Fun fact: Telephone Line was made before answering machines. There was no voice mail to leave a message. You just had to keep calling till you got thru...
The first telephone answering machines were invented in the 1930s. Then, "A commercial answering machine, the Tel-Magnet, offered in the United States in 1949, played outgoing messages and recorded incoming messages on a magnetic wire. It was priced at $200 but was not a commercial success." And, "Phonetel began selling answering machines in the US in 1960. Another early model known as the Code-a-Phone was introduced in 1966." However, widespread consumer use did not begin until the early 1980s. [Wikipedia]
Whether it's on your channel or just on your own , check out Jeff Lynne ELO, Live from Wembley Stadium, not to long ago, 70 years old, and 70,000 in crowd, you'll get a great picture of how true music , stands the test of time. Hope to see it on your reaction channel. ❤
Jeff Lynne (who comes from my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a great musician and producer. E.L.O. had loads of great songs and one of my favourites is 'All Over The World'. They sound just as good (if not better) live than they do on the studio versions. They were still touring just before the pandemic and Jeff was approx. 70+. He is on his last tour now in 2024. He was also a member of the super group 'Travelling Wilburys' with George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Two of their songs to listen to are 'End of the Line' and 'Handle With Care'.
I wonder how many younger folks don't get the sounds that proceed the vocals. Not many have heard a dial tone or button tones from manually punching in the numbers these days. When this song came out, we all had experienced the frustration of repeated dialing to reach soneone.
One of my favorites from Jeff Lynne and E.L.O. A Master at his craft of composing incredible Classic Rock hits like this. It was the last time you did them I suggested this tune. Thanks again, Great choice.
Back in the days when I was travelling on the road , no phones around except payphones , no answer brought much stress , constantly searched for payphones
ELO was formed in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Showdown", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Rockaria!", "Do Ya", "Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Roll Over Beethoven", "Shine A Little Love", "Last Train To London", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight" etc.
The bass player, Kelly Groucutt, who also shared lead vocals with Lynne as well as harmonies not to mention doing the operatic parts on "Rockaria" was a big part of their success...
Great reaction to an amazing song. ELO are just amazing- absolute banger fire 🔥. I echo other peoples comments- do check out the Live at Wembley Stadium- so atmospheric, amazing set up and superb delivery and performance.
ELO picked up where The Beatles left off to keep the doo-wop going into the seventies. Adele repurposed the opening of this maybe, and Bruno Mars the bridge parts too perhaps.
These sounds at the very beginning are actually what it sounded like making a call in 1976... It’s actually what first hooked me on this song. You didn’t hear this realism on the radio back then (yes, I’m that old)... It’s a masterpiece IMHO

Absolute fact. Mindblowing how fast things change.

Yep - old enough to remember that time... first song I heard by ELO in the 70's...
@@christianmarler2253 His point was that nobody had them when this song came out in '76.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Got it. Good thing you are out there to defend him. My last line said that. Also, some people did have them.
This is just one of the great groups that made growing up in the 70's a true gift with such awesome music.
❤
Remember playing the heck out of this 8 track.
: )...Right! It was a great album and it was cool you could just let the 8 track play over and over...Pioneer Supertuner with Jensen Triaxials ...

I just saw Jeff Lynn's ELO in Portland on Friday. If you get a chance, go! It was great and the last chance. Over and out...
Great Reaction as Always! Don't know why the Weird Sounds at the Very beginning. But this is overall a great Tune 🎶!

I like their music, but in my humble opinion ELO did some of their best music for the movie Xanadu. I strongly suggest you check it out.
Check out ELO " "Ticket to the Moon".Such Talent.
You want to do "Shangri La"
Daron Ferry
Is your background real or just a poster ? It'd be quite the awesome jam sessions having that kind of sound equipment to play with.
I never get what you are always laughing at. You're freaking weird!
It’s called joy, I can tell you might not experience it much but you should definitely try it. I hope you have a fantastic day.
