I think it may be important for viewers to know to save their files properly or else if they follow along on excel their information won't save. ALWAYS save the file as Macro-ENABLED which is an *.xlsm file. I lost all my work I going through these the first time.

I just came across this channel, unlike many others, you are blessed with this great descriptive and simplicity skill. You make complex things simple. That's the real meaning of a "teacher", complex himself but makes complex-simple for others to learn. How I wish I had your personal contact, I could make my projects a great success. God bless!!!

All these videos are just so absolutely perfect-impeccable/immaculate professionalism, patience, clear and confident presentation!

Thank you! I just discovered your channel and seen a few videos on VBA, but I'll follow you for a long time, because your explanation is really clear and simple. See you soon!
wow, this is great video because of your teaching techniques. Other videos I've watched I got into 3rd videos and still the guy was talking. You're a great teacher.
The video was amazing and so easy to follow up. The only problem I had was with copying with ALT key and I made it from the form control directly. Beside this everything was very easy to understand. Thank you!

Amazing. The way you are explaining is inspirational. Thank you for the easy way of explaining it. A lot of tutorials even fail to let you know what "Sub" means. Keep up the good work, we are waiting more lessons.
Great going Sir..!! Pl continue with more advanced concepts citing more such practical examples. That will definitely allow us the privilege of becoming an expert in VBA without attending any classroom training session. Thanks
Thanks for the great tutorials. Very straight forward and easy to understand. I wonder if you could help me with something. I'm an English teacher and I've created a Concentration game using Powerpoint 2013. I assigned animation and triggers, and got things to work nicely in that two identical matching squares would disappear simultaneously once a match was found. However, the match basically had to be found the second time you clicked on a particular square regardless of whether a match was found or not because the triggers were set this way. But I then realized that it might take someone numerous attempts, not just two, before actually finding a match and that I probably needed the program so code to link or correlate this squares or fields. Is this something I can do with Powerpoint or is Excel the tool to use. Also, how do I actually go about this. I'd appreciate your help. Thank you!
Anton Pavey Hi Anton - Thank you for the comment, and happy to hear that the videos are helping. Animation is not a strong point of Excel, but I am interested to see if we could build the game. Could you send me your PPT file? I will see how well I can replicate it. You can get in touch via the contact page of the website - tigerspreadsheetsolutions.co.uk/contact-us/

Hi Cris!Thank you for making all your videos so easy to understand and straight-forward. While I was learning the above tutorial I received an error. ie for the button 'Lower' to be there, I had put in a macro hence it did not take the numeric cell value change. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!
Hi Roopika - Thanks. It is difficult to tell from your description. Try working through the tutorial again. or send your file to me via the website contact page. Good luck!

Hey, great video. I'm having trouble assigning the macro..the list of available macros doesn't show up. All i get is an empty dialogue box. Ref to 4:56 in your video. I'm not getting the higher, lower, say hello options. I'm facing the same issue in the first video you uploaded
Maha - thank you. I sounds like macros are not enabled, or you have saved the file as .xlsx (which can delete the macros). Start again. - Ensure macros are enabled (Google how) - When you save the file, save to .xlsm (macro-enabled workbook) format I hope this helps and good luck! Chris
+Mark Bouwman Hi Mark, I am not an expert on other languages I am afraid. In VBA, however, a routine is a set of coded instructions that Excel executes when asked by the user. Routines are usually triggered by the user clicking a button in the spreadsheet, but can be triggered in other ways too. Hope this helps and good luck.
HI Tiger, I was able to do the part 1 video easily; on this video i am getting an error message " Complie error: Invalid use of property"...can you please let me know resolutions on the same; Also i would like to know about the online training is available or not....thank you, Rajeev N
+Rajeev Narayanappa Hi Rajeev, it sounds like a problem with the cell reference, if you send me your file I can take a look. The email address is on the contact page of the website - just Google Tiger Spreadsheet Solutions. And yes, we do provide bespoke online training, separate to the TH-cam channel content.
+Rajeev Narayanappa HI Tiger, I re-worked on the all the four videos, it was really awesome feeling. Thank you very much for your explanation; it was really amazing experience!! I would like to join online course Basic to Advance. Could you please let me the details to rajeevnbangalore@gmail.com.
Hi new to all this again completely forgot everything I’m having trouble saving the first tutorial “hello world” when I click. Save as on excel spreadsheet I’m getting a message something to do without format any help ?
Can someone explain to me in short and simple words the main difference between a sub and function? I started watching these VBA videos for excel since i needed a program to turn a decimal degree angle into a dms angle without using any more than 2 cells(1 for decimal and the other for dms), and that was written in VBA as a function.. Now im wondering what is a sub 🤔.
Josip - good question and you have inspired a future video. Both functions and subs live in the VBA editor. The main difference is that they are triggered in different ways: - A SUB (sub-routine) is *usually* triggered by clicking a button in the spreadsheet (as in this series) - A FUNCTION is not clearly 'triggered'; rather, it calculates in the background like any other Excel formula So, a function, broadly speaking, works like a formula, whereas a sub is triggered by the user. Both work through executing lines of code, the process of triggering the execution is the critical difference in my view. This means functions are 'slicker' (they work without the effort of triggering them), but more difficult to debug, since it is more difficult to understand when the calculate and what they do. That said, it is possible to 'step through' a function by inserting a breakpoint in the code. Subs usually require explicit declaration of variables, and lines of code to allocate values to those variables. Functions also use variables but they are declared in the very first line of the function. Again, I find that this makes functions more difficult to understand and debug. I favour the transparency of subs over functions, and only use functions sparingly in my work. Others, of course, will have different views. My recommendation is to focus on subs until you can appreciate the (marginal) benefits that functions can provide. I hope this helps and good luck!
@@TigerSpreadsheetSolutions Thank you for answer and video and sharing your knowledge with the rest of the internet generally.. *- A SUB (sub-routine) is usually triggered by clicking a button in the spreadsheet (as in this series) - A FUNCTION is not clearly 'triggered'; rather, it calculates in the background like any other Excel formula* This answered my question and I will try to make the same function work but as a sub :) You have my sub(scription) and recommendations :D
Great Video. The only problem that I have is that whenever i press my higher or lower button, the updated value becomes 1 or -1 respectively without actually adding or subtracting 1 from the initial value.
Hi Chris, thanks a mil. Just got started at 74, pretty young to start but am enjoying. Got stuck though - I cannot get the Assign Macro to work.At right clk on the button there is no command there. how can I activate that. i have 10 non pro. thanks. wb
Hi Barry - have you clicked 'enable editing'? Try saving the file to your desktop and opening it from there. Great to hear you've got started with coding and good luck with it!
Hi there, yes, that is possible, using a conditional statement. Check out our conditional statements for beginners series here: th-cam.com/video/RrayWNAR7CM/w-d-xo.html

Maha - thank you. I sounds like macros are not enabled, or you have saved the file as .xlsx (which can delete the macros).
Start again.
- Ensure macros are enabled (Google how)
- When you save the file, save to .xlsm (macro-enabled workbook) format
I hope this helps and good luck!
Chris
@@TigerSpreadsheetSolutions I'll try that. Thank you Chris
Good luck!
is a routine the equivalent of a function or a method in a language like c#?
+Tiger Spreadsheet Solutions HI Tiger, unable to reply to the e-mail i.e.: to noreply@youtube.com, can you please provide me the e-mail id.
Hi Rajeev - happy to hear that the videos helped. I have sent you an email.
I had the same problem and realized it was because I was using commas (,,,,) instead of periods (....) between "Range ("e3")" and "Value"
You are a great teacher.
Many thanks Varinia and good luck with your coding :-)
Hi new to all this again completely forgot everything I’m having trouble saving the first tutorial “hello world” when I click. Save as on excel spreadsheet I’m getting a message something to do without format any help ?
Steven - make sure you save as a macro-enabled file (.xlsm)
Can someone explain to me in short and simple words the main difference between a sub and function? I started watching these VBA videos for excel since i needed a program to turn a decimal degree angle into a dms angle without using any more than 2 cells(1 for decimal and the other for dms), and that was written in VBA as a function.. Now im wondering what is a sub 🤔.
Josip - good question and you have inspired a future video.
Both functions and subs live in the VBA editor.
The main difference is that they are triggered in different ways:
- A SUB (sub-routine) is *usually* triggered by clicking a button in the spreadsheet (as in this series)
- A FUNCTION is not clearly 'triggered'; rather, it calculates in the background like any other Excel formula
So, a function, broadly speaking, works like a formula, whereas a sub is triggered by the user.

This answered my question and I will try to make the same function work but as a sub :) You have my sub(scription) and recommendations :D
@@cartman444444 Cheers Josip! Appreciate the support.
Thank You Very much Dear Friend, this Video is very helpful for beginners like me ofcourse :-) tons of thanks
Great Video. The only problem that I have is that whenever i press my higher or lower button, the updated value becomes 1 or -1 respectively without actually adding or subtracting 1 from the initial value.
Never-mind, I got it sorted
Good to hear you got it sorted
Could you tell me please how you get the initial value (3) & why you write it in E instead of D or any other column?
Hi Chris, thanks a mil. Just got started at 74, pretty young to start but am enjoying. Got stuck though - I cannot get the Assign Macro to work.At right clk on the button there is no command there. how can I activate that. i have 10 non pro. thanks. wb
Hi Barry - have you clicked 'enable editing'? Try saving the file to your desktop and opening it from there. Great to hear you've got started with coding and good luck with it!
hi thanx for great help. and may I know how will it go in case of alphabets
You're welcome - I am not sure what you mean by alphabets, however?
@@TigerSpreadsheetSolutions i mean letters.
Hi, sir, would like to know is there any way to set maximum and minimum value upon clicking the button?
Hi there, yes, that is possible, using a conditional statement.
