I really like your new CG neon logo.
There is the Honda F6C Valkyrie as a Goldwing model and power cruiser which fits in this class. Maybe you should find a used one and review one. I was always interested but didn't come across one. Nice review .. thx
I have rode one of these 4 or 5 times, the reason I did not buy is the tank range, 200 to tank yes please, 150 tank range I will and did buy 2 other bikes and both have 200 mile range
Great review. I like your bike reviews. With you get ahold of a bmw 1250 gs or a 1250 rt. I have a gs adventure. I thinks it’s a great bike. Would like your opinion.
An impressive bike, and I honestly through it came standard with headed grips... oh well. Agreed if Triumph built a touring motorcycle with that engine they would do well.
Thanks. And I agree, the Rocket is a good looking bike. I lean towards a more sporty bike (exactly why I love the latest Goldwing version) I like your "other brand" reviews! Thank you. Next up...Ducati Supersport 😁
You really should of backed the damping off to a complete minimum front and rear, it takes about 60 seconds. It would of given you a good idea of how compliant the suspension could be (or not).
Why are so many guys saying that this would be their "second" bike. It would be my first choice out of the garage. I'm she that luggage and windshields are available.
They call the BMW R series "TRACTORS", I think they should call the Rocket a "TRUCK" with performance to go... thanks Cruiseman for the humorous review!! Do you want it back again??
Nice review, you should try a Ducati Xdiavel ;) same ballpark Beating heart of XDiavel Nera, the Testastretta DVT 1262 delivers a maximum power output of 160 hp at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.0 kgm at 5,000 rpm*.
The 3 cylinder engine sounds strange. The dealer near me wouldn't let me take it for a test ride because it's considered a "performance bike" with the 165 hp. I.m 6'-2" and wondering how much battling against the wind and helmet buffering I'd get. I think the Rocket 3 GT has a slight taller windshield and capable of small saddlebags.
Because it is a performance bike. The gt has a screen the r doesn't. Bags fit both bikes. Fantastic bike...as for buffering its a naked bike but fine up to 80 mph. You can get a taller screen for both bikes...
Interesting review for this machine because it is such a beast. Seems Triumph should build a tourer with larger fuel tank. Well you has the same thought about that.
Chris… until you swing a leg over a modern liter bike, you will never know acceleration. 430 pound machine with 200+ BHP… Nice that my 2020 Wing has such good performance for such a big bike!
Nice review, Cruiseman. you are as tall as I am. I was waiting for a dealer by me to carry one, when they started to show up. I took the GT for a ride. Such a fun bike to ride. It puts a smile on your face. The design of it is a work of art. The attention to detail, like no other bike. Triumph really nailed it great with this one. I could not get over the power in ANY gear. However, I could not find this machine to serve my daily rides/communing at all. Also, I was not super comfortable. Moreover, to add all the accessories for a longer commute machine, the total price would have been as much as our wings. Triumph really needs to build a tour bike like the Wing.
I had the 2020 GT had to spend a decent amount on a new seat for the wife, that bread board on the back is useless as tits on a bull. Ended up selling it after 12 months and bought a Honda gold wing F6b.
At 14.35 or so, "triumph kills it, out of this world, piece of art, can't think of anything Triumph could do to improve it's styling, just amazing..." Yet, you give it a 4.8 out of 5? Performance, you say nothing that would detract from your perfect numerous score, yet you give a 4.9. -.2 and -.1? You say there's nothing you can think of that Triumph could do to improve, well, what can triumph do to get your 5 rating?
Call me “woke” but it’s utterly discriminatory that Triumph requires the submission of testicular size and weight prior to selling anyone this motorcycle.
Yep your woke!! Its people's choice to buy this unique bike and many have. I have one and believe me it's nothing to do with the size of balls. Its to do with the bike is fantastic to look at and to ride.
You Yanks can't really moan about the MPG of the thing when you use to build the Dodge Challenger with the 426 Hemi that only managed around 6-8 MPG and the Challenger wasn't a big car.I will concede the 426 is one of my favourite US engines even though it's not particularly safistcated bu European standards
In my last comment about MPG of the Dodge Challenger I forgot to mention that it's a gorgeous looking car although I'm a Brit when America had the ability to style a car they were excellent at it.Look at the cars of the 50s no other nation got close.

I have a GL1800 Goldwing and 2 Honda ST1300’s. I’ll take them over that Triumph. But it is an impressive machine for sure.
Rocket comes from the factory with the shock wound right up tight, back it off to click 9 of 18, transforms it. A quick shifter is an option whereby Cruiseman can short shift faster in sport mode 😂
You want a MONSTER, then, yeah. This is a monster. I like his suggestion of turning it into an Aspencade killer. A tour bike? Why not!
You made me laugh when you put it in Sport mode... TY!! The bike is a BEAST!
Good review, They did make a touring "ish" model when the Rocket 3 was first launched.
I do believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To each their own. Performance 4.9? Where did the .1 went? :).
Good bike's review as usual.
The Rocket will eat up a Goldwing in the curves and has excellent touring capabilities. By any metric it is a superior scoot.
Open that bike up. I did. It's fast
I wish they'd put the motor in more of a sport touring bike. I'd like to see a proper fairing and a tail section that doesn't end before the rear axle.
One thing that I would change is the dual headlights. I hope there is a company out there making a single 8" headlight.
Triumph should have turned that engine into an aero engine.
It would be a sweet, smooth unit.
R
It needs more fuel capacity doesn't it?
Bad roads in USA, video is very good, 3 cyl.engine is good for torque, regards from Serbia.
Great review 👏
Great review as always! ✌
Just purchase a new 2022 Red Rocket R and may have overlooked your details of your post. But would you please tell me what brand riding jacket you had on? Thanks Bob Griffith
It is an Olympia, unfortunately, they are out of business.

Would like would like to see a review on the Bonneville Speedmaster
If money and storage room were no object, I would maybe have one of these. Do I need one?… heck no! But for fun factor alone, I kinda would like to have one in my motorcycle arsenal.
Thanks for the review. And I really like your new CG neon logo.
Do I need one?… hell yeah.😂😂😂😂
My 2009 Rockett had 200 mile range.
There is the Honda F6C Valkyrie as a Goldwing model and power cruiser which fits in this class. Maybe you should find a used one and review one. I was always interested but didn't come across one. Nice review .. thx
Awesome bike!
You should reassess your value segment. For what you are getting compared to others, there is a surprise. 4 out of 5? What's your "5" machine?
If you can, try the Bonneville T120 as a compliment bike to the GW in the garage.
Anxious to test and review one of those.
Your not opening it up ,
I have rode one of these 4 or 5 times, the reason I did not buy is the tank range, 200 to tank yes please, 150 tank range I will and did buy 2 other bikes and both have 200 mile range
The GT comes with forward controls, heated grips, lower seat height, pulled back bars, and passenger backrest. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
Toy lol? You can tour with the touring bikes and play with the sports bikes. I think its the best all around street bike.
Just think... there is a supercharger available for it! 😀
Thanks. And I agree, the Rocket is a good looking bike. I lean towards a more sporty bike (exactly why I love the latest Goldwing version)
I like your "other brand" reviews!
Thank you.
Next up...Ducati Supersport 😁
You really should of backed the damping off to a complete minimum front and rear, it takes about 60 seconds. It would of given you a good idea of how compliant the suspension could be (or not).
you should "of" paid attention in grade school grammar
@@keemez look again and read correctly.
uhhhhhh. visit a grammar book, chief.
Nice review! Could you test HD Fatboy?
I have reached out to HD. We shall see.
Nice review, you should try a Ducati Xdiavel ;) same ballpark
Beating heart of XDiavel Nera, the Testastretta DVT 1262 delivers a maximum power output of 160 hp at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.0 kgm at 5,000 rpm*.
Is there a quick-shifter? No mention of that.
My bad. That is offered as an option.
Triumph should also make a 1500cc Rocket, and a 900cc Bobber.
I find the heat coming off of the motor isnt any more than any other scoot with a big motor. Much less heat than my Harley Ultra.
Great bike I got 2 bikes big bear chopper witch is 2026 cc & Honda vtr 1000 cc so rocket 3 gt will be next purchase add to collection
I think mileage would have to be better to be a tourer or at least a much bigger tank.
Any thing better than your GW?
Still love the Goldwing. For me.
@@R3RLEE
Ty
The R has no windshield and the GT has a tiny “fly” windshield. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
Interesting review for this machine because it is such a beast. Seems Triumph should build a tourer with larger fuel tank. Well you has the same thought about that.
84000 rpm..!!...😝...freakin amazing new motor...😎
If doom guy had a motorbike.
Chris… until you swing a leg over a modern liter bike, you will never know acceleration. 430 pound machine with 200+ BHP… Nice that my 2020 Wing has such good performance for such a big bike!
Edward,...top gear roll-on from 60 mph to 110, the rocket beats my H2 SXSE, after that bye bye Triumph.
Sweet Bike Review. But saddle bags on this? Come on. Love the look of this bike. It has My interest to get one of the two models. ;-D
In my opinion The triumph rocket 3 is not just another motorcycle at the Dealership
IF THIS MOTORCYCLE WAS A HORSE it would be a WAR HORSE 🇬🇧♥️🇬🇧
Please, make a review for bmw r1250rt
I'm trying
40 Keli not pounds less .good blog 😊
bike in the united States is soo cheap, wish can get that kind of price here in Malaysia. in Malaysia around 40k usd for this bike basic no add on
95 degree day? That's when you go on the boat, not a motorcycle. I can't stand riding mid day in bright sun, and massive heat.
Kinda reminds me of a Yamaha V-Max.
I had the 2020 GT had to spend a decent amount on a new seat for the wife, that bread board on the back is useless as tits on a bull.
Ended up selling it after 12 months and bought a Honda gold wing F6b.
Your videos is really amazing. I really like it. Can i talk with you???
❤😂👌🏾🤛🏾😎
I dont understand why it's 6 gear..4 gear is more an enough..
The triumph rocket 3 is not for BEGINNERS
It's a special motorcycle for a skilled man
David ...It is surprisingly easy to ride
At 14.35 or so, "triumph kills it, out of this world, piece of art, can't think of anything Triumph could do to improve it's styling, just amazing..."
Yet, you give it a 4.8 out of 5?
Performance, you say nothing that would detract from your perfect numerous score, yet you give a 4.9.
-.2 and -.1? You say there's nothing you can think of that Triumph could do to improve, well, what can triumph do to get your 5 rating?
90 lbs lighter than prior model
Some of us are Christians ✝️
Sounds like it’s running on two cylinders ! Doesn’t sound right ! I have 2022 rocket 10:18
Interesting
Nice video but it's a rocket 3 R not rocket R 3 🤣 sorry had to say it
Did I screw up and say R 3? Sorry.
@@cruisemansgarage only a couple times in the beginning. But like I said great video as always 👍
@@23Elit3 Damn!
Triumph Rocket 3 R, Not 3R
Not r3
Definitely running on two cylinders, not 3
Hmmm
Your brain is running on 2-cylinders, not 3.
Call me “woke” but it’s utterly discriminatory that Triumph requires the submission of testicular size and weight prior to selling anyone this motorcycle.
Only small sizes to overcompensate? 😂
I can relate. I own a Yamaha Vmax in which the performance is similar. I have to say you have to have some gonads to push it to its limits.
Was this your first time filling out a girth certificate?
