- If you ever wanted to hang a door yourself, but don't exactly know how to do it or what it entails then you will enjoy this one.
,Good idea on how to add hinges to an existing steel door frame. Maybe you want to hang the door from the other side or make it open the other way? Or enjoy watching me do all the work. This took me the best part of a day to do. It might take two days if you are not prepared or unskilled.

That is really a big improvement.
So clever to cut the slots with the angle grinder and slotting the one side of the hinge in.
Pop rivet also makes a neat finish.
To think that if we were not a colony of the British, we would not have hinges as we know them.
Most of Europe the frame has a place where the door just slots in.

What adjustments did you have to do at the end of the video to remove “springiness”? I have the same problem. I’m not sure if hinges are reassessed too deeply (they are flush with the door) or I need to set hinges deeper width wise so door would be further from door stop , or both.
I inserted a small block of hardwood of about a CM thick using prestick to keep it there between the two wings of the hinge (one at a time) as close as possible to the hinge pin. Then gently push the door closed. This will bend and stretch the hinge ever so slightly and will remove the springiness.
@@thequixotryworkshop2424 Thanks a lot. It is what I ended up doing as well. I couldn’t find a hinge designed for metal frame like you had and bought normal hinge to use “door side” leaf only as my original hinge was bent beyond repair. Only after watching your video I have realised though standard hinge looks the same, it doesn’t have the same gap, it doesn’t have gap at all, in fact, and needed to be open somehow.
Where do you get the hinges from?
Can't remember exactly, but it had to be at a local hardware store.I bought them a couple of years ago and they were in a drawer here. Did not buy them online. Depending on where you stay, try your local hardware. Ask for door hinges. Even if they have holes on both wings, they will still work.
