    Seen a lot more blues in the Western Sound this season than I have in the past 5-6 years. Some of em were huge. ❤❤❤

    that last blue almost came aboard! the shot of the school chasing your lure right to the surface was awesome. blues are one of the strongest fish and have amazing stamina and heart. they just never give up. you rarely need to revive them for release.

    It's been afew years since I've had a chance to hit blues in any numbers and size in Jersey.
    I miss the days when they were around like that all summer long.
    They're not anyone's favorite fish to eat, but they're fun to catch, and quite a workout.
    That new rod looks great.
    Got the wheels turning in my head, but my wife would kill me in my sleep if I bought another one now. And she'd spot that one in a heartbeat.

    So many people consider Blues the biggest nuisance fish around, but man are they fun to catch. I don't eat any of them no matter what the size or what the recipe (so please don't reply with the, "you haven't tried them my way 😊" , but they can make for a fun afternoon

    I'd say you tested the rod.
    When I used to catch bluefish in the winter in Florida they were warriors. We were happy to battle the bigger ones. But schools of little ones made trolling for mackerel close to the beach really tough. I remember seeing them piling up on each other trying to get the bait, it was wild. I never caught big ones trolling, only from seawalls and shore based. When nothing else was hungry they would give you a fight.
    I just got an Ugly Stik Inshore Carbon rod to try. It should be a lot more sensitive than my regular Ugly Stiks. I've started figuring out the flounder around the Chesapeake and those heavy rods suck for jigging. So hopefully the graphite one will be better, it's got a medium action and fast tip.

    Take it to Florida and break it in on some big Jack Crevalle or tarpon. I know you mostly do inshore or close to shore fishing while you're in Florida. However, some triple tail or even blackfin would really stretch it's legs.

      It sucks but hopefully it will help the fishery. I wish they shut down fluke fishing for a bit. Nothing allowed to be kept. The fluke bite gets worse every year. Shut it down for a year or two and let the fishery bounce back. Lots of other species that are good eats.

    • @stephenduda947
      @stephenduda947 ปีที่แล้ว

      NJ has weird flounder regs. You can keep one larger than 18" and two between 17-18" per person. I had three trips where I caught 5 or more fish bigger than 18" without getting the slots. I also had a few trips where I caught numerous in the slot range without one over 18". I have mixed feelings about the regs but I feel like I had an overall good year.

    How do you feel about the ridiculous size and bag limits on seabass ,do you think they're hurting other game fish populations ?

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm fine with the bag and size limits. I had no trouble getting a limit of 17.5-20-inch fish yesterday afternoon on plain bucktails with no bait or Gulp. I have no proof, but it's my opinion that the demise of the Long Island lobster and winter flounder fisheries are a direct result of the explosion of the seabass population.
