@e-Rekt I'm an atheist. The problem with religious charities is that a large portion of the money that goes toward those charities are spent on spreading the religious beliefs of the people running the charity instead of actually being of practical assistance to those in need. It's best to support charities like the Red Cross that simply provide assistance without also trying to convert people. That also goes for charities run by atheists.

@e-Rekt and why is that. Maybe to make people more dependent on the church. Wouldn't it be better if the church didn't need to. Besides have you seen what you get at some of these 'food banks'. It's not really pascal's wager though as in this case there is overwhelming scientific evidence, so it's more assume the evidence is right because the alternative is the end of human civilisation. Pascals wager is flawed because you can't just make yourself believe in god to avoid hell, you can however eat less meat, recycle and use clean energy even if you don't believe in climate change.

We need to retire the whole idea of "Believing" in climate change. The question is whether someone acknowledges climate change, not whether they believe in it or not. No one asks the question as to if you believe in the air or the Sun or water, those are just things you would acknowledge and if you don't then there's something wrong with you, and you need therapy or simply a better education.

He jumps off his boat and starts treading water. He starts to pray. "God.....please help me". A little while later, a boat came by and tried to help the man. The man responded, "I don't need your help, God will help me". A little while later a helicopter came and tried to help him. The man responded, "I don't need your help, God will help me". A little while later another boat came by, and the same thing happened. A little later, the man drown. When he got to heaven, he asked God, "WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP ME.....I PRAYED AND ASKED YOU FOR HELP". God replied, "I sent you 3 different rescuer's....what else do you want from me." The moral of the story is, even God knows religious people are too much.

Of course we can do something about the climate, we just choose not to because it doesnt make certain corporations enough money. Before the ideal solution would've been to reduce emissions so the climate can correct itself naturally but that ship sailed probably around 2010. We will likely now have to look for a geoengineering solution that will probably come from China as they have the most experience in that area.

And, don't forget about the 1000s of billions of other galaxies each with 100s of billions of solar systems amounting to 10s of gazillions of planets. But, I forget, you believe it was all about our teensy speck of cosmic dust we call Earth, the sole purpose of the universe. Give me a break. All gods are made up by tribes of men who, in the absence of knowledge about their world, made up a convenient answer and then told others they spoke for that god. That you believe in the ancient Hebrew tribe's god today in the face of all we now know, well, it is hilarious. Fact is that this planet is where we evolved and seems to be the only place we know we can live as long as we don't destroy our own environmental habitat.

God will take care of it defense is actually not a christian one.
"Let us make human being in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible of EVERY LIVING THING ON THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH"
    Genesis 1 ( if i remember correctly ).
Nature is god creation ( according to them ), so why are they ok to let it be destroyed that much ?
Are evangelists really christians or are they just another cult/sect like the mormons ?

As a Christian, people like that "Evangelical" guy get me upset. God said do what you what you know you gotta do first. Don't destroy things and expect God to clean up your mess. Don't abuse the planet God gave us. God is prob shaking his head by people's foolishness, especially those claiming to be his kids. They need to stop lying and being greedy, cuz clearly they're not having faith in God to work it out if they're depending on funds from corporations anyways. That rant took longer than expected. I'm a Christian and lo e science; it reinforces how amazing God is and how He created everything.

Pi-sha! College kids in the 60's and 70's, those of us who said fuck college... the streets, farms.... yada yada...have known about climate change ... we grew up bearing witness. Hey....ya eighteen? Welcome to adulthood....Learn your rights, exercise them! The problems are only escalating. In other words....tag, your it!

A lot of climate pundits thought the earth was slipping into another ice age. That was back in the late 70s and early 80s.
John Coleman was the chief meteorologist at the ABC affiliate in Chicago. He went on to co-found The Weather Channel.
I remember him saying that at some point in the 21st Century, only Hawaii and Key West would see temperatures above freezing year round. Florida and California would no longer be able to grow citrus crops.

'It's a money making industry...' Not even sure what that phrase means. Isn't part of the definition of 'industry' is that it's supposed to make money?
But of course if it's an industry that competes with the industry you like then making money is 'greedy!'
The green industry is making money, yes. And at the same time they abide by science and foresight to save humanity from driving itself into a self-destructive corner.
The problem with the fossil fuel industry is not that it makes money. Good for them. The problem is that they make short-sighted profits at the expense of long term sustainability.
Luckily by now the banking industry, insurance industry, etc. are also starting to get on board with undeniable science because they also realized that unless we do something now climate change will ruin them as well!

Also No One Believes in science.
A "belief" it's something you acknowledge to be true. That doesn't mean it is true oh, that doesn't mean that you have evidence or even a reason to think that it is true. But if you continue to think that thought without any reason, that thought becomes a belief.
Scientific evidence has absolutely nothing to do with belief. Sure, you have the right to "believe" science is wrong. The whole point of "beliefs" are baseless claims after all. That doesn't make you correct, that doesn't make you "woke", nor does it make you intelligent.
The Democrats acknowledge science, it has nothing to do with belief.

Here in the third world where I live some whiners go "yeah but many are dying because they can't afford the rising prices of energy". Dude! did you ever count how many people are living in this finite planet? Less population can only help tackle global warming even more. But some people are just too egocentric to think of the whole for a second, it's always them, them, them.

So this is basically Pascal's wager but pertaining to climate change. Thing that is more frustrating is there are changes that we can make and keep our big cars and that is changing our energy economy. If we used hydrogen instead of oil, we would curve a lot of the problems, and we wouldn't really need to change much else. The byproduct of using hydrogen is water vapor. So no carbon if we take the carbon out of hydrocarbons.

actually jim's argument is the same argument for religions. those who have some education in this topic know im talking about pascal's wager. its not a valid argument.
id suggest, instead of using the live/die paradigm, use the fact that doing environmentally responsible things will simply make our environment more beautiful and comfortable to live in. if the climate change affirmers are wrong, we still end up making our world a nicer place.
