  • Laos.. The MOST BOMBED country in history is still littered with millions of UXO's, and along the Ho Chi Minh trail you will find relics and ruins left untouched since the last bombs were dropped in 1973. The Red Princes Bridge is one these.. a bombed and broken bridge to nowhere. It wasn't until I had climbed off it that I was warned what the surrounding landscape around these military targets were like..

I went about 1.4 km into the cave in May 2024. When we got there on a weekday afternoon the gate was locked. We finally found some telephone numbers in the building by the parking lot. We had to drive back some distance before we could connect. The caretaker lives very close to the cave and he was quickly there and unlocked the gate and came with us. It was worth the effort. The caretaker said that if we went another 400 meters we would come to a section were we would need to take a boat for about 40 meters. We would get to a waterfall. As you can see from this video you need to do some climbing. The route is improved but not perfect. Some parts can be slippery. Wear good walking shoes. The way is lit by electric lights but it's not unusual for power to go off so you need to have flashlights. It looks like there is some interesting hiking in the area to other caves. The caretaker is a very nice young man. We found that we had some friends in common.

I am sure that you missed the second man on the fording motorcycles say 'My friend' to you. Lao people are special people. He did not know that you were not from the people that had bombed that bridge. If you were from those people, then that was in the past. We are lucky to be able to share the lives of some very good people. ❤Lao.
My wife had heard about the caves. It's good to know that there are other places to take visitors to in Salavan besides Tad Lo.

Thank you 🎉for a great video and history lesson. It is truly horrible to understand the true consequences of America"s "secret war." As an American, I am ashamed of the actions my country inflicted upon the people of Lao.😢

Hi Guys Another great video to add to your everexpanding collection. One of the things Todd said which I would like to remind people of. In 2011 in Vang Vieng, a total of 27 people went through the local morg due to accidents on the river, of which most were young travellers. Things are differant now as the government purged much of the infrastructure that enabled people to be stupid. So just remeber to keep your head on a swivel, as you are respocible for your safty not the local government.

This video is extraordinarily creative work. This is art!
Being of a certain age I’ve been moved to tears. The music certainly helped in that regard.

Howdy Todd,,that cave was glorious! Beautiful and dramatic. Mina is an amazing little girl,,I'd take her anywhere. Shes an adventurer,,even when shes sleepy, she was fighting it,,to see what was going by. Black and white shots fit this story exquisitely,,couldn't be better. Brother,,I thought I was the crazy one,,,that bridge climbing was a bit insane. I think a turtlehead spotted me underwear up,,,just a little. You see the people cruising through there,,and it all comes down to being used to what you have to deal with,,knowing where to step. Thank you Todd. Love you Mina,,you all take care of each other,,Ttyl,,,Marlon

Ok, thank God it didn't turn into an Oops moment. It just shows how a naive tourist could end up with prosthetic legs or, in a wooden box. The thing that sickens me most is it's happening again today in Ukraine. It seems like part of the human race is either incapable of learning, or, just doesn't give a 5hit.
Thanks for sharing this amazing series of videos Todd, despite it's difficulties Laos is still a fantastic country and beautiful, gentle people.

Todd and Neenee (and Mina, too) Such a beautiful remote and somewhat untouched landscape. Quite the ride on Ho Chi Minh Trail (Route 22) and that Prince's Bridge, yikes! That song so deep and filled with real emotion so yup, tears were flowin'..What the US did to Laos is disgusting, and the Vietnamese were real bad, too, not much better for the people of Lao there 50+ years ago, either! It's amazing they welcome people from USA there at all, but time does heal and hopefully it's never repeated by any country against another, just sinful all politics are. On a brighter note, great video and b&w pics as always, and I've enjoyed the big wet series to date, so Thank You from New Hampshire, USA.

Tomorrow's video we come across an abandoned Russian missile that was making its way down the Ho Chi Minh Trail, then the war stopped.. and that's where they left it. Still there today. 1000 troops just walked away from it.. Many such things as this still scattered throughout Laos. Just left and forgotten.

regarding danger, on the central california coast is a miles long stretch of pristine beach. it is illegal to even step foot on it. the area was claimed by nearby fort ord military base as a great place to practice fighting. there’s unknown quantities of IXO all over that beach. such a waste.

Excellent video. It is too bad the North Vietnamese used Laos as an unwanted partner in the Vietnam War. JFK wanted to keep Laos neutral , while trying to solve the Vietnam Civil War at the time. JFK was killed and his replacement LBJ escalated the war. The rest is history and a huge mistake by the US.
