Never mind the diabolical technique maestro Katsaris possesses, the musicality, the coherence and intelligence brought to this piece is remarkable. Its beyond amazing.

I love the clear prashing in some areas. I also like that he sometimes chose to bring out completely different melodic phrases than 90% of the other performers.

The ossia cadenza...you hear things you've maybe never heard from others...as his left hand is magic throughout. Bolet would (to a lesser extent) pointed out these beautifully counterpoints as well. I've had the pleasure of this performance several times...I always hear something new. One constant...the total command by this magnificent artist.

Complimenti.

Yes, remarkable technique, and he finds some unusual and usually pleasing ways of showing us alternative melodic expression. I could say more, 24:39, just a few seconds, but so emotional in his rhythmic manner, the left hand countermelody portrait like no one else... and the following "waltz" at the end of the 2nd movement is breathtaking, as is the last 3 pages of the last movement. This is Katsaris in a nutshell.

    • @IMAWriterRobJ

What year was this? Katsaris appears to be a very young man. In the last movement, it's a little too fast. You can see and hear that his fingers run away, and he's not always together with the orchestra. It doesn't have to be that fast, thrilling though it is.
The sound is a little bit fuzzy, a little too much bass. A great performance nonetheless. This piece is a real knucklebreaker. Rachmaninoff said, "I wrote it for elephants!"

Very brilliant but maybe a little too much ! this kind of interpretation "Grand concerto d'exécution transcendante" where virtuosity is too highlighted and is almost an end in itself has a really aggressive and exhausting side (for the listener as well as for the pianist!). The choice of the "ossia" cadenza is significant : to stun the listener with a deluge of notes. Furthermore everything here seems to be played forte or fortissimo which adds to the sensation of sound aggression.

Every popular Rach rendition in youtube mentions the choice of Ossia cadenza. I am not complaining, it is close to the best thing ever. :D

Muh Wu - Vladimir Horowitz, Byron Janis, Emil Gilels, Alexis Weissenberg, Martha Argerich, Yuja Wang, ...and Rachmaninov himself play the shorter cadanza, and concerning virtuosic level or popularity of their performances they are at the top. In fact the shorter cadanza combines better with the concerto especially when played with brisk tempi. Otherwise the ossia cadenza sounds too bombastic.

Request denied. But you could alert the censors and try to goad them into action.
Now what do you mean by 'religion'? The Bible does not speak well of religion per se. It is mostly in reference to false religion that this condemnation appears:
(Romans 1:22) 'Professing to be wise, they became fools.'
Besides, there are many secular ideologies and pursuits (even Art itself) which function as 'religions' in certain social contexts. Would you like to discuss this further? I didn't think so.
It's pretty amusing, you know, when someone who is out to suppress contrary views feigns politeness. If you're ever in a position to impose your will, I wonder whether you would remain so polite.

Fast, but not loud and powerful enough.

Obviously the technical quality of this recording is mediocre and doesn't do Katsaris justice.

i love his technique but always reminds me of coco the clown and he plays with too much showmanship

Today's young pianists are wooden performers, it seems to be all about the technical ability rather than the sound.
